He was one of the little kids on Butler Street and his mother's favorite child. He wasn't big enough to play with the big boys, so he refereed our street games. He was a mainstay at all the Butler Street Blues street hockey games. Our routine was when I sat at the second-floor window of my parents' home and he would pass by. He would tease me until I jumped out the window and chased him. Somehow he would make it to his house and manage to lock the door behind him. He always had that engaging smile and that sense of humor. I cannot ever remember him having a bad day.
Of course, there was 9/11. Even then, I'm sure he never saw it coming and left us with that same smile. The man in the picture left a daughter behind. His hair had grayed, but those were the same eyes. And that smile. I never met that Richie, but the one I knew stays in my heart forever.
Let us raise a glass to Richie Aceto, never to be forgotten.

May thier memory never be forgotten. Until we all meet again~
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
(Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!)

I am the daughter of Richard Aceto, and it makes me feel so good to see that others loved him as much as I still do. It's been a while since 9/11/01, but I know my daddy watches over me at night as I sleep, and I know he guides me through every aspect of my life. I am now 14 years old, and I have grown SO much. Not only on the outside, but on the inside as well. I love you daddy, and I will never forget you for as long as I live. Love your "baby girl" - Christina

This morning I watched the World Trade Center 2nd anniversary memorial on television and was so saddened and moved by Christina's tribute to her father as she read the names of the victims. Christina, you are a beautiful and strong little girl - my heart goes out to you. Take comfort in knowing your father is watching over you and he will always be with you in your heart. While I feel great sorrow for all of the victims' families, I felt compelled to express my sympathy to Richard's family and loved ones.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Aceto;
Our belated, yet deepest & heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your dear son Richard. I am sorry I found out so late after the tragedy, yet it immediately brought back endless memories of the many years Richard and I shared at St Paul's Church, working in the rectory and serving so many Masses together -- and always being my sister Mary Ann's partner in St Paul's school. I am so sorry we lost contact over the years but certain that Richard is watching over all of us now as we continue to live in his memory.

America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
