Asheville - Audrey Bray Ensley Guffey, 89, joined our Lord in Heaven on Saturday 22 September 2018 after a brief illness.

Audrey was born in La Grange, GA and grew up in Sylva, NC. She was the daughter of the late Bedford and Octavia Buchanan Ensley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Max Edward Guffey, sisters Ruby Hollis Ensley Davis and Rebecca Ensley, and brothers Lloyd and George Ensley.

She attended Memorial Mission Hospital Nursing School and graduated as a R.N. in 1948. After starting a family she returned to nursing and retired later, after 47 years.

Audrey will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving mother, an ardent gardener, an avid reader, and as a gifted ceramicist and cook. She was famous for her outstanding homemade poundcake with its special ingredient of love. She was a member of New Bridge Baptist Church.

Mrs Guffey is survived by her son William Edward Guffey of Pawlet, Vermont.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ashelawn Gardens with the Rev. Clark Henderson officiating.

The family will receive friends at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.
