Charles R. Rubado Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 1, 2005.
When David White was an ROTC cadet, he got a lesson in how calm and cool fellow soldier Charles R. Rubado really was. "I remember on a field training exercise, I had an accidental discharge of my weapon. It was a blank, right at his face," recalled White. "Instead of jumping on me like most, he took me aside and said, 'Hey, White. That's not how we do it.' He was definitely a good guy." Rubado, 23, of Clearwater, Fla., was killed Aug. 29 by small-arms fire in Tal Afar. He was based at Fort Carson. "The thing that struck me the most was his quietness and focus. He was not easily excitable, very mature and calm _ more so than most cadets at his level," said Maj. Chip Seifert. Charlie graduated Florida Southern College in 2004, was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and a criminology major. He played soccer in high school and loved being in the water. He is survived by his wife, Mary-Anne. "He did everything right, he was truly perfect," said Matt Rubado, Charlie's cousin. "He had a path. He graduated from college and went in the military. He was married. He was just plain happy."

Was the PSG in Lts half QTR TROOP. Remember when he came to us in Sinjar. I immediatley liked him. On our first mission,a Cordon and Search, I told him to take a seat and would lead this one and show him the ropes. He did without hesitation, thats when you know you have a great officer, a great leader!!!! Miss you and will see you again brother.

I was in iraq with LT. Rubado. I was part of the Infantry unit for Crazy Horse. I remember hanging outside the bunks talking all the weird things that come out of my mouth, im hyper. Everytime he was out there he would turn off his headphones and close his book and listen to all the crazy stuff i said. He wouldnt respond or get upset, just laugh at me. And thats all anyone needed to do. I call him LT. because he was promoted after his death. To his family, know he is watching and happy. He always was.

Hard to believe that you turned 30 on 7/12/2012. Your mother, me and brother Steve and his family were at Bay Pines National Cemetery on the 12th. We shared some great memories and we all miss you every day. Life is a little hard to handle sometimes knowing that you won;t be walking in the door. Miss you son but we will soldier on.

This past Saturday, July 31, 2010, the first annual Warrior Walk was held in Lakeland, FL. The walk was organized to honor Iraq & Afghanistan veterans of Polk County. I am so proud to say, upon my registration, I was handed a placard to represent Lt. Rubado. I was honored & humbled to place his picture over my heart & walk the three miles around Lake Hollinsworth. We can never, ever do enough honor our fallen warriors, but we will never ever forget either!

Charlie,

Being away from Florida Southern for so long, I just heard about what happened. After I found out, I did some searching and found this site dedicated to you and have read every message in it. I felt that I should write this and let you know how proud we all are to know you. It's soldiers like you and your brothers in the military that allow my sons to grow up in a free and safe country. For that, I thank you. I'll never forget you from our brief time together at Florida Southern and you will always be my brother in Lambda Chi Alpha. God bless you, Charlie.

To the family of Charles Rubado, my name is Jim Vanderbleek and I live in St. Petersburg, Florida. This Memorial Day 2010 I wanted to do something special for the “Fallen Floridians” since 2001. I wanted to honor them in a way that would be a touching tribute in the eyes of the community as a reminder that we must not forget the sacrifice they and their families have given for all of us. A special cross, along with the other 238 fellow Floridian brothers and sisters, was erected on the church grounds of Northeast Presbyterian Church. Your son's cross is on display through June 5th, 2010. The photo attached shows the entire display. The link attached will take you to a slide show in Honor of Brave Men and Women of our Armed Forces. There will be many prayers for your son this weekend as we pay tribute to all of the Fallen Soldiers from 1775 to 2010 during our worship service on Sunday May 30th.

Not a day that goes by that I don't remember that day, when God took you from labour to reward, and the long ride back to the FOB, it seemed like a life time. Tears rolling down my face praying the God will be. You have touched so many lives here on earth, your legacy will live on in all that had a chance to meet you and serve with you. I still remember you sitting their in your chair with your Bible in hand, smiling. I just wanted you to know that you made me a better Christain, man and Soldier.

Charlie,
You are missed greatly Friend .
My thoughts return to you much in these recent days . Specifically our last conversation, as my crew and I returned from a mission we passed in the motor pool. In our passing I smiled at you and said ( Go With God. ) As if embracing the message you stood up on the top of your tank stuck at your chest and smiled and replied ( Always I will always go with God.)
Whenever I think of my friend Charlie this is the image and message that always comes to mind .
Thank You Charlie,
Your Friend Always,
Your Brother in Christ Forever,

My Dear Charlie,
I can't believe 3 years have come and gone since your death...I keep pondering how I've come this far without you physically being here with me. I know you wanted so much for me and I know your smiling on how I've decided to live my life. I agree with Marcus, not a day goes by that I don't think of you or have someone email me about you. Your lifesong still lives on. I hope that when I die, my legacy will mean just half of what yours does. We miss you very much! Ethan joined us a few weeks ago (something joyous in the month of August) and he is such a blessing. God is still working in my life and he has brought many awesome blessings in my life, Jeremiah and Ethan.

You're missed and loved so much!

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Charlie, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Charlie,
We never had the chance or opportunity to meet ever, but I know deep inside that you know me better than anyone else, other than our Master, Lord And Saviour, Jesus, when I am writing this into the guest book And you know at times we cannot put it in words, how hard we may try, the feelings and the emotions which we are trying to express. You know how honored I am to work for your brother Steve & sister-in-law Jan. They are great people. I now know that somehow, somewhere you are responsible along with Jesus in bringing Steve, Jan and me together. Your brother misses you a lot. I know that i can never ever take your place in Steve's life, in fact in anyone's life but I will definitely try to make their life easier by taking a lot of their work burden so that they are able to do the work which they are doing and you know it better than anyone on this earth that they are doing what God has instructed them to do. Help me to help Steve & Jan better. Love, Ashim Aaron Dohling.

To our dear friend Lt Rubado, not a day goes by that I don't think of you. Your memory will live forever in the hearts of the Men you served with during OIF 3 Crazy Horse Troop 3d ACR. As I sit here in Baghdad, Iraq on my 4th deployment to Iraq, I think about you often and remember the night that you, myself, and Lt Cosci sat on the ramp of our B-FIST on August 26, 2005 in Tal Afar, Iraq and talked about the mission and what we expected; I also remember saying good morning Sir, to you on August 29, 2005, but none of us expected that day to end the way it did. I can look back on that day now and thank God that I had the pleasure of knowing you, at such a young age you touched so many lives and we thank you and will always keep your memory alive.

Dear Charlie,
I am so extremely blessed beyond measure. Knowing and loving you was the best thing I've ever done and now I have another wonderful man who loves me and respects you so much. You taught me how to love so deeply, so I say thank you. Thank you to you and God for bringing Jeremiah into my life. I know you would like him too. We are expecting our 1st baby in August, which is a very rough month for me, as well as for others. I praise God for this miracle of life even during a month that brought so much pain and heartache. I know you are watching me and are smiling, one of your gorgeous smiles that showed a true genuine and Godly heart. You always thought I would be a great mom and I hope to be. I am sad that we never got to experience this amazing gift, but rest assure, this child will know all about you. I miss your smiling face.
I love you always,

Just wanted to send this letter, to say that yesterday marked two years since Lt. Charles R. Rubado went home to be with the Lord. Sir, your fellow battle buddies from Crazy Horse Troop during OIF 3 will never forget you and you will live forever in our hearts. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you and what a great person you were to work with and be around. You touched a lot of lives during your time here on Earth and we forever will be greatful for knowing you. May God continue to bless your family, Maryann, your parents, and your brother and his family especially the new addition to your brothers family. The newest addition will grow up to know that Uncle Charlie was a great man and is loved and missed by many. God bless you all!!

August 22, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

My Dearest Charlie,
Oh, how I miss you and love you so much. I think about you all the time. Another Memorial Day is coming up meaning another day of honoring your service to duty, honor and country. What I will remember is your humble heart, love of your family and friends and love for your Savior. These things I carry with me each day. They let me know that you are not far behind and encouraging me with each new day. How I long for the day that I can see you face to face. That smile of yours is imprinted in my heart and I can't help but laugh. You are missed by so many but never worry because you are with us in our hearts. Your legacy lives on in each of us who knew and loved you. There is no doubt that when you reached heaven's gates the Lord said, "Well done, Charlie, good and faithful servant."

Thank you for your awesome sacrifice! You were such a lover of Christ and a wonderful example for some many lost souls. I know there are many who now know our Beautiful Savior because of your witness. Mary Anne, you have carried on Charlie's mission and will always have Christ and Charlie right beside you every step of the way.

Hello Sir, just wanted to say that I still think about you all the time. I always remember the last time I talked to you on the morning of August 29, 2005. You are missed everyday, whenever I talk to my students at the school house I tell them about our brother Lt Charlie Rubado. I thank GOD that I had the chance to meet and work with such a great person (YOU). It was also a pleasure to meet your parents when I was home in Florida, they are great and I could feel the love when I was talking with them and when they showed me your room and all the pictures. I will be heading to Iraq again in about a month for the 3rd time, I'm an instructor at the school house, but we were given a detail for six months, so I'm going to Iraq to be on a IED task force to teach units how to react to an IED. Well, Sir I know that you are in a much better place, I bet it's really beautiful up there, but I would like to ask you a favor. Would you continue to watch over us? We love and miss you everyday!!!

Charlie~I don't ever think I got the chance to express my sincere and utmost gratitude for what you did for our country!~ You were a man of God and he definitely shined through you like no other! A lot has happened since you have left this place, but you definitely have not been forgotten! You would be so proud of Mary-Anne...she is one strong woman, I don't know how she does it!~ This has probably been the hardest thing she has ever had to encounter...but she is doing a great job keeping her head up and praising God for the way he used you to go out and fulfil his plan! She is a true testimony of you and God!!! She amazes me Charlie and I know you are smiling down on her right now! Your second annual golf scramble is coming up in April and I'm actually going to play in it this year...you would be proud. Dan and I have been together for over a year now and we talk often of you and all the college memories. I've seen all the pics of when you bleached your hair, lol. Oh, it is definitely a small world...the new chorus teacher at my school is Mary-Anne's cousin...Suzi. We talked about you and how beautiful the funeral was. (You impacted so many people Chalie, it was amazing to hear what everybody had to say. Your dad definitely touched me with what he said, "You are safe now son, Welcome home" and then when he saluted you, wow...it was absolutely touching! I still get goose-bumps just thinking back to that day!) God has the neatest ways of working in my life and how He keeps Mary-Anne connected to me! Charlie, it has only been a little over a year, but it seems just like yesterday...You are missed very much! I'm going up to Colorado in March to visit with Mary-Anne...I can't wait to see her! Charlie, could you do me a favor...could you please continue to watch down on her...she loves you so much still and tries so hard to make you proud in which I know she is doing :) Thank you again for what you did for our Country...no words I say will ever be enough to repay you! I look forward to the day we meet again my brother! God bless you always!
Love Always,
Zanetta

Mr and Mrs Rubado: It was a pleasure to meet you at your home while I was in Florida for a family reunion. Also thanks for helping me find Lt Rubado's gravesite and showing me his room with all the great pictures and letters from different people. Sometimes as a soldiers it's hard because you really don't get to say goodbye to friends, one minute they are here and the next they are gone. Yeah, we have a memorial service but it not like being at the funeral where you can see the person and say goodbye. Thanks again and like we talked about, whenever I'm in Florida I will stop in to visit. God bless you both and Mary Ann always.

Dear Mary Ann,

I am not sure if I am spelling your name right so please excuse me. This is a letter I have long thought about writting you and Charlies parents. You husband/son was a very good friend of mine although I only had a short time with him. I met him on a patrol the first time, then at a Bible study. We became friends instantly and adventually we were doing bible studies together often. Charlie and I grew very close and God placed us on many missions together. When he went to Tal Afar ahead of me the Holy Spirit had already put on my heart How Charlie would glorfy the Lord. I mistook the feeling as I needed to be there with him on every mission. All saw Christ in Charlie's life and it showed at his memorial. Everyone who spoke talked about Charlie's relationship with God. I just hope that when I die, others would speak of my life as they did Charlie's. To my brother Charlie; You were a man of God, and I rejoice in your salvation. You are with our Master now and I will see you again my friend-

As an active member of the U.S. Navy. I am constantly reminded of the dangers, the sacrifices, and hardships we all endure, but every single person that pays the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom that we as Americans enjoy every day, I am both saddened and supremely proud of their great love for country and humanity. To you that are survived my heart and unending gratititude go out to you, and although I never knew your son, I do know that he is a real HERO!

Dear Rubado Family,

Since attending the memorial service at FT. Carson on September 21 and learning what an awesome and "committed to the Lord" person Charlie was, we have taken great comfort that our own son Dennis Hay went "home" that day with the "very best". Hearing all the wonderful things about Charlie and what he stood for was tremendously meaninful to us and even though we greived for our own loss that day we also greived for you and with you. Your loss will never be forgotten in our household. We pray for you often and our thoughts are never far from you. We are on the same difficult journey and know that only God can truly be your source of comfort. We just want you to know how much we appreciate your son and his service to us. No words can express what is in our hearts. Even though our sons did not know each other we want you to know that our son believed in his mission and beleived more than anything that the guys on the ground were his brothers. We have to believe they are together like brothers now waiting for the rest of us. God bless you and comfort you and wrap His arms around you like only He can do. Patty,Barry and Bridgette Hay

I wasn't fortunate enough to know Charlie, or his family, but I would just like to say thank you for your sacrifice. People such as Charlie are the reason this country stands strong. I only ever met Charlie twice. He came to Crazyhorse Troop shortly before deployment and so I never had the opportunity to get to know him personally. But I knew him through Mary-Anne, who spoke of him often and still speaks lovingly of her husband. My heart aches for you Mary-Anne, because I know you loved him with everything you have. You will forever be part of the Crazyhorse Troop family, as will Charlie.

Charlie was a great friend of mine. We spent many days out fishing the lakes of Florida, and we never caught a thing. He was excited about 3rd ACR, about getting his Stetson and Spurs. To have you gone is something I think about every day. You will be forever missed. You are on mind as I leave tomorrow for Iraq, we'll finish the job. You always helped me out, you always had my back. I even remember those land nav points we made, or how about the barb wire obstacle course at FSC? Those were good times, I'll see you again someday, just wait for me at Fiddler's Green.

To the Rubado Family:

First I would to say thank you for sharing Lt Rubado with us. He was a great leader, soldier, and friend. It's really hard to believe that he's gone, but he's in a better place. On the morning of 29 Aug 05, when I was coming out of the bathroom, I said good morning to Lt Rubado, I never thought that on the night of 29 Aug 05, I would be crying and saying goodbye forever to a great person. My God bless the Rubado family always and Lt Rubado will never be forgotten and will always be apart of our lives.

There are so many things that could be said about Charlie. There isn't enough space here to even scratch the surface of how great a friend and soldier he was. He loved the Army, his country, and his wife with all of himself. He set the example for us to follow in life, and now also in death. Charlie, I will never forget you, or the sacrifice you made for all of us. Rest in Peace my friend and watch down over all us. Sleep well, your mission on this earth is done. May all of us be so lucky to follow down the trail you made for us. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Sir Hugh Walpole said "It isn't life that matters! It's the courage you bring to it." Charles embodies this. Even though I didn't know Charles, I feel a loss because Mary and I share a special bond in Zeta Tau Alpha. May God be with you.
