Civic Memorial in Bethalto, Illinois, is my High School and we have came up with an idea of doing a memorial for all of the victims of 9/11. We are taking donations and even hoping we can try to get alot of people out to see what we have accomplished. We are taking 2,977 flags and lining them up along our football field. Each flag is going to have on person on it with a picture of them and a little information that we can find on the internet about them. We are going to start putting them in the ground on our football field the mornings of 9/11 and then we are going to lock the gates til 6:45pm then we are going to open the gates so that anyone that wants to see them can go in and walk around. If you have and questions or concerns please email me at [email protected] I will be more than happy to answer any question and hopefully get to talk to you about coming out and seeing the memorial on 9/11/2014

To The Family,
Although it's been over 11 years since the tragic day of 9/11, the pain that it caused is still present with us. I did not know Mr. Richard Gabriel Sr. but I still would like to offer my deepest sympathy to you.

Sincerely,
Mr. Terry of NC

Richard and I were teenagers together in Riverdale, NY. We were part of a crowd of late teens growing up during the Vietnam years with all of the inherent turbulence and uncertainty of that era. As he was a year or two older than me, his magnetic personality made him a model to which I was attracted. He was a man's man, young, strong, smart and self confident. He took a liking to me and, fortunately, advanced traits of honesty, character, humor, compassion and hard work that motivated me to be a better person and to pursue a rewarding career in government service. We drifted apart after his return from the war but I never forgot him for the example he set. The irony of his death at the Pentagon is haunting especially in light of his harrowing survival in Viet Nam. His fate wasn't fair, but I know he would have told us to carry on. That's Richie.

I had the opportunity of being Rich's secretary on the Kool-Aid Brand, General Foods Corporation in the '70s. Rich was indeed one of the nicest men I ever had the opportunity to work for. My sincere sympathy to his wife and children.

My prayers continue for Ann and Rich's entire family. It was in 1979-80 that I knew Rich at General Foods and I will never forget the care he gave me as a kind and patient boss to former fellow Vietnam Marine. In 1992, as GF "alumni", we explored a possible business arrangement..., a good memory & a road not taken.

Time has past but good thoughts and memories have not!

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

To the Gabriel Family,

I grew up in Riverdale, N.Y. and attended the same church as the Gabriel Family. I have such fond memories of our times there, especially during Christmas and the Choir production of Amahl. I am so sorry for the loss of a wonderful member of your family.

Sincerely,

Zoe (King) Jacobie

Rich was 2nd Platoon Commander, Hotel Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He served in Vietnam from Sept 68 to Nov 68 and was severely wounded and lost a leg on Operation Meade River. Richard, may you rest in peace. What a horrible tragedy this is. My husband Stephen and Richard were friends years ago, and both men served valiantly on behalf of our nation in Viet Nam. I'm sure if they could, they'd rush to serve our country once again.
