WHITE Ellen Wisner White, age sixty-three, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Singapore, on May 4, 2013, of complications from a brain tumor. She was the oldest daughter of William J. For 20 years she was married to the award-winning architect, Carl Ettensperger, of Singapore and Jakarta. I met Ellen when I was a confused young woman making my way in the world. She was always kind and there with great advice and friendship, She was full of grace and a great sense of humor. She was so excited when her son was born as she really wanted a child. Sorry to hear that Carl also passed close to her.l Our condolences to her son and family. She is missed.

I was checking the Internet to see if I could find Ellen White and alas I did. I worked with Ellen in Hunter's Books in Beverly Hills for several years in the 1980s. We were good friends, saw a number of movies together, ate Chinese food which she ordered in her fluent Mandarin. The last time I heard from Ellen, she told me she, Carl, and Luke would be moving from Hong Kong to Singapore. She knew I like to travel and said you'll have a place to stay in Hong Kong. Well that never happened. I see that Carl died about the same time and apparently Ellen and Carl went their separate ways. Ellen was a wonderful, bright, funny, kind, sassy, and adventurous woman. Ellen managed to be an
Arabist who was comfortable with and among Jewish people. I am saddened two years after the fact. I hope Luke whom I've never met, but only heard about, is doing

well and having a good life.

Sad news. I hadn't seen Ellen for many years, but the times we shared remain memorable. She possessed a delightful zest for living, an infectious sense of humor, and genuine concern for her world and those living in it.

Ellen White was one the most influential people I have ever met. There are no words capable of expressing how saddened I am to learn of her passing. As one of her many students, she was a mentor to me during a profoundly difficult time in my life. I only wish I could have told her how much she truly affected me as both a teenager and an adult.

She was one of the most genuinely kind and thoughtful people I have ever had the privilege of befriending. I will never forget her.

Ellen was so kind to my wife and I when our daughter, Gretchen, transferred to SAS. We enjoyed having Ellen to our house for dinner. God bless you Ellen; rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Ellen was the best thing about SAS - She encouraged her students to be interesting, well-rounded people, and started by setting the example for us. I will remember her so fondly. My deepest sympathies to her family.
