William Caspar Obituary

Steeped in Hard Work
"A Kansas farm boy" ‹ that is how people describe William Caspar, even though he was a data processing specialist for Marsh & McLennan who could create highly detailed electronic forms.

But every summer, Mr. Caspar would return to the Kansas farm that has been in his family for five generations so he could help with the wheat harvest.

At Marsh & McLennan, Mr. Caspar, 57, would often work long hours, a habit he picked up on the farm. "You start work when the sun comes up, and you go to sleep when the sun goes down," Tony Alaimo, a colleague, quoted Mr. Caspar as saying. "That's how we were raised."

Mr. Caspar, who had been divorced for many years, spent holidays with his sister's family in Scituate, Mass. "He was a good role model to have around my children," said the sister, Margaret Richardson. For years, Mr. Caspar worked out of a Princeton, N.J., office with a small group of people who often socialized together on weekends and grew very close. They were transferred to the World Trade Center in February.

Pausing today to let Mr. Bill's family and friends know that he is not forgotten. We will never forget that horrible day when so many good people were taken from us. I pray for you to have strength and comfort.

Hi Bill,

I think of you and the others often. I close my eyes and hear you laughing! I remember your office always loaded with papers and your desk filled with sticky notes! :-) You had the biggest smile in the world, thou you were very reserved and private. I enjoyed chatting with you and hear your jokes. I miss you, as well as Joe Mangano... Bill Bethky.. and so many of the 400 others that worked with us and which lives ended that day! It is still hard to believe, Bill! It is still hard to believe! I am so sorry, my friend! You were always so kind to me in a time I needed so much! I still have the pictures we all took, few months before the tragedy, on a boat in New York, with the twin towers on the background. It is weird! All of us are laughing and happy and the towers are watching us, on the background. Well, may you rest in peace and until one day! Thank you for touching my life in such a soft way. For as long as I live, you and all the otheers NEVER will be forgotten! Big hug and kiss.

My Uncle Bill is missed.
Missed by all that he touched.
Never enough when with him and always too much lost.
His character I try to emulate and his essence passed onto my child.
He lives on.

I seen your name on the news tonight, so I googled it. One thing I noticed was how much you're still loved and missed. It's a true revelation of Love is the strongest thing in ever. I feel so bad that your life ended the way it did, none of you deserved what happen. In in the end though, you all are America's heroes, please keep sending down your love and protection, I will see you one day. God bless you and your family.

To the Family,
Even though its been almost 11 years since the terrible tragedy of 9/11, just the thought of it bears heavy on my heart. I look forward to one day when I will be able to meet all of the 9/11 victims when they are brought back to life by the Lord in the very near future. I am so sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,
Mr. Terry of NC

I worked for seven years with Bill in Princeton and we were like a close family. I always will remember his big smile and huge heart! He always had a kind word and would go out of his way to help. Very smart and intelligent, he could do anything he wanted with those printers. His office was always packed with papers that he used to save "just in case". He was reserved about his personal life but a great friend. At the time my life was very hard and he used to tell me not to quit because I was an inspiration to him. Without knowing Bill gave me so much hope. I miss you, my friend, and think about you every day when I pray and I thank God for all the great people that have crossed my life. You never will be forgotten, as long as I live. Love U. Isabel (KGB - as you used to call me. :o) )

Bill,
I miss you very much, more than you can imagine. You were (are) a great brother in law and a good friend. We had a lot of good times together and I often revisit those memories....plowing the fields, bailing hay, working in the fields..under the hot Kansas sun. You always had the ability to understand your family and gave me so much. Your visits to Scituate and the girls was always a welcomed event....we all looked forward to seeing you. I will never forget you....some day I know we will meet again.
Love, Mike

When I am dead, my dearest

When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me;
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.

I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on, as if in pain:
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Haply I may remember,
And haply may forget.

Remembering Bill and all who died on that horrific day five years ago. You are not forgotten. As we commemorate this anniversary, let's remember the unity that we felt in this country in those dark days. The sadness remains and the memories fresh. Peace and blessings to all those who lost a loved one 9/11/01. Time passes but we cannot forget.

I KNEW BILL VERY WELL, WE GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL TOGETHER IN 1962. WE HAD MANY HAPPY TIMES IN THOSE YEARS AND WORKED TOGETHER ON THE HIGH SCHOOL YEAR BOOKS. MY FAMILY HAD MOVED TO KANSAS FROM HAWAII [I COME FROM A MILITARY FAMILY] AND TO THIS DAY I'LL NEVER FORGET MY FIRST VISIT OF HIS FAMILY'S HOME. AS YOU DROVE UP THE DIRT ROAD AND GOT NEAR THE HOUSE -- YOU HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO LET ALL THE CHICKENS GET OUT OF THE WAY. IT WAS MY VERY FIRST VISIT TO A "TRUE" FARM. BUT FOR BILL IT WAS HIS NATURAL SURROUNDINGS -- SO MUCH SO -- THAT EVEN TODAY I FIND IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO IMAGINE HIM WORKING IN NEW YORK CITY MUCH LESS THE 95TH FLOOR OF THE WORLD TRADE TOWER.

BILL, HIS FAMILY AND THE MANY OTHER FAMILIES I MET IN KANSAS TAUGHT ME ONE OF THE MOST VALUABLE LESSONS OF MY LIFETIME. IT MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE WHERE YOU LIVE, HAWAII OR KANSAS, -- IT'S THE PEOPLE YOU ARE SURROUNDED BY THAT COUNT. AND LET ME TELL YOU --- THOSE PEOPLE FROM KANSAS CAN MAKE YOUR WORLD A "PARADISE".

IN MAY OF 2002 WE HAD OUR 40TH HIGH SCHOOL REUNION IN JUNCTION CITY, KANSAS. OVER HALF OF US WERE THERE FROM LITERALLY AROUND NEARLY ALL OF THE USA. [OF COURSE, THERE WERE ONLY 25 OF US IN THAT GRADUATING CLASS IN THE FIRST PLACE.] WE HAD A COUPLE OF DINNERS TOGETHER AND SAT AROUND "TO REMEMBER THE GOOD OLE DAYS". BILL'S NAME CAME UP OVER AND OVER. GOODNESS DO WE MISS HIM.

I REMEMBERED THE TIME THREE YEARS AFTER WE HAD ALL GRADUATED AND I WAS AT COLLEGE IN COLORADO. BILL AND ANOTHER FELLOW GRADUATE - TANA FIELD -- DECIDED ON A TOTAL WHIM - TO DRIVE OVER 500 MILES JUST TO VISIT ME. THEY CALLED AHEAD AND SAID THEY'D LEAVE IN A WEEK. WHEN THAT DAY CAME THERE WAS AN ABSOLUTELY BLINDING SNOW STORM BETWEEN COLORADO AND KANSAS. DID THAT STOP THEM? WE WERE ALL ONLY 20 AT THE TIME. THOSE TWO TOOK 18 HOURS DRIVING WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 8 HOUR TRIP. AND; YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN WHAT THEY AND THE CAR LOOKED LIKE BY THE TIME THEY GOT THERE!!! BUT WE WENT ON TO HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME FOR THREE DAYS AND THEN THEY DROVE HOME IN BRIGHT SUNNY WEATHER.

I'M 60 NOW. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THOSE HIGH SCHOOL DAYS SEEM LIKE A FAR OFF MEMORY OF "ACTING" 20 WHEN WE WERE 20 AND JUST SHAKING YOUR HEAD TODAY IN DISMAY OF HOW "SILLY AND FOLISH" WE WERE. THERE ARE OTHER TIMES -- LIKE TODAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2004 WHEN I SIT DOWN TO REMEMBER. THEN: "IT SEEMS LIKE ONLY YESTERDAY ---".

I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALREADY WRITTEN IN THIS LOG -- THOSE WHO NEVER KNEW BILL, WILL REVISIT HERE AND KNOW WHAT A TRULY WONDERFUL PERSON HE WAS --- AND IN EVERY SENSE OF THE MEANING.

BILL WAS ONE OF OVER 3000 PEOPLE WHO WERE TO GIVE THEIR LIFE THAT DAY -- AND WHO REMIND EACH OF US TODAY WHAT IT MEANS TO BE AN AMERICAN. YOU CAN BE FROM ANYWHERE -- AND BY CHANCE "DROP OUT OF THE SKY" INTO ANY STATE; RURAL OR OTHERWISE, --- AND 99.98% OF THAT COMMUNITY IS GOING TO BE RIGHT THERE TO HELP YOU.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I MIGHT BE ABLE TO OBTAIN ONE OF THE "MERCY BAND BRACELETS" WITH BILL'S NAME ON IT??

On Dec. 11th, my 48th Birthday, my sister gave me a "Mercy Band Bracelet" bearing the name of William O Caspar. Today is March 11, 2002, and I have worn it faithfully, and proudly everyday. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. From what I have read about him, it would have been a pleasure to know him.

I am a 21 year old nursing student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. My sister got me a stainless steal mercy band that states William O Casper WTC on it. We are very sorry for your loss of William. May his good work ethics, his life and love live on in those who love him. May the sorrow in your hearts be lightened by warm memories of times together. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Mr.Caspar sounds like he was from my family! All 6 of us learned the value of hard work & family on our farm and when we all still return to help harvest, etc. He sounds like he was a wonderful person and I want his friends & family to know that I'll be praying for them. God Bless!!
