Kyung Cho Obituary

Looking Out for Mother
In the close-knit Korean-American family, the three sisters once talked about how none of them would ever want to die before their mother because of the devastation that it would cause her. But Casey Cho, the middle sister, disappeared from the 99th floor of 1 World Trade Center; now her youngest sister is trying to do what she thinks Ms. Cho would have wanted. "I know Casey would want me to be strong," said Melissa Cho. "Casey would try to make my mother get over it."

Casey Cho, 30, shopped, traveled, wrote short stories and poems and was planning a wedding to a graphics designer next year. But she also had a strong sense of family and supported her mother, who lost her husband to a stroke seven years ago, and her oldest sister, who quit her job after becoming pregnant. The three women, and Ms. Cho's 1-year-old nephew, lived together in New Jersey. Two months ago, Casey Cho got a job doing research in the environmental claims area for Marsh & McLennan. "She was really happy," said Melissa Cho, 24. "She never had any regrets in life."

Casey, I learned about your story through an author (Min Jin Lee) who named one of the characters in her book after you. I hope you are resting peacefully.

I post my background photo of Casey's name on the memorial plaque every year on my Facebook page. Last year was my first time in New York and I visited her in person. Tears filled my eyes as I wiped the rain drops off her name. You will never be forgotten Casey. XO~

Yesterday, 1,000+ riders each rode from Woodstock, IL to the 9-11 Healing Field in Oak Brook, IL. with a lanyard that had the name of someone who died on that horrible day. I had the honor of not only riding with Kyung’s lanyard around my neck, but finding her flag amongst the nearly 3,000 flags at the field. I brought her lanyard home with me so that I will never forget neither that day nor Kyung. May she Rest In Peace.

Hello Melissa, I am sorry for your loss even as so many years have passed. I am trying to make contact with you and your family. I am a resident and board member at valley heights in Clifton where I believe kaccey lived snd I remember a tree planted in her honor , the sign for it has been removed. As a board member I want to have one put back in her honor. I did not live here until a few months after 911 although I did not know her , I was disappointed to see her sign removed. Please email me if you can, the 20th anniversary (as I am sure you are aware) is fastly approaching but maybe we can get this done to honor her memory by the tree that was planted this September.

We remember you and the other victims and heroes today. It's so hard to believe it has been fifteen years.

I didn't know your very well, and we weren't close, but I'll never forget you, your kindness, or your warmth.

They say only they good die young. In your case, that couldn't be more true. R. I.P.

Watching your photo being called this morning brought tears to my eyes... though I never knew you, it makes my heart ache to see a such a beautiful smile taken away. Before I rest on this day of sadness and remembering I will pray for you and your family. May God watch over you all.

Nature

As a fond mother, when the day is o'er,
Leads by the hand her little child to bed,
Half willing, half reluctant to be led,
And leave his broken playthings on the floor,
Still gazing at them through the open door,
Nor wholly reassured and comforted
By promises of others in their stead,
Which, though more splendid, may not please him more;
So Nature deals with us, and takes away
Our playthings one by one, and by the hand
Leads us to rest so gently, that we go
Scarce knowing if we wish to go or stay,
Being too full of sleep to understand
How far the unknown transcends the what we know.

Casey,

I found out, from a friend, a couple of days after the tragic event of 9/11 that you might have been working at the World Trade Center. I thought he did not have his facts straight. But today, which is the 2nd Anniversary of 9/11/01, I heard your name and saw your picture on the internet. The world will not be the same without you. God bless you and I know that God is taking good care of a you. I would like to say a prayer to your two sisters and mother. May God give serenity and warmth to your family. Your sincere and warm personality will be missed by everyone. You will always be in my heart and I will miss you little sis.

Love,

Sweet Casey,

my children and i lid a candle for you today but i couldn't explain why we were lighting a candle because they are still too young to understand. I showed my daughter a picture of you and jin holding her on her 100th day celebration and she asked where you were and i told her that GOD needed his angel back so u had to go to heaven to be with him....

You were indeed always looking out for your mother and often jin too....there were times when you would call me looking for her or come find us(jin's partners in crime).

Kyung, we(ji) miss you.

put in a good word for us all with the mighty one.....

Dearest Casey,

What words could be said about you that could even come close to doing justice. None that I can think of. You were such a beautiful person in this world and surely even more grand in your eternal life. Although I only knew you for a short period of time, just about a year and a half, I echo the sentiments of all the others who describe the impact you had on their lives. The common thread, an immediate connection. You were blessed with an understanding and empathy that few in this world possess. Otherworldly even in this life. Kind and understanding, always the diplomat, able to step outside a situation and see through others eyes. Gentle as a lamb, but as fierce and loyal as a lion when a friend was in need of protection.

A year later, we all still feel your loss. You brought so many people together. They are still together, a lasting testament to your memory. As this day approached I have been thinking of you more and more. Sadness creeps in, and then I remember, sadness is for those who are left behind. We can all take solace in that. You are happy, there are no tears where you are now. A year ago, such a dark day for this world, such a happy day for heaven. To have one of it’s angels return back home.

I know you’re there, I know we will all see you again. I’m certain you have already started preparing the nametags =)

With Love,

Cathy

Dear Casey:

I knew you only thorugh a picture I saw on a flyer which gave us hope in those first, stagnant, days. You seem to have a great calm and a great joy.

May blessings be upon you and your family, and thank you for putting a face to such blank horror.

Blueangel,

I never really got to know you, but I know you affected alot of people from the tributes I've seen on other websites. Your love for Life and for Music was a tribute to us all. May heaven be as beautiful to you as you were to all of us.

Godspeed.

Kaccy: I only knew you through your sister Jin Hee, whom I worked with at Bear. I would always hear her speaking to you since I sat right next to her. I know you were loved very much. Rest in peace with your Maker.

Hey Casey. I never got to meet you, though we had many mutual friends. Sadly, I only got to know you through their grief. You probably saw how upset they were that month, from up there in heaven. I wish you could have consoled them, and I wish even more that none of this had ever happened. Anyway, I hope things are going well for you in the afterlife, though from what I hear, things always go pretty well up there, n'est-ce pas? Take care of yourself, please watch out for the friends who will always love you, and if I'm lucky, maybe I'll get to meet you when I get there.

(speaking of which, if you talk to God, tell him I'm really sorry about that fire alarm thing when I was a kid, and that I hope he doesn't hold it against me later...)

yours in spirit,

n.

May warm memories of times shared with Kaccy lighten the sorrow in your hearts. May Kaccy's life and love live on in those who love her. We are deeply sorry for your loss. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

My school did a tribute celebrating the lives of many of the people who died in the Twin Towers. I did Casey's speech. Have you ever heard the song "Mama A Rainbow"? I sang that by myself-- in her honor. If her family is reading this-- e-mail me back. I'd love to see if you could come see it. She was a good person-- very good.
