Rosa Chapa Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 17, 2001.
Rosemary Chapa, 64, of Springfield, Va., had worked in the Pentagon for 20 years, the last as a high-ranking civilian employee of the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Her section's offices moved within the last month to the first floor of the newly renovated section of the Pentagon, the part of the building hit Tuesday. She remained one of the seven people missing from her office Friday.

Though brisk and efficient in the office--she had worked in the past for the Joint Chiefs of Staff--at home Chapa was acquiescing, a humble woman who shopped for herself in discount stores.

She grew up near San Antonio, Texas, and was a teen when she married Jose Javier Chapa. Together they raised five children. At the Pentagon, she dealt with budget allocations and manpower matters for the DIA, but made it a point--often playfully--never to be too specific about what she did, said Phillip McGowan, who is engaged to Chapa's daughter.

I have finally found a way to express my condolences to the Chapa family. Working with Rosemary in the J-1 Section, I found her to be as vivacious and charming as this photo projects. I think of her often and miss her in the happy places of my heart

To Rosa's family and friends:

During the prayer service we had today at school the staff and the student body all recieved wrist bands with the name and age of a victim of 9/11 on them. Rosa is on my wrist band and I will wear it to remind me to pray everyday for her and the loved ones she left behind. I read her biography and the guest book and I am so amazed at what an amazing person she was and how many lives she touched. And although I never knew her she has truely touched my life as well. You are all in my prayers.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Layne

To Rosa's Family:

My heart goes out to you. I can tell by looking at her picture that she was a caring, loving person. Here is a scripture verse that is dear to my heart and may help you too:

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

God bless you.

Sinceramente,

Nicolás Chapa

I am terribly sorry about the Suffrage Rosa's Family has had to go through, and i wish them well in the future.

To Rosa's family. I was personally deeply saddend when I found out Rosa was missing. Even sadder when Rosa was confirmed dead. Rosa's younger sister, Elsa and I went to the same elementary school together; Our Lady of Sorrows in San Antonio, TX. I recall where you saw Elsa you saw Anna Marie Rico. The two have been inseparateable; they still remain very close. My family and I; the late Felix F. Sanchez, the barber, and Mother, Stella R. Sanchez, send regards and prayers to you, Rosa's family. My Mother now resides in Washington,

DC with my brother, Felix Jr. Sanchez.

May God help you through this difficult time. I offer a candle lit in remember of Rosa. This candle well always be replaced with another; it will always burn bright.

Now the Faz family will have a beautiful guardian angel watching over them. Talk to Rosa, she will hear your prayers.

Lovingly, Maisie Salaz (Mary Stella Sanchez)

May precious memories of Rosa Maria lighten the sorrow in your hearts. We are deeply sorry for your deep loss of Rosa Maria. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

When my niece(she was three) passed away almost 8 years ago from cancer.

I felt was devastated. I have those feelings again for all of those innocent people who died at the Pentagon, the Twin Towers and in Pennsylvania. I have a relative that works at the Pentagon, Gracias a Dios, that he is safe. After my niece's death i wrote a short poem in her memory.

I will not dampen your wings by crying

I want you to soar and go flying

to the first star I see

and know that you are looking down

at me

Your time on earth was so very brief

so I will remember the good times and toss aside my grief

Till we meet again, guide me me in this life, take away my pain

For entrance into heaven with your help I will gain

Keep me in your heart, that special place

I look forward to seeing you and touching your beautiful face

To the Chapa Family:

May the Lord comfort your hearts, and give you the endurance you need to weather this storm. We are praying for you.

Comadre Rosemary,

I never imagined that I would be writing something like this.

It was only a couple of months ago that we talked on the phone, and you were telling me to make plans to come to your daughters wedding. And how you also very much wanted me to go visit you during the time the cherry blossoms were in bloom...you seemed to love those cherry blossoms. When I think or hear of cherry blossoms I will always think of you.

We met 48 years ago at Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas. And for 48 years I was blessed with your friendship. Even though we lost contact for a while. But for the last resent years that we were in contact I looked forward to calling you, and looked forward to recieving your calls and talking about our children. It always made me so happy and proud when you spoke about my Godson Roger.

Your memory will live in my heart until we see each other in God's tommorrow.

Your Comadre,

Margarita (Mage') V. Ramos

I hope this encourages the family of Rosa that we are praying for them in their time of grief.

We Remember You

We remember you in your anguish and pain,

knowing that in this life you'll never see your friends or loved ones again.

You'll never see their precious smile or feel the warmth of their embrace,

or hear the laughter in their voice or wipe a tear from their face.

We remember you in the days to come when reality sets in,

that there'll be an empty place in your home and heart where your loved ones should have been.

Yes they should have been there in your life,

to share your joy to share your strife;

To share your laughter to share your tears,

to share your dreams through the years.

We remember you in our thoughts and prayers

And to let you know that somebody cares.

Yes we care that you are lonely and blue,

So we are sending this hug especially for you.

We pray you find peace from the Lord above,

And that He will surround you in His love.

We pray you'll have the strength needed to go on,

To prove to the enemy that they have not won.

And when the hurting comes anew,

Please know in your heart that we remember you.
