Hymel T. 'Bill' Varnado Sr.

Hymel "Bill" T. Varnado, Sr., 68, lost his battle to cancer on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Touro Hospital. He leaves to mourn his wife of 28 years Gertie Varnado, mother Carrie Varnado, sister Patricia, brothers: Bobby Varnado John Varnado and Nathaniel Franklin, 5 sons: Eugene Varnado, Hymel Varnado, Jr., Lavar Varnado, Demarlo Brown and Rodrick Randall, 5 daughters: Elicia Varnado, Jennifer Varnado Brown, Tabitha King, Felicia Landry and Toni Pickett, 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a host of sisters and brothers in law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends. In his early years, Mr. Varnado was baptized at Mount Carmel Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir. He attended Lawless Junior High School and later used his talented skills of drywall/sheetrock to become a master Drywall Technician. After returning from Chicago, Illinois, Hymel started Varnado's Care Facility where he was a dedicated, loving, and compassionate man to the residents of his facility. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Leontine "Mammie" Franklin, Obie Varnado, Jr., and Larry Varnado, Sr. (brothers), Larry Royal (son), John Foster Franklin (uncle), Mazel Franklin and Jeanette Freeman (aunts), Hazel Porter (godmother), Aaron "A.J." Porter (godfather/cousin) and Donna Joiner Lagarde (sister-in-law). Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, July 22, 2017, for 10:00 A.M. at The Boyd Family Funeral Home, 5001 Chef Menteur Highway, New Orleans, Louisiana 70126. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Pastor Sam Young, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Providence Memorial Park, 8200 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA 70003.
