ROTHMAN, Richard Joel

Richard Joel Rothman, 85, passed away on March 21, 2026, in Rising Fawn, GA. Born on October 3, 1940, Richard was known for his curiosity, artistic talent, and adventurous spirit.

A graduate of University City High in St. Louis, MO, and further educated at Washington University and the University of Chicago, Richard embarked on a notable career as an architect and city planner, founding Richard Rothman & Associates, in 1978. His professional legacy includes numerous contributions to urban development and community planning. He was awarded a fellowship with both the American Institute of Architects and the American Institute of Certified Planners, a unique achievement and honor.

Richard's passions extended beyond his professional life. He was a skilled artist, engaging deeply with drawing, sculpture, and painting. His love for travel complemented his artistic pursuits, providing him with endless inspiration. It was on a trip through the Middle East and Europe in 1961 as a young man that he met his wife of 63 years, Micheline.

Richard leaves behind his beloved spouse, Micheline Rothman; sons, Stephen and Eric Rothman; daughter-in-law, Jenny Rothman; grandchildren, Anabel Rumbaugh, Rachel Rothman, Quinton Rothman, and Charles Nelson III; and great-grandchildren, Eli Rumbaugh and Gemma Louise Bell.

A celebration of life to celebrate Richard's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Georgia-Alabama Land Trust, honoring his commitment to land conservation and the environment. Richard's legacy of creativity, exploration, and dedication to community will be remembered by all who knew him.
