Established in 1865, H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments is a family-owned and operated funeral home serving the families of Hampton Roads with respect and dignity. As one of the oldest local businesses in the area and one of the oldest family-owned funeral homes in the country, our dedication and commitment to those we serve have always been paramount. We are certified by the Virginia Board of Health Professions and the Cremation Association of North America (CANA).
Our story began at the end of the Civil War with Sterling T. Oliver, a furniture maker prior to the war, providing caskets and service to those in need. The tradition of excellence and community service established by our founders has now spanned over 150 years and five generations. Each generation learning from their predecessors what it means to truly be a part of a community. Supporting local businesses, providing for local charities, establishing and nourishing relationships with those around you are the tenants of our founders.
