Mr. Landess was a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois and was the first licensed embalmer in the area. He held licenses in Indiana, Tennessee, Missouri, and Arkansas. In 1934, E. W. Landess and his son Robert B. Landess formed a partnership and purchased the old Medley home in Campbell. This was converted into a modern funeral establishment. In 1938, Robert B. Landess married Christina Martin, a school teacher from Holcomb, Missouri. She became interested in the business and attended and graduated from the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science in 1939, with distinguished honors. She became a licensed embalmer and funeral director in Missouri and Arkansas. In 1945, this marriage ended in divorce, and Christine Landess continued with the firm. Richard became a member of the firm when the new Landess Funeral Home, Inc. of Malden, Missouri was opened for business on January 1, 1961. E. W. Landess died in 1960. In 1968, Richard and Christine Landess Beall purchased the Robert Landess interest in the business. Robert Landess died in 1969. Richard Beall died in 1993.
