Dorothy Wolper Obituary

Dorothy G. Wolper, of East Norriton, PA, died on April 24, 2021 at home at Brightview East Norriton after a long illness. She was 92 years old. Born in Norristown, PA on May 1, 1928, she was the daughter of the late E. Michael and Dorothy (McGarry) Wolper. Miss Wolper was a music and first grade teacher for 35 years in the Wissahickon School District, at elementary schools including Stoney Creek, Blue Bell, Mattison Avenue and Shady Grove. One of her accomplishments is that she introduced the Suzuki method of teaching music to the Wissahickon School District. As one of her former students noted, “she made a lot of little kids happy with her music.” She was a graduate of Immaculata University with a BA in Music; she earned her master’s degree in Music Education at the University of Pennsylvania. She spent many summers traveling the world and after retirement continued to pursue her lifelong interests in music, cooking, puzzles, the beach at Ocean City, Maryland, and the Phillies. Miss Wolper was a longtime member of Visitation, BVM parish in Trooper, PA and lately was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic church in Norristown. Miss Wolper will be greatly missed by brothers Thomas A., John, F. Sr., E. Michael, Jr. (Josie) and sister Maryanne W. Marks (Herman) along with many loving nieces and nephews who recall her style, generosity, music and laughter. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brother Daniel T. and sister Eleanor Wolper Shackleford. A funeral Mass will be held at 10AM May 1, 2021 at St. Paul’s Church in Norristown, followed by internment at St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation hours are prior to the Mass from 9-9:50 AM at the church. Funeral arrangements are by Boyd Horrox-Givnish, 200 W. Germantown Pike, Norristown, PA 19401. The family thanks the wonderful caregivers at Brightview East Norriton, Holisticare Hospice and Senior Helpers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Miss Wolper’s memory to St. Paul Catholic Church, 2007 New Hope Street, Norristown, PA 19401.
