Linda Rivera Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 11, 2001.
A Signature Giggle
Everyone who knew Linda Rivera adored her trademark giggle.

"It was very high- pitched, very squeaky," said Dennise Delgado, a close friend who had been laughing with Ms. Rivera since their days at Canarsie High School in Brooklyn. "She'd laugh at everything, even if it wasn't particularly funny."

Ms. Rivera, 26, worked in human resources at Marsh & McLennan but rarely discussed her career with friends and family. Instead, she chattered about her new apartment, her cat and two dogs, her boyfriend of six years and her younger brother, to whom she was so devoted that she attended his parent-teacher conferences.

She grew up in East New York, Brooklyn, the daughter of Puerto Rican parents who spoke little English. More recently, Ms. Rivera had set down roots in Far Rockaway, Queens, where she was making do with hand-me-down furniture until she could afford nice new things. In particular, she was eager to trade her beat-up futon for a plush sofa. Ms. Delgado visited the apartment only after Ms. Rivera died, to help her friend's parents sort through her possessions.

"She was going to do something special when it was all set up," Ms. Delgado said.

You never met my youngest daughter but today she is on a school trip in DC and she texted me to ask for your name. I guess she is visiting the 9/11 Memorial in D.C.. She remembered you because when I took her to NY, I showed her your name. That was 4 or 5 years ago. You are remembered by so many people who loved you and your sweet, loving, nature is known by even those who never met you. May you continue to Rest In Peace. You will never be forgotten.

God, 20 years and you missed like crazy my friend. We kept in touch while I joined the army and now I have been retired for 5 years. I can’t believe you are not here to have seen me finish this journey. Until we meet again and may you rest in eternal glory.

I knew Linda from Canarsie High School. She was a very sweet person. Always smiling. She had a bubbly personality, which was probably why they called her Bubbles. She was known for her giggles. The last time I saw/spoke to her was on the 6 Bus in Brooklyn a year before 9/11/01. It's true when they say to cherish every moment you spend with the people in your life because you never know if it will be the last time you see them. Rest In Peace, Linda. You will always be remembered.

I have always wondered if linda had a page like this. I knew linda from berkeley college, from 1994-1995. I then entered into the army and me and linda remain close friends. She would always write to me and send pictures and we would talk about so many things. I still remember our conversations from when she got her first aparment and when she met her boyfriend danny. I was in Korea at the time and I would leave emails and messages on her phone to see if she was alive that day. A week later her boyfriend sent me an email and let me know that she was missing. Linda continues till this day to be the most sincere and best friend that I have ever had. I have served 2 tours in Iraq and I go with pride to hopefully oneday make sure that something like this will never happen to our country again. Linda you will forever be with my in heart and your name in my arm. You were and still is the best friend anyone could every ask for. Thank you, Love you always,
Alex

During Crime Scene Investigations class, I was doing college research of 9/11... Mistakenly, I came across this picture of Linda Rivera, who resembles my younger sister, Russelle Ayala. Like Linda, Samuel "Sandy" Ayala, was also taken from the "Ayala" family... Linda's family: Please know that your pain, is also our pain... May God Bless Your family and America! My thoughts and prayers are always with the families, friends and victims of 9/11... I will not rest, until justice is served! ~Coney Island-Brooklyn Girl~

I went to Brooklyn College with Linda, where we were both part of a Puerto Rican student organization, "PRA". I didnt know she was killed on 9/11 until recently. I'm shocked and hurt to learn of her death. She was a vibrant person, sweet, full of life, with an infectious laugh. I'll never forget her laugh or the sound of her voice, which we always joked with her about. I always wondered what happened to her and her beau and this is the last thing i expected. Though i'm truly and deeply hurt to hear about her death, I pray the Lord has welcomed her happy soul into Heaven. God Bless you Linda...

In remembrance of all the victims of Sept. 11, I was searching for possible lost relative(s) of the World Trade Center, on the internet. I saw this beautiful picture and started cry... My family cannot believe the strong resemblance she has of my youngest sister, Russelle Ayala and I wished I had met her so she could meet my sister as well. Although I've never met Linda, I feel as if I've known her deep inside my aching heart. Her name stands for "Beautiful" and she is the most "Beautiful Angel" I've ever seen... May the Lord bless you Linda, your beautiful family I've not known, and America. With all my love and never ending tears... ~Alma~

I never really new Linda that well, but my mother did. From what I heard, she was a sweet girl and very beautiful. I only new her mother and father and little brother a little bit. I used to see her family at our local park once and a while and her oldest brother was friends with my brother. I never met her but God rest her soul. We will never forget her. She was beautiful, and shouldn't have had her life taken away so soon.

I only new Linda for a breif time. I work for a company that worked with Marsh. I never met Linda but I did speak with her, emailed her and faxed her documents. Her picture has now been each with the voices.

When this terrible event happened I felt so terrible for all of the families, but being in Fort Wayne I never dreamed that I knew anyone that worked in the towers. During lunch, the day of the attacks, my boss said that Marsh was located on the floors where the plane hit. My heart sunk. It became real, I had connected to 2 souls in the tower. Linda Rivera and Mark Shulman. From time to time I still come across papers that we worked on together and I stop each time and think how could this be real.

Linda, you walk beside all of us every day, in the blessing that are showered when it rains and in the rays of the sun that warm our faces. You will not be forgot.

With tears in my eyes, it was my honor to wear the name of Linda within a heart as we sang the Mozart Requiem earlier today in Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania. Although I did not know her, the personal testimony of those who did, says it all. God be with you Linda and those who loved you.

It's been more than 9 years since I've seen Linda. I'm originally from Brownsville, Brooklyn. We went to Canarsie High School together. It's funny how time flies by. I lost contact with Linda shortly after High School when I moved away to Puerto Rico for about 2 years and I will forever regret not having kept contact with her for so long. So far from what I know of I lost Linda and 2 other friends in the attack. I only found out a couple of months ago that she was one of the victims. I am still in shock. I cared about Linda very much and wish to send my regards to her family and boyfriend. She was so special and unique in my eyes, she made you feel good about yourself even when you did not want to. I am still in shock from hearing the news. I'm sorry if I'm rambling on, but I just saw a picture of her on the internet and it's just breaking my heart to see her name and picture on my screen as one of the victims. I'm not a religious person at all, but I will definitely pray for her tonight. Her death just does not seem fair. I will always remember her face, name and beautiful smile for as long as I live. Especially the times we hung out after school at McDonald's on Rockaway Parkway or the trips to the Bagel shop by the school. May GOD bless you and your family on this day and everyday. The world lost many great and wonderful people on that HORRIBLE day. She was definitely without a doubt one of those great and wonderful people and I will miss her forever!

I new Linda Rivera and her family for about more than 20 years, her oldest brother Alex was a close friend of my son Rafael Henriquez. I spoke to Linda's parents often when I saw them around the area where we live. Linda went to P.S. 306 in Brooklyn with my children. I use to see Linda on the bus on her way to work some mornings. Sometimes I use to see her outside with one of her pets, a dog.Linda was siting on the side walk one day with her beautiaful white dog as she waited for her brother to come out of school. WE ALL LOVED HER VERY MUCH AND WE HOPE THAT NOW SHE IS IN PEACE. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND MAY THE ANGELS CONFORT YOU WHERE EVER YOU ARE. LOVE THE HENRIQUEZ FAMILY

I went to Berkeley College with Linda. She was one of my closest and dearest friends there. We would always go to the famous "mezzanine" and chit-chat like all young girls do. The thing about Linda that I admire the most is that she was a sweetheart even if everything was going wrong, she'd still giggle and smile all day.

I lost touch with Linda after graduation. I knew she moved on and was working. On September 11, I was unaware that Linda was working at the Twin Towers. In October 2001, at Pier 94 I saw a picture that looked like Linda, because I refused to believe that it could be her. Out of curiosity, I called her mom and she did confirm that it was our sweet Linda that was missing.

Word cannot express what we feel of not being able to have aperson like Linda to brighten our daily life, day by day. But those who were honored to know her are left only with good memories like I have of her. My heart and prayers go out to the Rivera family. Remembering her today and always.

Love you chula!

I worked with Linda at Marsh Inc. Had met her only a year prior and she welcomed me and made me feel right at home. We connected instantly since we are both Latina. I miss her. I miss her giggling. Will never forget her. She laughed at everything I said even if it wasn't funny and we shared many personal stories with each other. May God be with you Linda. I came across Linda's tribute on the web, I don't know why her picture caught my eye, maybe because of its brillance emittance of what appeared to be a lovely and beautiful young lady, who had a beautiful smile. I do not know any of the victims of that unforgetable day, but I felt compelled to write this note to Linda's family to express my heart felt sorrow no words can explain or console, only prayers will eventually bring you all some sense of relief. God Bless Linda in her new kingdom of life, and all of her family and friends.

My sympathy goes out to the family and boyfriend of Linda. She was a great person. I met her at MediaAmerica, where she worked as a receptionist. The last time I spoke to her, she was exited in getting a great position with her own office and a title. I was sadden to find out that she was one of the victims missing from WTC. I will always remember the times we worked at MediaAmerica, especially the time we went to a party at the Circle Line. May God bless her soul and console her families heart.

To my friend Linda,

There are no words to describe the devastation, we, as New Yorkers, witness on that day. My memory of you is engraved in my heart....from the time I first met you in Berkeley College (Account Principal) to the last ride home after dancing the night away.

To the Rivera family I say this, it was a privilege to have known Linda. She was a beautiful person and a great & trusting friend to me.

Linda, God bless you....just remember to save one last laugh and dance for me, I'll be ready, this time! I love you buddy!

From your little buddy....Steve

I worked on the same floor with Linda, but relocated to Midtown in January. The short time I knew Linda, I saw a very special and sincere person. She was a good friend to my co-worker, Isabel. From the stories that Isabel shared with me, I know she is a angel looking over all of us. May God bless her soul and her family.

We are deeply sorry for your loss of Linda and her laughter. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
