Anthony Tempesta Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 21, 2001.
A Broker and a Bass Player

The World Trade Center had a wealth of family history: Anthony Tempesta, had proposed to his wife, Ana, at Windows on the World. And Mr. Tempesta, 38, a broker, and his mother worked on the same floor at Cantor Fitzgerald, but she did not have to start work until 9 a.m., and he was in at 7:30 a.m.

Growing up in Staten Island, Mr. Tempesta learned how to play the bass guitar when he was just out of high school, by taking two trains and a ferry to classes in Harlem. One of his favorite audiences? His daughter, Amanda, 7, and her friends. (He also had a son, Matthew, 10.) He had to reschedule one of Amanda's sleepovers, because he had to attend his brother Michael's bachelor party. "Anthony explained he had to be at the sleepover because he was the entertainment," Clifford Tempesta said at his son's memorial service.

The family decided Michael's wedding, Sept. 23, should continue as planned. "He wouldn't want to be like a party pooper," Clifford Tempesta said. And at the end of his eulogy, he said, "I know Anthony would like to hear one last round of applause."

Anthony ,
Tomorrow @ 08:45 am will be the time we heard of the horrible attacks of the World Trade Center, which I know you worked at.
It has now been 22 years since you left us and I still remember you as my good friend and next door neighbor. I remember that day we were to celebrate Amanda’s birthday.
We miss you my friend and I know you are in heaven.

Just remembering Anthony today and hoping his family can somehow find peace today, I knew Anthony had strong family values, all he talked about at the gigs were you guys, I lost my younger brother in a 2002 car accident so I know the feeling of loss you guys are feeling today,my brother passed July 10th , everyone deals with grief in different ways, it seems to help me by keeping who you have lost in your life going forward ,because he may not live in the house in Elizabeth but now he lives in your hearts, Ana , he's in your heart, Mathew, he's in your heart, Amanda your father is always with you, I where my father's gold chain with the cross and the Italian horn, something he wore for decades is now around my neck, little things that were your father's, are important to keep, it keeps you thinking about him and reminds you that after all this time he's still in your hearts,, and always will be, my sincere prays and the feeling of loss for Anthony I feel quite often, I hope Anthony's wife and kids are all together tonight and you always stay close as a family, I may have Anthony on video take somewhere packed away in my basement,if you want it it's yours, not much footage but some, your friend, [email protected]

Hey Unc,
I've got some good news. Any time I have good news to share with the family, I think about wanting to share it with you, too. Although, a part of me thinks you already know, and a part of me thinks you probably had a hand in making sure there's some good in this world.

I don't really care for churches Uncle. But I know you found something special in them, so last year when I was in Paris, I fell in love with Notre Dame. I found it in me to pay a few touristic euros at the foot of a statue of Saint-Denis, the patron saint of martyrs, and I lit a candle. I wish you could have seen Notre Dame.

Even though we weren't close friends, I still remember you and the shows you did with your band "Captured". I also remember running into you at the Garden State Arts Center for an ABB show wearing a blue shirt with both the Greg Allman/Dickey Betts Band on it. You were always so nice and a great guy to see around every once in a while, not to mention a very talented musician. You are not forgotten. Rest in Peace, Anthony.

AT,
I've checked this page for many years and have never posted anything. I really don't why, maybe I find it hard to put into words what goes through my mind. I think about you often. We had alot of good times, man,it's hard to believe the "Funyans" days were 30 years ago.
When I read the entries, especially the ones from Alex, it tugs at my heart, and makes me realize how much your missed.
We'll meet again one day my brother, and catch up on old times.
Still the orchestra plays,

We miss you too much for words but we know you are still in each and every one of us and every life you have touched. You are a true legend, our legend. I remember when we were down in your basement and you were playing the bass for me, Rui and my friend Scotty, who will always remember you. That is the effect you had on people, they met you once and remember you forever, naturally. You actually turned on the radio and played every song that came on real time, even Madonna! You slap bassed Madonna, unbelievable! Anthony, we miss you man. I visited Ana, Amanda and Matthew a few weeks ago and we had a good ol time. I see your face in theirs. You live on forever. Anthony, seven years have flown by. You will forever be in our hearts. I miss the way you loved the family and loved to talk to all of us. You truly were interested in what we had to say. Paizinho misses you a lot. He always said, "Anthony really loves his family, all of us, not just his immediate family...you can tell by how he paid so much attention." Rember? Just nine days before you left us, we were all together celebrating his 80th birthday. AND, you brought special music to play just for my Dad. Your smile was contagious just as you watched all of your family together. It made you feel good. That's the kind of person you were. We all have that group picture we took that day. I'm sure you have seen it wherever you are. We know you are looking down on Ana, Matthew and Amanda, and all the rest of us too. Love ya. Cousin Olga.

I just found out about this guestbook. First, I wanted to say thank you for all of your love and support through all the years of my life. You are an inspiration to me and a hero. Secondly, I wanted to thank you for giving Maddy and I such nice weather on our wedding day. I felt you there. I even left a seat up front empty for you. Do you remember New Years Eve 2001? At midnight, I was outside in Baltimore staring at the sky. I wished you a Happy New Year and right at that moment, you sent a shooting star across the sky. Anyway, I wish Ana, Matthew, and Amanda the very best, and for them to know that if they ever need anything, I'm a phone call away. Say hi to my grandparents up there. You are forever in my heart. Hey Mr.Tempesta! How have you been. It's Amanda's friend, Sarah, again. I haven't written to you in a really long time it seems like. Amanda and I have been hanging out a lot lately, (just like always.) There's never enough gossip and never enough things to make up and talk about. We share eachothers thoughts as if we had a psycic scence in our minds. It's been quite a roller coaster this past year. Amanda's birthday is coming up soon, YAY!! I'm not sure what i'm going to get her yet, but some of Amanda's friends and I are planning a surprise party for her! How fun can i get, Mr.T.? She was telling us how she had always wanted a surprise party. Congradulations to Amanda, SHE CAN HAVE ONE NOW!!! One of her wishes will come true this year. And for me, mine would be wishing for you to be here to celebrate it with us. You heart may have stopped beating, but you love will always remain inside of you family no matter what. I want Amanda to hear your voice again, and to feel the cool morning kiss come down upon her forehead before you drift off to work. I want for Amanda to have a good and safe life because she is a great friend, trustworthy and loyal. She diserves the best. Bless your daughter, wife, son, and all of you family and friends. We will never forget you.

June 17, 2006

Dear Mr. Tempesta, Hi, My name is Brian, this is year 05'-06' I’ve become great friends with Amanda, we been through so much together and love each other’s company. We talked for hours at a time, I’ve heard through people about what happened but never got the real story until these past months. I didn’t ask Amanda to tell me she told me once we create a level of trust, it seems she’s finding who her real friends are. Amanda is the most loved girl in the whole grade, because she’s one of those girls who come once a million years. She’s a nice, funny, helpful, smart, musicloving, daughter, sister, friend, and talented, young girl. (I think I covered every thing there). You and Mrs. Tempesta should be proud. I’ve heard so many wonderful stories, about you; your band, your bass skills, and your loving father talent. I am from Brookside, so that means I came over to Orange this year, me Amanda were friends at sight, we talk about the most Random things witch is why were such good friends, and you know some people think that’s weird but we can care less. Also, I learned that your family is pretty popular, considering the fact the mayor comes over for a nice casual dinner. I’ve also heard about your family friends, I think that’s really amazing. I remember 9-11 so clearly my dad worked at a neighboring building, I was so scared, but then he came home, soon as I got older some moms, dads, brothers, sisters, and friends did not come home, it’s sad to see that a family like yours had to go though so much. I wish you a happy belated birthday, and your family the best of luck.

sincerly,

It has been a few months since I have spoke to you, I needed time for a while. I am very glad to return and find new entries. Amandas friends seem to completely understand what happened and are truley touched by you eventhough you have never met them. One thing is for sure Anthony, You leave behind a pair of unmistakeable children that had a father who will live on in them. I do not have children but often think of telling every child of our fantastic friendship.

Friendship is a responsibility, never an oportunity. The longer you have a close friend the more you understand how true this is. May we all be friends forever!

We see eachother about everyday, and talk to eachother everyday. We play games, tell secrets, and go shopping with eachother a lot. Everyday is a new adventure with us.

When Amanda first moved to Cranford, I didnt really know a lot about her because she was in a different class than I was. During the summer, we got to know more about eachother and we talked to eachother more and more often. Now, we're non-stop talking!

Amanda has told me A LOT about you. You seem like one of the funniest guys that i would have ever met. Amanda and I have shed our tears together in memmorable stories about you. I've also heard that you played the bass guitar and that you even had ur own band! i think that's really awesome.

You must have been a very lucky husband, to have a loving wife, beautiful daughter, and a son as funny as you probably were. Even though you werent my dad, i could still feel the pain in my heart as if you were in my family. The stories i hear makes me miss you, even though i never got the chance to meet you.

We all miss you, even I do.

Love,

Sarah Reisel

Dear Anthony,

I'm one of Amanda's friends I'm in the same grade as her and I also have an older sister in Matt's grade. Amanda and I have become friends this year we do alot of stuff together and with Sarah mine and Amanda's friend. I was introduced to this site tonight while at Sarah's house with Amanda we were typing in thing on google and she typed in your name a picture of you popped up with a website we clicked on it. Amanda asked Sarah and I if we wanted to read it but I had a feeling I would cry in the middle. So she asked us if she wanted her to read it to us. We said if she didn't mind. She read it amazingly she didn't stop or stutter. No tears were shed except for Sarah's and mine.

When she came to Orange Ave. School last year she was just acquaintaces to me but now we are like bestfriends. We talk alot about stuff like boys and makeup and especially music. She told me alot of times that she loves music it is one of her must loved interests. I never realized why until now. She told me how you used to play the bass in your band. I also play the bass and my father has a band I love his music also. It all clicked in to place. She has a screen name and it's MissMusic613 and on her profile is says "Music Equals Life". Now I understand why.

I was amazed and thankful she shared this informantion with me. I think you have raised your kids well and your wife and kids should be proud. I now I would be if you were my dad.

Hope, love and thanks to the Tempesta Family and to all that have lost a love(s) one in 9-11 or in any other case.

Love always,

Katrina Countryman x3
