Description
James A. Reed Funeral Home was started around 1880 by a furniture and cabinet maker, William H. Bowman, his home is still part of the funeral home today (house on the right). Mr. Bowman ran the funeral home until his death, when his grandson Marlin S. Reed took over. It was in 1968 when the corner house was purchased and the two houses connected. In 1969, ownership of the funeral home transferred to Marlin's son, James "Jack" Reed after Marlin's death in that same year. An expanded chapel area was added to the rear of the building in 1991, adding seating for 45, increasing the total seating to 100. This remains the current layout of our funeral home today. In 2009 Jack's son, William, entered into the business full time. In January 2011 after 50 plus years of service, Jack has finally retired, somewhat. William has now become the 4th generation of family to own and operate the funeral home. We feel it is our responsibility to serve each family with compassion, dignity, and respect throughout the grieving process. We believe that each family is a unique opportunity to serve; and that each funeral should be a reflection of that family. Through this belief, we strive to give each family the funeral service that is best suited to their needs.
