Tatyana Bakalinskaya Obituary

Lived the American Dream

Tatyana Bakalinskaya did not love her job. But she loved where she worked.

She was a hostess at the offices of Marsh & McLennan, tending the kitchen and making sure that there was always a pot of hot coffee available. But she worked at the World Trade Center, on the 93rd floor. "For her, every day was like a vacation," said her daughter Natalie. "You could look out the window and see all of New York City. It was too good to be true."

Mrs. Bakalinskaya, 43, came to New York from Ukraine with her family in 1994 and started working at the trade center about three years ago.

The move to America was exciting for the whole family, but Ms. Bakalinskaya took to it the most. She worked out daily at the gym, went to school to become a hairdresser and when she turned 40, told everyone that her life had just begun.

Natalie Bakalinskaya, 24, a graduate of Brooklyn College who has inherited her mother's tough work ethic, said that everyone in the family — her father, sister and grandfather — has dealt with the loss in different ways.

The holidays were difficult, but the family tradition of celebrating New Year's Eve together at home was a powerful reminder of their strength. "We prepared dinner together and gave each other gifts," Natalie said. "It was hard, but because we were all together it made it a little easier."

Sending our deep sympathy to your family for your loss. Tatyana touched the lives of others and will be sadly missed and always remembered. May the time finally come when families are not separated by these acts of violence and they will be a thing of the past.

I never knew you but I promise for as long as I live I will never forget the victims of this tragedy.

9/11/2016
In a local ceremony for our 9/11 Memorial Day, they displayed over 3000 flags with names attached. After the ceremony they were selling the flags and we purchased one with Tatyana's name attached. I feel like I have a connection with her being of Ukrainian descent myself. May she be a bright star looking down on us all and I will remember her in my prayers.

On September 11, 2013, I rode in "The 2 Million Bikers to DC" memorial ride, honoring those who were lost in the 9-11 tragedy. Each rider was given a name label in honor of a victim, I was given Tatyana's name. I am having a permanent name patch made for my riding jacket, She will not be forgotten. Rest in Peace, Tatyana.

A couple months ago, I donated to a charity called Fallen2Light where 100% of the proceeds go to the children of the victims of 9/11. In return, a shirt is made with one of the people who lost their life that horrible day. My shirt had Tatyana's name on it. I looked her name up on line today so I could learn a little bit more about her. Although I never knew Tatyana, or will ever have the chance to, I will wear this shirt proudly in her honor. My heart goes out to your family and friends...RIP Tatyana.

To The Family,
It's truly a shame when a person works so hard and comes to the U.S. to have a better life and loses their life by a senseless act of violence. Obviously, Ms. Bakalinskaya went all out to care for her family. Her life is now in God's memory and therefore, she will not be forgotten by Him. God, who can not lie promises to bring righteous deceased persons back to life in a system of things where wickedness will not exist. Be there to welcome Ms. Tatyana Bakalinskaya back with the opportunity of never dying again. I offer my deepest sympathy to you.
Sincerely,
Mr. Terry of NC

I recently visited the USA on business. While I was there I went to watch San Francisco Giants play Los Angeles Dodgers. The date was 11 Sept. On entry we were each given a card with a flag of the USA on one side and the name of a 9/11 victim on the other. The name on mine was Tatyana Bakalinskaya. I was curious about the name, so I came here.
Who was it said strangers are only people you've never met.

I am pleased to say I successfully completed the 91.1 km bicycle unity ride held on September 10, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a privilege to ride in honor of Tatyana. Throughout the race, I prayed for her and her heirs and I continually thanked her for her innocent sacrifice. She will not be forgotten.

There are moments in life when you wish you could bring someone down from Heaven...and spend the day with them just one more time, give them one more hug, kiss them goodbye or hear their voice again. One more chance to say I Love you. Copy and paste in remembrance of our loved ones who are not here...gone but not forgotten

I look forward to honoring Tatyana in the 9/11 Remembrance Bike Race tomorrow in Las Vegas. This will be a difficult race for me—I've never ridden over 30 miles and this race is 91.1 km (56 miles)—but I know that Tatyana's memory will keep me strong. She is remembered for the example she set by working hard to improve her life and the lives of her family members and for her love of the New York City skyline.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
