Larry Ramsay Obituary

LARRY RAMSAY Cedar Rapids Larry Ramsay, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on May 14, 2021, at Prairie Hills Senior Living. A public visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 21, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Larry Keith Ramsay was born on March 8, 1931, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of H. Darrell and Ethlyn (Tyler) Ramsay. He graduated from Wilson High School, class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1951-1954 during the Korean conflict. Larry was united in marriage to Donna Kaplan on March 20, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He worked for 38 years at Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric and he was a volunteer special deputy for Linn County for 25 years. Larry was active with his son's local Boy Scout troop, an avid fisherman and golfed well into his 80's. Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Brad) Shultz of Overland Park, Kan.; a son, Scott Ramsay of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two granddaughters, Abigail and Kelsey Shultz; and a sister, Carmen Ramsay of Mason City. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 51 years, Donna. Memorial donations may be directed to Mercy Hospice.
