Frank ROCKSTROH Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

ROCKSTROH, Frank Frank Harry Rockstroh (April 13, 1929 - May 21, 2012) Frank Harry Rockstroh passed away quietly in his sleep, early in the morning of May 21, 2012, after a long illness. Frank is survived by his devoted wife of almost 60 years, Erica Meyer Rockstroh. His daughter, Esther Rockstroh Taylor and her husband, Donald Taylor, and their children, his beloved grandchildren (his favorite people on the planet) Erica Stephanie Blanche Taylor and William Henry Blake Taylor, as well as, his son Philip Harry Rockstroh and daughter-in-law, Angela Tyler-Rockstroh. Frank was a man of many passions, both as a professional and an enthusiast. Stationed in Birmingham, Alabama, as a photojournalist, in the employ of Black Star syndicate, in the 1960s, he photographed many of the iconic images of the Civil Rights era. His enthusiasms included computer science, karate, art, folk music, left-wing politics, the struggle for social justice, and Native American custom and lore. (He was born of half Native American ancestry.) A unique individual and a rare soul, he was much loved and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. I knew Phillip through his children and wanted to express my regrets at his passing. I have fond memories of Ether and Phil junior at the Karate studio. Love long and prosper, kids.

Dear Erica,

Joe and I want to express our deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to you and your family.

We haven't seen each other for umpteen years; our daughter Sandy lives in Atlanta and saw Frank's obituary in the paper. Remembering you and your family from Birmingham, she sent it to me. Please e-mail me ([email protected]) and send me your telephone number. I would love to speak to you.

Do hope you get this message and, again, our deepest sympathy.

Lasting relief will come through meditating on God's grand purposes. I am sorry for your loss. (Psalms55:22) is a comforting thought when going through difficult times.

Mrs. Rockstroh,

Please accept our condolences on the loss of your husband. Although we did not know him, we have fond memories of you as you taught our son in the first grade at Skyland School in 1978.
