Helene Perkins Obituary

Perkins, Mrs. Helene (maiden name: Helene Agnes Berry) died peacefully in Orlando Florida on 4Jan2018 at the age of 98. Helene is survived by her son Howard A Perkins and two grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Howard J Perkins who died in New Port Richey, FL. Helene was born in 1919 in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from a Commercial High School in Brooklyn with a degree in fashion arts and clothing manufacturing. She married a fellow Marine Aviation support soldier during WWII and left the Marines as a Staff Sergeant. She also had a subsequent long career as an executive secretary; followed by retirement, during which she belonged to the Tampa area Women Marine Association. She enjoyed many years serving the community and disabled vets in the Tampa/St. Pete area. A funeral mass is scheduled for Tuesday 9Jan2018 at 1:30PM at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs. Condolences may be sent to the funeral home; and in lieu of flowers, kindly donate to Alzheimer's Research in the honor of Helene.

Helene, would have been an exceptional Marine and extremely intelligent to have held an Aviation Military Occupational Specialty. Women Marines served from 1943 1945 with a few hundred out of 23,000
that served continued on into 1946. The majority of women based on their
limited service time were discharged as Private's First Class thru Corporal
for Helene to have climbed two more ranks from Sergeant to the Non-Commissioned rank Staff Sergeant is an indication of her intelligence, leadership skills and continued outstanding performance in her field as a United States Marine.
