May God comfort your family during this time of sorrow. Dr. Floyd served as an interim at our church and I enjoyed his sermons so much. Heaven has gained another angel. God Bless!

Dear Katherine and family,
I am "keeping you all in the light" (old Quakerism) as you mourn Emmett's earthly passing and celebrate his life everlasting with the Lord God almighty. I remember when the Brewer family first joined Congregational U.C.C. I was in the third grade and terrified of going to a new church where I didn't know anyone. In an attempt to make a long story short, I remember one day, when I was still in elementary school, when either Dr. Floyd or Karen or Karyl approached me and invited me on an afternoon drive to the mountains with just the twins and their dad. Years later, when recalling that outing, my sister Cynthia asked me if I knew the real reason for the outing. Sceptically I asked, "What do you mean?" She replied that it was an attempt on Dr. Floyd's part to get me to "lighten up" a bit, as I had arrived at my new church extremely shy and unwilling to talk to people for quite some time. He thought an afternoon away with just he and the twins, who were my age, might be just what I needed to see that they were a friendly bunch at C.U.C.C. and worth making friends with. It worked! The shyness left me and over the years I have made many wonderful friends at C.U.C.C. Never could thank Dr. Floyd enough for sensing my fear and shyness, and helping me overcome it. Love, friendship, and prayers to you all.

I have lost a dear colleague, and the church has lost a wonderful servant. Emmett was a true gift to me and to all who knew him. He truly was a servant "for such a time as this" for his entire life. His service to the church and to the Southern Conference will never be forgotten. "You have reached that final port, my friend. Take your rest with the Master." My love and prayers for Katherine and all the family.
