Shawn,
In Spring 2013, I joined the Alpha Delta Eta chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, the organization you helped charter at UAlbany. For a few years, members of our chapter used to meet by your name at the memorial to pay respects and reflect.
This year, on September 16th, I turn 30. You´d be turning 51. I´ll be thinking of you.

Remembering Shawn on the 20th anniversary of 9/11...

September 11, 2020
Shawn was in our MBA in HRIS program at the University at Albany. He was a wonderful person and student. We were so happy when he got a good job, married, and started his life. We have been forever saddened by his passing, and we spend 9/11 every year thinking about him. We also wait to hear his name in the roll call of those who perished on this day.
I will never forgot Shawn and I am so glad that I got to know him for a short period of time. He will remain in my heart forever.

My husband & I had gone to the 911 memorial site on 8/23/14 while waiting for our time to enter the museum we stood near the falls when we looked down we saw the name of Shawn Edward Bowman Jr. We looked his name up on my phone & saw his picture , we said a prayer for him then entered the museum . Some time later while viewing the museum my husband & I turned & noticed from across the room Shawn's picture on the wall , we looked at each other with surprise then the pictures changed . Out of all the pictures it seemed to stand out almost to say thank you for the prayer. Although we didn't know him it was a heart warming experience that we wanted to share. God Bless Shawn & his family.

Hey Shawn, it has been many moons since you were taken so young on 9/11! Your sons have grown up to fine young boys! Liam and Jack carry a piece of you and I know carry you in there hearts. My sister raised them well, you would be very proud of her. We never got to talk much, regretted that but I knew you were a good dad and husband to my sister. Just wanted you know your not forgotten and never will be. Rest in peace buddy!

Mr. Bowman,
I recently became an Eagle Scout. I would like to tell you that you are truly inspirational. You are one of the many people I will dedicate my Eagle Scout award to. We will always have one thing in common, and that is the fact that we are both Eagles.

Shawn, You were a great RA and friend in our college dorm "Melville Hall" at SUNY Albany. Always trying to keep us from doing something wrong, you always looked out for us. I moved to Florida and found out about your passing. Each year I teach my high school students about you. You are a wonderful example of goodness, gone too soon. May God bless your family. By the way, I saw your sons last year reading names, they are just as brave as their Dad!

Hey Shawn,
You are truly missed here. I was up at camp last week. They talk about you before each camp fire. We are hoping to re-dedicate the ampitheater next summer, I am working on getting all the plaques redone and make the ampitheater look nicer.
I also want to thank you for watching over us.

Hey Shawn, got to visit the 9/11 memorial a few weeks back. Was in town for a short visit. Have been on the west coast for 10 years, first time to visiting the memorial. I was glad to see your name and my friend Robert Shay right near each other. You were both great family men who were taken so young. Your boys are growing up so quick, turning into fine young men. You would be proud of Jen my sister how she has raised the boys. There is a piece of you in both Liam and Jack. God Bless Shawn.

To The Family,
9/11 was and still is a tragedy that we wish we could forget. The fact that thousands of people died for no reason at all brings anger and much saddness to my heart. I did not know Shawn Edward Bowman Jr. but I would like to extend my deepest thoughts of sympathy to you in the loss of your loved one.
Sincerely,
Mr. Terry of NC

Shawn was a 1994 and 1996 graduate of the University at Albany. Today, the first anniversary of his loss, his alma mater planted two trees in memory of him, the other seventeen alumni lost with him, and the thousands of other voices silenced so brutally and suddenly. We especially want his wife and children to know how proud his University is of Shawn and his dedication to helping others. We share in the grief of so many families today, and we renew our commitment to the value of each human life.

I was listening to the radio today Sept. 11, 2002 and they told us about this site where we could go and express our feelings to people out there who lost a loved one last year.
The station said to just pick a name if nothing else and leave it on your screen all day just to remind us how precious our lives are and how difficult it must be for those families who lost a loved one.
By reading Shawn's write up in the New York times it seemed like he was an amazing person one that nobody could forget. Now that I have seen his picture it will stay in my mind forever and I will always keep him and your families all in my heart and prayers.

May God bless Shawn and his family. I worked directly for Shawn at Camp Aquehonga between 1991 and 1994. He was a great man and someone I truly looked up to. My fondest memory of Shawn was when we first met. He asked if I was the new kid from Staten Island. When I told him that I was, he instantly took me under his wing. God bless.

Shawn was a dedicated Scouter and Camp Staff Member at Camp Aquehonga. While I never had the opportunity to meet Shawn, other Scouters who I know today were his fellow staff members and speak of him with the highest accolades.
To honor Shawn's memory, the Camp Aquehonga Alumni Association is well underway in refurbishing the existing campfire circle in Shawn's memory. The Shawn E. Bowman Jr. Campfire Area will be dedicated in July, 2002. Those who knew and loved Shawn should know that his memory and spirit will live on for years to come.

To the family of shawn, my brother is Larry Bowman. Our lives have been drastically changed. Many want us to move on. "get back to normal" as I have heard. Normal is not in my vocabulary. One thing I do know is that God is still in control. He knows our pain. Trust in Him, He will give the peace we need to see us through.
I will pray for you as you pray for us.
Hold on ,Everything will be alright.

I am in 7th grade and as an honor to those who died on Sept 11, our whole school took most of a day to reflect on the events that happened and those who died. I didn't know Shawn Bowman but I read about him in the newspaper and he was the one I chose to honor because he would get up early and dress his daughter so his pregnant wife could sleep a little longer. He must have been a very kind person. I ordered a mercy band with his name on it and I wear it every day. I want his family to know he will never be forgotten.

My heart feels your pain at the loss of Shawn for I have many fond memories of him. for he was one of my Boy Scouts, Jennifer my heart goes out to you and your children for it is the worst thing that can happen to a young family, to lose a father, a spouse, a friend.
I know that Shawn had a lot of love in his heart and that love will go on in his children.
Thw worst thing for a parent in life is to bury a child that loss must be as painful for Shawn & Carolin as is the pain for Jennifer.
If takeing Shawn at such a young age was Gods will, than he certinly got the best of friends in Shawn.
May god bless Shawns family and may they live a long life for that is the best way to honor Shawn Edward Bowman Jr.

We are deeply sorry for your loss of Shawn. May his life and love continue living through those who love him. May the warm memories of times shared with Shawn lighten the sorry in your heart. May you always feel the warmth of his love radiate warmth into your hearts. Our hearts cry with you.
America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
