Dearest Betty,
I am sorry for your loss, for our loss, of a great man. I read in awe the many accomplishments and experiences Dick had. He would always take pause in giving advice. Seriously thinking the answer through before he would deliver his words of wisdom. I appreciated how he always made me feel like I was family. He will be sorely missed by all!
With Love,
Melanie

I served with Dick during the time he was on the County Board. His most notable trait, and one that's sadly lacking in much of contemporary government, was his ability to "park" partisanship in the interest of solving problems. He took serious political risks for the good of the community and the County on a number of occasions. I will miss his genial, good-hearted nature. He touched many people in a positive way.
