Richard J. "Dick" Beniamino

GENEVA - Richard J. "Dick" Beniamino, known lovingly as "Papa" to his grandchildren, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 13, 2025 at his home.

Friends may call on Friday Sept 19, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Cheney Funeral Home 70 Main Street Phelps. A memorial service will be held on Saturday Sept 20, 10:00 a.m. at Cross Creek Church 3700 N.Y. - 31 Palmyra, N.Y. 14522.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial donations be made to the Phelps American Legion 1346 N.Y. - 96 Phelps, N.Y. 14532.

Dick was born on September 11, 1950, in Geneva, N.Y., son of the late Samuel and Gertrude LeGrett Beniamino. He lived a family-oriented life full of love, hard work, and service to others.

A proud veteran, he served his country honorably in the United States Army Reserves. After his military service, he devoted 42 years of hard work to NYSEG, where he was known for his strong work ethic and loyalty before retiring.

His passion for sports and mentorship led him to coaching both baseball and football for many years. Alongside his brother Phil Beniamino, he coached Vince Lombardi football for the Midlakes Junior Eagles. Together, they were affectionately known as the "Bruise Brothers" and the "Killer Bs."

More than anything, he cherished time with his grandchildren-always present at their games and events, cheering with his signature "woot, woot!" so they'd know Papa was there.

In retirement, he found joy on the golf course, playing nearly every day. He was also the go-to man for family and friends; always ready to lend a hand, fix anything, and offer support. He truly was "Mr. fix-it" and gave generously of his time and talents to anyone in need.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Roberta; his children Kristine (David Scherer), Tony (Maribeth); and his cherished grandchildren Jacklyn Walters, Connor Walters, Aria Beniamino, Gabriana Beniamino, and Mason Scherer.

His legacy of love, laughter, hard work, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Papa, you will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
