Bobby Lee Smith, beloved son, and devoted servant of history, passed peacefully into the arms of Heaven on March 12, 2026, following a short illness. He was 79 years old. Born on October 29, 1947, Bobby lived a life rich with purpose, patriotism, and a deep and abiding love for his family, his community, and the stories that bind generations together. A proud native of Shenandoah, Bobby carried with him an immense pride in his hometown and its storied place among American patriots. He was a dedicated member of the Sons of the Revolution, an organization that spoke directly to his lifelong reverence for the founding ideals of this nation. Bobby understood, perhaps better than most, that history is not merely the past but rather it is the living inheritance of every generation that follows, and he guarded that inheritance faithfully. Among his greatest joys was the pursuit of family ancestry. Bobby spent countless hours tracing the threads of family lineage, uncovering stories long forgotten and preserving them for those who would come after. His passion for genealogical research was matched only by his love of the railroad and its profound role in shaping American life. He was a steadfast champion of preserving history and honoring the times and traditions of the past. When not pursuing history, Bobby could often be found in his lawn and garden, tending the earth with the same patience and care he brought to everything he loved. He cherished quiet afternoons with a good book and - simple pleasures that brought him great contentment and peace. Bobby devoted his professional life to a distinguished career in construction, retiring with great pride as a Project Manager with Clarke Construction. His colleagues knew him as a man of steady hands, clear vision, and unwavering integrity - qualities that defined him in every endeavor he undertook.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Leon Smith; his mother, Tennie Smith; and his beloved brother, Leon "Sonny" Smith. Service & Arrangements Bobby Lee Smith will be laid to rest on Friday, March 20, 2026. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the family's McAlister Cemetery in Shenandoah, Virginia.. All who loved him are welcome to gather and celebrate a life so meaningfully and beautifully lived.
