The Father-Son Connection

When Evelyn Yeow watches her 5-year-old son, Jason, try a new kind of food, she can't help thinking of her husband, Michael H. Waye. Although Mr. Waye, a Long Island native, loved filet mignon, he was game for trying the unfamiliar dishes of his wife's native Malaysia.

"He was just like his son," she said. "Even when he would look at it and think he wouldn't like it, he would try it."

It was, in part, that openness that helped win over her parents, who immigrated to Queens 20 years ago. "My father was worried about me marrying a Caucasian," she said. But soon, her parents adored him. "He really cared about my family. Sometimes I didn't even have to ask him and he would offer to do something like taking my parents around or taking them to the park."

Mr. Waye, 38, who was in charge of the data center at Marsh & McLennan, was also working on an M.B.A. "He said his future would be being C.E.O. in one of these companies," Ms. Yeow said. Now, she says, it's hard to see what it was all for. "All the success, he did all these things — for what? After all this, he's gone."

At home in Morganville, N.J., Ms. Yeow is the connecting link between a little boy and a father who is gone. "He loved anything with water," she said. "I'm trying to train my son, and he loves swimming. I say, `Maybe someday you'll be like him.' "

I had the pleasure of meeting Michael on May 4, 2001 at his Marsh data center in NYC. We worked thru an update to his data center and had the pleasure of manufacturing his needs. I only worked with him for a short while but he touched me enough to think of Mr. Waye numerous times over the years. We lost a great man on that fateful day. Michael you are gone but not forgotten........RIP

I had the district pleasure of serving with Mike on the USS Henry M. Jackson. A very fine man that I am happy to of been able to call my friend. A caring person with a great sense of humor. Knowing him as I did, I am sure he was a great husband and father. Unfortunately, as is too often the case, I lost touch with him after his Navy days. He will be missed by many.

I knew Mike in High School. I have quite a few fond memories of those days: heading to the beach in his Nova with the radio cranked up, going to the movies, hitting the bars in Bay Shore/Islip, talking about future plans, etc. We always had a great a timenever too crazy but always fun.

I knew then that Mike would do some great things and be loved and respected by many. He had a certain style and personality that drew people close to him.

I think of him often and miss his friendship.

I didn't know Michael personally either, but maybe to strengthen his legacy I would like to confirm his family connection, as I believe Michael is a distant cousin of mine

My deepest sympathies go to the Waye Family for the loss of their beloved son. I grew up on Peach Street in Brentwood alongside the waye family. I remember many days going over as a nosey 10 yr old to help Mike wash his Fiat and thinking how cool of a car it was. He will be greatly missed

I remember Mike from the US Clearing/Quick & Reilly days at 26 Broadway, Info Systems Dept on the 11th floor. Since I was a messenger I used to pass him in the hallway almost everyday, real cool guy! R.I.P. Mike!

I worked for Mike for about a year at U.S. Clearing, my first full time IT job. Mike was a great boss who taught me many technical and practical lessons of the business that I still use to this day. Mike was most definitely one of the 'good ones'. I can still remember his laugh and his sense of humor. We all will miss him very very much.

I did not know you or anyone else who passed away the morning of September 11, 2001. I will never forget what happened or how I felt. I still can not make myself understand the kind of hate that could do something like this. May God Bless you and the family and friends that you left behind. Rest in peace.

Teresa and I both offer our deepest sympathy to Mike's family.

I knew Mike at U.S. Clearing. One thing about Mike was he always cared strongly about whatever he was working on. Mike the person and Mike the professional were both highly valued on our team.

I'll always remember the picture of his son on his desk.

I didn't know Michael that well ,but i do remember him from high school.I didn't know until recently that someone I went to school with had lost their life on that day.Our class of 1981 had just had their 20th reunion the month before in August.I know there was alot of people there that night ,I,m not sure if he was there, but if he was , its nice to know that he may have gotten to see some old friends and shared some nice memories of the good old days.My prayers go out to all his family members that he left and also to Michael himself.GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

I was lucky enough to have spent some time with Mike for the 6 months prior to the attacks. I dealt with Mike through our two companies doing business. We had just found out about 2 weeks before that we both were in the Navy stationed in the Seattle area around the same time. Although I was just really getting to know Mike, I think of him quite often and am saddened that a friendship was taken away from me. I am happy to let all know that Mike was on vaction with his wife and son just prior to 9/11 and I receive some happiness knowing that the little time he had left on earth that Mike had some quality time with those people he loved the most. I miss you Mike, God bless, Ron

To Michael's family and friends, my deepest sympathy. I knew Michael through his sister Eileen and I have one very vivid memory. I remember going over to their house and seeing a trumpet (I think that was the instrument) hanging from the ceiling in his room. You see (if memory serves me correctly) he wanted to play his instrument when he went into the service, and this was one way of practicing. I know this is an odd way to pay tribute to him, but it was a memory that I just felt that I had to share. It stuck with me for so many years.

I know that I hadn't seen anyone from my old high school in years, but when I heard that Michael was a casualty of 9/11, I was devastated. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of his family.

Godspeed.

We remember when Mike worked for DSL and US&S at Grand Central Terminal. He left many friends there who remember him well. Mike was also a veteran of submarine service with the US Navy. We will all miss him dearly.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
