Guy Gerhart Obituary

Dr. Guy H. Gerhart, 84, of Benezette, died July 2, 2025, at Penn Highlands DuBois after a short illness.

A son of the late Sterling and Mildred (Reedy) Gerhart, he was born on January 10, 1941, in Bethel Township, Lebanon County, PA. On December 14, 1988, he married Gail (Fairall), who survives in Benezette.

Along with his wife, Guy is survived by five children: Kim (Steve) Kohler, Candace (Jason) Snyder, Gary, Craig, and Jonathan Gerhart; several grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Guy was predeceased by three children: Brad and Lorne Gerhart, and Kristine Lundberg; and three brothers.

Guy graduated high school in 1958. After graduating, he worked at a grocery store and The Department of Highway to save money for college. He attended Lebanon Valley College and graduated w with a BS degree in 1964. After receiving his BS degree, he was accepted into Hahneman Medical School and graduated debt-free in 1968 with his Doctorate of Internal Medicine.

After college, he enlisted in the Army and worked at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center from 1968-1972. After that, he worked as an Internal Medicine Specialist at Fort Meade, where he treated amputees, tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis, etc.

He opened his Internal Medicine Practice in DuBois, PA in 1973, where he continued practicing until 2015. He was well known for his knowledge in cardiology and diagnostics. He was the first doctor to volunteer his time at the DuBois Free Clinic. He was a very dedicated physician and cared very deeply for his patients.

Guy loved sports and always enjoyed attending his great-grandson Dalton's games. He was an avid Steelers fan and loved to be the announcer while watching. He enjoyed afternoon tee times with his friends; spending time gardening, cooking, building model ships, puzzles and playing solitaire during his lunch breaks. He loved to be outdoors and enjoyed hunting, including shooting an elk in Idaho. He and Gail enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. He loved to tell "Dad" jokes and making people smile. He gave the warmest, strongest hugs that you could feel long after he let go. He gave his love and time so freely to his family and community. Guy was a humble, quiet force for good and will be incredibly missed.

There will be no visitation.

The family will be receiving friends from 4–5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Weedville Wesleyan Church, Weedville, PA. A funeral service will follow the visitation at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the Free Medical Clinic of DuBois (47 W. Long Ave.) and will be accepting online condolences at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home website (www.nedzafamilyfuneralhome.com).

Dr. Gerhart was mine and my husband's Dr since 1980, he was a wonderful Dr, he always looked out for the best for us. My in laws were also patients of his, and we know Gail from being neighbors in Crenshaw. You have our deepest sympathy and prayers for your family.
