Nestor Chevalier Obituary
Nestor Chevalier always let his kid brother, Maurice, tag along. Though the brothers were five years apart, they were inseparable growing up in Washington Heights. They worked out together at the gym, and danced to salsa at the nightclubs. They even moved out of their mother's house into an apartment of their own in the neighborhood. "We were the best of friends," Maurice said. "We did everything together."
Nestor Chevalier, 30, verified trades at Cantor Fitzgerald and had planned to marry his girlfriend of nine years, Lillian Fermin, in October. He loved to tell stories about his life, often exaggerating the details for even bigger laughs. He found a rapt audience in his family and friends. Just last month, Maurice took Nestor to a salsa club to celebrate his big brother's birthday. Maurice danced all night.
"I miss him dearly," Maurice said.

I live in Suisun City CA. 10 years ago our city received 2 portions of steel beams from the Towers. They were placed in front of our fire station as a memorial to all who perished on 9-11. At the ceremony in 2011 I received a card with Nestor's name. I still hold that card close to my heart. To Nestor's family: every time I pass by our fire station I think of your Nestor. I am sure he watches over all of you from his restful place in heaven. God Bless you & all of your family members. I will be placing a flower of remembrance for Nestor on the steel beams this weekend on the 20th anniversary of his passing.

Earlier this week our town received 2 10ft steel beams from the WTC. Today a 911 memorial ceremony was held in our town (Suisun City CA). At the ceremony today they handed out name badges for people to wear, and I received Nestor's nametag. To his family and friends, I feel your sadness and pain at losing this young man. I will cherish his badge, and keep it always to remember how suddenly our lives can change. I wish you all peace.

I stumbled upon this site and my heart felt as though it was pierced when I saw my dear sweet friend. My heart is saddened because we lost touch and I had not spoken to you for awhile. We had such great times when we worked in Brooklyn together and hung out for lunch sometimes. You are the type of person who brightens everyone's day, how could anyone stay in a bad mood around you! This morning, on the first anniversary of 9/11, I attended a performance of Mozart's Requiem. As we entered the Basilica, each person was given a commemorative button imprinted with the name of a 9/11 victim. With shaking fingers, I pinned the button bearing the name of Nestor Chevalier onto my red, white and blue dress. As the strains of the beautiful music filled our exquisite Basilica, I whispered your name, Nestor Chevalier, and wondered what kind of person you were. I prayed that your last moments were not filled with terror, but rather that you felt the hand of God on your shoulder as you left this earth. I will continue to pray for you Nestor, and for those you left behind who miss you so dearly, especially your dear brother and fiancee. May God give them all comfort. I met you one late-afternoon in the Spring of 2001; riding the 1 Train home. Your aura was so vibrant, I couldn't help but notice you. I'm never going to forget you and your voice. Although we never met, through our jobs we became good friends. I'm never going to forget how I felt the morning of Sept 11 while I stood on my trading floor. You were the first person I thought about and I prayed that you had called in sick. As a couple of days passed I could still feel my heart in my throat looking for a picture to match the name "Nestor Chevalier" while walking through Grand Army Plaza. You are a very bright young man...do you remember our conversation we had the day before on 9/10? As always after taking care of work we would have a little chit chat. I would ask how your mother was, you would ask how school was going. You became a very special friend via phone. You're very sweet and I'm never going to forget my friend Nestor. We grew up together, and I definitely know how long a road you took to achieve your level of success. You were the pride of Washington Heights, the pride of our Dominican community. We on the block mourn you still to this day.
Many of us from the old school of Saint Rose of Lima are still in shock, especially the girls, because you were to many of us our first kiss.
My heart till this day has not grieved less for you. I wish I had gone with you guys to that salsa party with you, Mauricio, and your cousin as planned instead of me staying home.
I know your fiancee has lost a great love, but I am sure that you can love her still in heaven.
