Dearest Off. Smith: This past Valentine's Day would have been your 59th birthday. It is hard for me to believe that it has been over twenty years since that terrible day in September 2001. But, while a lot of time has passed, you have most definitely not been forgotten. I think of you often, and the bravery you showed on that day continues to inspire me as I go about my duties teaching first responders how to fight terrorism. Your daughter has grown up to be a most wonderful young woman--up in Heaven I am sure that you are very, very proud of her!! Take care and God Bless!1 Sincerely, Respectfully and in Christ, Dr. Ernest Evans

Dearest Off. Smith: It is hard for me to believe that it has been 19 years since that terrible day. I still think often of the courage and fortitude you showed on that day--no matter how much time God gives me in this life, I am never going to forget you. The Reverend Billy Graham used to say: "Courage is contagious--when one person takes a stand, it encourages others to do so as well." I teach first responders about terrorism as part of my academic duties--so I know that you are a role model to many of these young men and women--your courage has inspired them to their lives of service. I will be praying hard for your husband and your daughter tomorrow. Sincerely, Respectfully and in Christ, Dr. Ernest Evans

Patricia, I have read stories about you since your Mother's death--and you are clearly growing up to be a most wonderful young woman. I have prayed hard for you ever since 9/11. Officer Smith & Family,
Today I received a very special gift of a memorial bracelet. My bracelet was a special request of a member of the New York Police Department. I am elated to have received the name of not only a truly amazing officer but a female officer as well. My sister is a 20 year officer of the Santa Monica, Caifornia police department. I am so enormously proud of her and the accomplishments of her career as I am certain your family is so very proud of you as well. I am honored to each and every day wear the bracelet with your name. When people ask about my memorial bracelet I will with great pride tell them how humbled I am to honor your name and memory. I will keep your family in my prayers as I do my own sister and brother that put their lives on the line each and every day just as you did.
The Utmost of Respect, Honor and Love to you and your family

Dear Mrs. Moira Smith,
My definition of a hero is someone who is selfless. On that faithful day of September 11, 2001 you helped hundreds of people get out of the South Tower of the world Trade Center. Even though there was the risk of death, you put the needs of others before you own. To me this means you are a true hero.
Many people are very thankful that you helped them. Lots of innocent people died on 9/11/01 including you. I’m sure your husband Jim and you daughter Patricia are very proud of you. Even though you were dead you were awarded the Medal of Honor, but you didn’t do it for the medal you did it to save others. I hope your husband doesn’t miss you going to sports games or traveling with him. I also hope you daughter Patricia will always remember that her Mommy was a true hero.
I will always remember your service and so will all the people who were saved by you and I hope your legacy will live on forever. On behalf of all the people you saved thank you for the great service you did.
You are and will always be a true hero to me.
Sincerely,
Zoe Brinkmiller

I was just viewing photos taken on Sept. 11 and came across one of officer Smith escorting a survivor out of Tower 2. The caption notes that she went back in to rescue others. The courage she, and many others, displayed is beyond explanation and in some cases such as hers, beyond comprehension. What a tremendous person.

Dear Moira: I teach soldiers at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas about fighting terrorists. You are a great inspiration to me in my work, whenever I get discouraged or tired I think about your bravery on 9/11; and those thoughts give me the determination to continue my work. May God bless your husband and your daughter.

Moira,
I never met you, but doing a ride along at the 13 pct. all your fellow officers bragged about and spoke very fond words of you. Moira I'm very amazed about your compassion to help others, you are the most amazing person.
Moira you are my hero and I'm so glad God gave me the opportunity to learn who you are and the things you did in your NYPD position to help others.
I will always save a prayer for you.
Thank you Moira....Thank you NYPD

Thinking of you today and always. You made being a female Police officer that much prouder! My heart breaks for your family, and your little girl. I had a little girl that day too, and have since left the job because I can't bear the thought whenever I look at your little one with her Daddy.
Try & Rest in Peace.
A fellow police officer at the time.

Happy Memoiral Day weekend. This was such a special weekend for you and Jim. I remember how happy you were on your wedding day. I know that you'll be with us all this week as we get ready for the big day. We both miss you so much. Send us some sun if you can. You're in our hearts always.

When tomorrow starts without me
And I'm not there to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me.
I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today
While thinking of the many things
We didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me
As much as I love you
And each time that you think of me
I know you'll miss me too.
But when tomorrow starts without me
Please try to understand
That an angel came and called my name
And took me by the hand
And said my place was ready
In heaven far above
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.
But when I walked through heaven's gates
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me
From his great golden throne
He said, "this is eternity
And all I've promised you"
Today your life on earth is past
But here it starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow
For today will always last
And since each day's the same way
There's no longing for the past.
So when tomorrow starts without me
Don't think we're apart
For every time you think of me
I'm right here in your heart
Happy Mother's Day, Moira. Love you and miss you always.
