Brooke Gibbs Obituary

Brooke Elaine Burgher Gibbs
1988-2017
Brooke Elaine Burgher Gibbs, 29, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 25, 2017. Brooke was born on February 1, 1988, in Houston, Texas. She was the much-anticipated first child of Brian and Tiffany Burgher. She married the love of her life, Tracy Osborn Gibbs, on March 29, 2014, on Avery Island, Louisiana.
From the day she was born, Brooke was a shining star. As a child, she expressed a sunny personality, an inquisitive mind, and a joyful spirit of play and friendship. As she grew into an adult, that sunny personality remained, buoyed by an uncommon intelligence, an innate understanding of the importance of genuine friendships, and an abiding love of sports and athletics. Brooke was an exceptional athlete and fierce competitor who excelled at many sports but particularly at basketball. She was a three-year starter at Stratford High School, set a school record for the most free throws made in one season (2006), finished in 5th place for scoring in the city of Houston, and won the Don Coleman Award for outstanding basketball player of the year in the Spring Branch ISD. Brooke finished college in three years and was a proud 2009 graduate of Texas A&M University at College Station and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. For the past seven years, Brooke worked for Engage2Excel, a recruiting firm, where she impressed co-workers, clients, and prospective employees alike with her outstanding problem-solving and people skills. Although Brooke worked in an online environment, she developed positive, meaningful relationships with her clients and applicants through her commitment to her craft and her ability to communicate her focused goals and objectives without ever having face-to-face meetings.
Brooke was a prodigious hunter and fisherman. For 20 years, she and the rest of the Burgher family enjoyed annual Thanksgiving hunts with the Gabrisch family. She shot dove in Argentina, nilgai and white-tailed deer in South Texas, and skeet at the Rolling Rock Club in Pennsylvania.
Tracy and Brooke traveled the world in style, and their photos on Facebook and Instagram reflect their shared love of visiting a myriad of destinations– from Port Eads to Port Aransas; from Telluride to Turks & Caicos; from Cancun to Cabo; from New York to New Orleans; from Lake McQueeney to Las Vegas; from Austin to Australia – with each other or with their wide range of friends, from San Antonio to College Station to Houston to Beaumont.
Brooke believed in giving back. She was a registered organ and tissue donor. Through her gifts, others will go on to live healthy and productive lives.
Brooke was preceded in death by her loving grandparents, Rob Elaine Burgher and George Burgher, and David Doucette. She is survived by her best friend and loving husband, Tracy Gibbs; loving parents, Brian and Tiffany Burgher; twin sisters Libby Burgher and Shelby Burgher; grandmother Margaret Doucette; aunts and uncles Susie & Matt Pyle; Brian & Katherine Thompson; Elaine Burgher & Suzanne Jerrett; Ellen & Mike Williams; Lisa & Kelly Haws; cousins: Blake Barnett; Hannah & Henry Haws; Sarah & Ryan Lavin-Burgher; Sloan, Stockton and Sawyer Pyle; Courtney & John Spafford; Will Thompson; mother-in-law Patty Gibbs; brother-in-law Shelby Gibbs, wife Lindsay, and their children Gray and Reed; sister-in-law Rosemary Talkington, husband Lance, and their children Avery, Tyler, and Miles.
The Burgher and Gibbs families would like to thank friends and family for the outpouring of love and support we have received during this incredibly difficult time. We will always love Brooke, and her strong and positive presence will live in our hearts forever.
There will be a memorial service on Friday, June 30, 2017, at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, at 11:00 a.m. A burial service will follow at noon on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the Sacred Grove on Avery Island, Louisiana.

We are so very truly sorry to hear of Brooke's passing, and are both unspeakably sad that we won't have the chance to get to know her better. Brooke was always so warm and welcoming to us when we were able to spend time together and it's heart-warming to have seen such an outpouring of love and affection for her on here and on social media. It's clear that Brooke was someone who touched a great many people's lives in a rare way, and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brooke's and Tracy's family, now and in the times to come.

My honor and pleasure was to have known Brooke even for the brief of time and she will be missed by all of us who's lives she touched and know she will be dearly missed but never forgotten as she in now with our Lord our God in Heaven. It was a pleasure to witness the friendship and love Brooke and Tracy extended to their friends and those they newly met. Myself and my family benefited from their love and friendship and will continue this relationship through Tracy.

Tracy I know there are no words that will ease the intense pain you are enduring with the shocking loss of your beloved Brooke. Your deep love for Brooke is causing your crushing pain but know that its Brooke's endearing love for you that will see you through this hollowed darkness and sadness.

Brooke was an amazing friend to all who knew her. She was my very first friend when I transferred to A&M . She made a new place become less intimidating and was always a good friend to lean on. I remember when her cat got pregnant and had her kittens in Alex's closet and all the fun times when those kittens kept being moved out of her room and we kept moving them back. I remember when she told me about Tracy and how head over heels she was the second she met him. She will be so very missed by all who knew her. My heart goes out to her family and her husband. Brooke Rest in heaven sweet girl we will never forget you.
Wishing she was still here but knowing she is lighting up heaven now with her beautiful smile.

June 28, 2017

To Tiffany, Brian, Shelby and Libby, We have just heard the devastating news of Brooke's passing and wanted to immediately extend our deepest condolences for your loss. When we arrived from the U.K. In December 1991 and resided directly opposite you in Houston, we were so new and you all made us feel so welcome. We all remember Brooke so fondly in our five years there as a lively and vivacious young girl. Louise, Stephen and James, remember kicking the can with Brooke, the street parties and the Burghers famous Texas BBQs. You all will be constantly in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless. I was and am still so shocked and sadden to hear of Brooke's passing. I worked with Brooke virtually for a year before finally getting to meet her face to face. When I did, she was everything I thought she'd be and more. We sat across each other at dinner one night, and she excitedly told me about her engagement and wedding plans and very patiently explained to this California girl what a "landman" was. I will never forget when our food came - I was starving and dug into my salad and Brooke asked "Is that salad good?" I thought she was teasing me about how fast I dug in. I replied "It is REALLY good!" and Brooke just looked at me for half a second, then reached across the table, stabbed my salad with her fork and took a great big bite. I loved her instantly!!

She was truly a beautiful girl, inside and out, and my heart is absolutely broken for all who loved her. I remember that sweet girl, smiling and talking about her wedding and plans for the future, and it's unfathomable that just a few short years later she is gone. God Bless all who loved her.

Dear Burgher and Gibb Families,

I did not know Brooke, but my daughter (who also did not know Brooke, but was an Aggie) told me about her accident. Even though my daughter, Judith, did not know Brooke, she said she had always heard so many wonderful things about her in her group of friends. In our conversation last night, she was very touched by what happened, and I wanted you to know I am praying for you and asking our Father in Heaven to bring great good from this tragedy. I felt compelled to write. May God bless you with much strength, faith, and love at this time.

Brooke is one of the greatest girls I have ever known. Sweet, smart and beautiful. I will never forget the night she sat at my blackjack table at the high school prom night party... she stayed there all night and wiped out the bank. I told her she should fly to Vegas and do it again!

Then she married my landman and friend Tracy, and so he became the smartest young man I ever knew. And I always reminded him of that, but he already knew!

I cry with you.
