Marilyn Eckhart Obituary

Marilyn Schiermyer Eckhart, 90, of Archbold, formerly of Toledo and Maumee, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, after battling Alzheimer's and severe dementia for the past five years. She was born to the late Lawrence and Gladys (Edinger) Schiermyer in Toledo, Ohio, on Dec. 10, 1930.

She grew up in East Toledo and graduated from Waite High School in 1948. Marilyn graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1952 with her degree in education. She taught in Dundee Mich., Oregon, Ohio, and Toledo Ohio. Marilyn was on the first faculty at Starr Elementary in Oregon and a charter member of the Oregon Ohio Education Association. She was a charter member of the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and an active member of Chapter B of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic and educational organization for women. She was a lifelong member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Toledo.

Marilyn led a Christian life to her fullest. She was a Sunday school and Catechism teacher, Sunday school superintendent, member of Church Council, Women of the Church and helped with many church activities and events over the years. Her greatest enjoyment came with lifting her voice up to the Lord as a choir member for 25 years, with many of those years singing alongside of her sister, Carolyn. She loved to travel, entertain, play the organ, cook, and play bridge. She belonged to several bridge clubs through the years. Marilyn maintained deep and lasting friendships throughout her life.

Surviving is her son, Mark Eckhart (Mick Brown) of Archbold.

She was also preceded in death by her newborn daughter, sister, infant niece, brother, and former husband; and her childhood and lifelong friend, Patricia Lumm Eckhart.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, at Reeb Funeral Home in Sylvania, Ohio.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, at the funeral home.

A special thank you to home helpers Missy and Samantha; Fulton County Senior Center; Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home; and Community Health Professionals for their compassionate care as well. Thank you to Christy, Michelle, and Amanda, who kept Marilyn looking her best, engaged in her surroundings and activity over the past several years, allowing her to live independently until March of last year.
