LYDIA GONZALEZ Obituary

LYDIA GONZALEZ Lydia G. Gonzalez went to be with the Lord on July 2, 2025 at the age of 89 years old. She is preceded in death by her husband John G. Gonzalez, and parents Elida P. and Carlos Garcia Jr. Lydia is survived by her sisters, Luci Adame (Bobby), and Viola Chapa Valdes, children Belinda Garza (Roland), David O. Gonzalez (Rosa Carrillo), and Joel R. Gonzalez (Marlyn Moreno), six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She was a 1953 graduate of William Adams High School in Alice, Texas and Draughon's Business College in 1954. Lydia was a loving housewife and mother of three children. Lydia was truly an amazing and talented wife, mother and grandmother. More amazing was the balance she showed in all the roles she filled in her life. Lydia enjoyed gardening, listening to music, watching Spanish Novelas, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She was involved in church activities at her longtime parish, St Joseph's Catholic Church in Alice, Texas. Lydia was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother of strong faith. Her style and grace will forever be remembered. Her kindness and generosity, and especially her love of family is the greatest legacy she leaves behind. A visitation for Lydia was held Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 PM. OUR SINCERE SYMPATHY TO THE FAMILY.

Dr. Neida Estringel

July 12, 2025

My deepest condolences to the Gonzalez family on their loss. Belinda, I do not believe I ever met your mother, but I agree that "Her style and grace will forever be remembered because those traits were reflected in you." You might not remember, but I was your Spanish teacher at William Adams Jr. High School many a many years ago. You and your St. Joseph School alumni were a very special class. It was your first year in a public school and you all brought with you such a respectful behavior, such good study habits, such attentiveness, and such eagerness to learn. I can still remember where you all sat in that last room across from Mrs. Marmolejo 's classroom. You were at the head of the row. What a joy you were to teach! So I know that your mother had to be so special to her family and that your siblings and you are "the greatest legacy she leaves behind." Imagine, over 50 years and many students ago, this 80 year old lady whose mind occasionally falters, still remembers that beautiful and bright student in her Spanish class! I also want to express my condolences to your Aunt Luci. She was my sister's neighbor in Laredo. Your Uncle Bobby and my family were neighbors in San Diego. I do not recall how when I met your aunt, we realized that you were her niece and once one of my favorite students. God has a special way of bringing special people together in spite of time gone by and in spite of distance. God Bless You!
