Sunday August 25,2019 Receive this message/Email today on my very old friend Jimmy. to Sandra Tresch Gallagher, Patrick and Timothy, My wife(Ruth) and I both know the difficulty in the loss of family members to well, My Mother was the first to pass in my family in 1967,she was only 49 years old. We were still living in New Orleans at the time and Jimmy (God Love Him) stayed right by my side through this time of mourning, I never forgot what Jimmy had done for me and his being there was certainly a blessing. I wanted to share this one moment in time with you all, I never have mention this before, but wanted the family to know that Jimmy was there in my hour of loss. So to the family members I would like to add just one more thing in his memory, no matter how old we may get in life, always keep a family picture close by. Its been well over 50 years for me since my Mother passed away and I always have her picture close by so I won't forget what she use to look like and I also do the same with old pictures of my friends who have pass on as well, never to be put inside some place and forgotten in life and on behalf of my Wife and I, we send our Prayers to all, Jimmy is still sadly missed by me as well.

I always liked Captain Gallagher but it was during Hurricane Katrina that I came to truly admire him. I was assigned to the command center many days and I asked him how he stayed so calm while making so many important decisions , he told me that he would never take a job that he couldn't complete or see through to the end . While all of the chaos was going on he personally took the time to help me with a problem that I had. Looking back , it probably seemed small to him compared to the things that were going on but he didn't act that way about it . Capt Gallagher saw how important it was to me and treated it as such . I will always have the upmost respect for him .. Capt Gallagher will always be remembered..

Jimmy was a dedicated public servant. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke he was a man to be listened to. No matter what position he held, no matter what his rank was, he remained a true policeman at heart. He was never too important nor too busy to stop and offer advice or lend a helping hand to any policeman who he thought he could help.

I know working for him and around him has made me a better policeman. I would also like to think that it has made me a better man for the experience.

To Sandy, Patrick and the entire Gallagher family: Jimmy fought the good fight and finished the race, touching many people along the journey we call life. Rest assured that although his earthly body is no longer here for us to see, he lives on in the spirits of those legions of officers whose lives he touched. Now St. Peter and St. Michael have their own go-to guy.

To the Gallagher Family,

My deepest sympathy to all of you. I met Jimmie only in spirit that night at the park as I passed and stopped to pray for him. I have heard from my dad who knew him well how very special he was and I am so glad God drew me to him that night to stay and pray with him. My prayers are with you all now in your time of loss. I feel certain that he is in heaven, for he was an angel here on earth. May God's grace comfort you in your time of grief.

As a detective under then Sergeant Jimmy Gallagher, you strove to keep up with him. He was to be admired for his knowledge, skill, and drive to solve a crime. He was the go to guy for problem solving. I hope the best for his family after his unexpected death.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
