Vincent Slavin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 23, 2001.
Outgoing and Outdoor Type

Vincent Slavin's fiancée called him "very outgoing, high energy, someone who walked to his own beat and never slowed down." His best friend, Tom Robinson, called him "a real New Yorker, a guy you couldn't put anywhere else."

Mr. Slavin, 41, was an equity trader and partner at Cantor Fitzgerald. He and his fiancée, Anna Baez, lived in Belle Harbor, Queens, three houses from the ocean.

Last year, he bought a vacation home on Stratton Mountain in Vermont. He and Ms. Baez drove there with their Rottweiler and their golden retriever on winter weekends for skiing and on summer weekends for biking and canoeing. There were also trips to the Cayman Islands or Belize for scuba diving.

Mr. Robinson, a private investor, and his wife often traveled with Mr. Slavin and Ms. Baez. "He brought everyone into his world," Mr. Robinson said. "Once, a co-worker mentioned in conversation that she would love to see the Oscars in person. Just like that, he got her tickets. He used to introduce me as his brother from another mother. I was proud of that."

Kitty, after 18 years have passed, my heart is in peace, I know that we will see each other again and I also know that in a spiritual level we never die, you are still very much alive... You came, took care of business and then went to a different place. Now everything makes sense. We will always be together not matter what. It was so much fun to have spent those years with you. Until we meet again, I'll follow your legacy: to enjoy every second as it were the last one.

Im saddened to read after all the years that have past, that I find myself looking for your Mom, and come across you, Vinnie. Every message I read, describes you to a T. I loved your energy when you would visit your Mom at LF Rothschild! Im very sad to just discover your loss of life due to 9/11. My heart breaks, as I continued reading, Loretta (Mom) as joined you in heaven too✝. God Bless you all. I miss our Wall Street Days!

I know its 10 years ago, but we think of you very often, pray for you all the time, and miss you more than words can say. You made me laugh, you made me smile when I couldn't and dried my tears and said "everything will be ok" I remember you would say, "as long as i love ya you'll be ok". Best friends we became and I will never ever forget!!

Vinman,
We first met in 1978 at the Greystone in Yonkers. Faithful Camping bud and paddle tennis partner, you became our adopted little brother. You were godfather to our firstborn son,
Brian.
We moved and lost touch over the years but we still smile remembering your reckless enthusiasm for life, passion for business, mischievous grin with a sparkle in your eyes and "who loves ya's?" You are sorely missed--as a friend, "uncle" to our son, father to your son, son and husband to your family...but will be remembered forever.

Anna and Michael,
I hope that you are both finding the courage to be happy and enjoy your lives. I know that you will never forget such a special fun loving and caring man but think that he would want nothing more but to see you both happy.
Anna, I am sorry that I did not get the chance to meet you but know that he was so very happy and in love with you. If you are ever back in New York and near his old neighborhood, stop by the Cronin house. You are always welcome.

Even though my son only knew you a short time and has no blood relationship with you. I see you in him everyday. He loves life and tries to enjoy it to the fullest everyday. I use to try to get him more serious, but recently he went to a DJ concert at Randall’s Island and when he showed me the videos. The crazy outfit & bandana, his rhythm-the way he danced, and his pure joy in enjoying every moment ~ I saw you. And as he becomes older, so many things he does and says remind me of you. From the days you DJ’d at the Bawdy Barn when you were younger to when we met again. You always enjoyed life. I really think the time my son spent with you must have stayed with him and hopefully he turns out to be just like you. It is even ironic his friends used to call him Vinman. Some things almost seem too coincidental. I thank God for him because his fun loving personality and the time we had knowing you. It makes me stop what I’m doing to take a moment to realize how special life is.

It feels like yesterday when I saw your big smile and mischievous blue eyes sparkle. Anyone who met you was sure to fall in love and have the time of their life. Your love of life, fun, and laughter was contagious to everyone around you.I thank God that I have had the opportunity to have had you as a friend. It has taught me so many personal life lessons. And if you could hear me now I should've took your advice - you were right. My heart goes out to Anna and Michael. May you watch over them always.
