Dale Teubert Obituary

Dale Teubert

November 20, 1936 – June 11, 2025

Dale Teubert passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, surrounded by love, with his wife Mary, their three daughters and two dear friends by his side

Born in Janesville, Wisconsin, to Reinhardt and Frieda Teubert, Dale graduated from Janesville High School in 1955 and went on to earn his degree from St. Olaf College in 1959. He then began theological studies at Luther Theological Seminary, which brought him to California as an intern. Though he eventually left the seminary, Dale continued his education at San Jose State University.

Dale found his calling in social work, beginning his long career with Nevada County. During this time, he rented a cabin at Empire Mine well before it became a state park for just $35 a month. His move inspired a close-knit group of friends from San Jose to also settle in Nevada County.

His passion for helping people extended beyond traditional paths. Dale co-owned the Hardrock Saloon in Grass Valley with Frank Hazy, where he offered his unique brand of support and camaraderie to the community. After selling the saloon, Dale, his wife Dixie Ann, and her daughter Christine Sturgell moved back to Wisconsin for a time before returning to Nevada County, where Dale resumed his work with Social Services.

Dale and Dixie later owned and operated the Northridge in Nevada City. After selling the business and eventually parting ways, Dale returned once again to social work until retiring from Nevada County in 1993. He then entered private practice, continuing his lifelong commitment to helping others.

While working in Nevada County, Dale met Mary Jungi. Their connection led him to Sierra County, where Mary lived and worked. The two were married in Hawaii in 2001, surrounded by two of their daughters, their husbands and two grandsons a testament to the loving, blended family they nurtured.

Dale embraced life in Sierra City with enthusiasm and heart. He was known for his unmatched popcorn-making skills and his ability to convert even the most loyal Budweiser drinkers into craft beer aficionados. His service to the community was extensive: Director of the Sierra City Fire Protection District, Director of the Sierra City Cemetery, and many years as President of the Western Sierra Residential Center Committee.

Dale is survived by his beloved wife Mary; daughters Debbie Moody (Bill), Christine Page (Bob), and Brooke Jungi (Chris Funk); and grandchildren Parker Walton (Rebecca), Connor Walton (Mayci), Rebecca Funk, Bailey Gilbert, Andrew Funk, Emily Funk and four great-grandchildren. Dale is also survived by his sister, Laraine Schweig, niece Julie Hamman (Steve), great niece Kristin, nephew John Schweig and great nephew Vince Schweig.

Dale will be remembered for his compassion, wit, service, and the countless lives he touched - both through his work and his unwavering friendship.

A Celebration of Dale's Life will be held in Sierra City on September 20, 2025

Oh Mary, I was so sorry to read about Dale's passing. He was such a wonderful man. I live in Montana now, so will not be able to attend the services for him in September. You are in my thoughts. My deepest sympathy to you and all the family.

Sorry to learn of Dale´s passing-such a kind man! I worked with both Dale & Mary at Social Services in the 80´s/90´s. Then as a private conservator, Dale was my landlord for several years at the old Salter Ranch-he dealt with a huge estate with patience & grace. My condolences to Mary, his friends & family.

I worked with Dale at Social Services from Jan 1973 through Jan 1975. He was the kindest, most caring man I've ever met. He was a Social Worker and the perfect role model for how to treat and accept people. Truly a humble and honorable man in so many ways. Prayers to his wife, Mary, that loving memories will help to ease her pain. He will be missed by so many that adored him.

I first met Dale in the mid 1970's when I started working at Nevada Co. Social Services. I always enjoyed his company and being a friend. He will be missed. I wish Mary peace and comfort at this time.

We (Doug & Leigh) met Dale & Mary in New Orleans - thanks to a love of craft beer by both Dale & Doug. We had so much fun that afternoon that we became Facebook "friends" for life. With us being East Coast, we dreamt up meeting in the middle (New Orleans again) someday, but well... We want to offer Mary and the rest of the family our sincere sympathy. We can only imagine just how much Dale will be missed.
