I wanted to pay my respects in some small way. Its taken me years to be able to see and read about all those we lost that terrible day. It was just too sad. It must have been so devastating for all his family and friends. I wont forget any of the victims. Bless us all.

Mr. Apostol sir, my name is Jamar Stroud and I am a firefighter with the city of Charlotte. On Sept 11, 2011 I had the honor of carrying you 110 stories in our memorial stair climb. After the climb, a couple of your brothers from FDNY told me that they personally knew you and that you were an awesome guy!
Sir, You have inspired me to become a better person. You will never be forgotten!

On this 10th anniversary of this tragedy, I've undertaken an effort to share some pieces of the lives of the men we lost on that tragic day. On my FB page "343 Days of Remembrance" I've posted some of the comments from those that knew Faustino the best in an effort to remember one fallen FDNY brother each day - not so that we can remember how they died, but how they lived.
Today is Faustino's day of remembrance on my FB site. While I did not know him, I am fortunate to have had the time to read and know what a tremendous man he was to so many, and to share how he lived with those that visit my page.
I believe it is our duty to truly remember each - it is how they will live on.

I did not know Faustino Apostol, but I know of him now and for the last 10 years, through his sister Theresa Camp.Theresa lived a few miles from the convenient store Stewart's I proudly managed in Defreestville NY,just 5 miles from Albany in upstate NY.I would save Theresa copies of The NY Post everyday,so she could keep up with the news on her fallen brother. She gave me copies of articles on Faustino and most importantly a Prayer Card from Faustino's funeral which I have to this day.I will not forget Faustino,Theresa,or other people

It's difficult to believe that three years have passed since that fateful day. Although we are all trying to adjust to living in a Post-9/11 World, we will NEVER forget. FF Apostol will ALWAYS be remembered as a true American Hero and a Shining Example of a Life Well-lived! Even though I never had the privilege of meeting him, his story has touched my life in a very special way.

Dear Family Apostel,
To all family members I wish to express my deepest sympathies. My name is Jim Lunetto and I grew up right across the street from engine 55. I had known Fausti for quite a number of years. This was no accident; he was one of the nicest and friendliest person i´ve ever met. On warm summer days we would trade stories about the neighborhood ,but mostly he spoke about his wonderful family. I could still see him jumping into the Battalion van driving to the next call. As the years passed, I moved to Berlin where I´m raising 2 little girls with my wife. I would visit my parents at least once a year. Each visit i never failed to go across the street to visit Faustino. Within 15 minutes we would explain all the important events that had taken place the past year-usually involving the children or grand-children. When I heard of his loss I was devastated. I will never forget this beautiful soul. Your family and Faustino are always in my Prayers.....
God Bless you,
Jim Lunetto

Dearest Faust, It took me over a year just to write to you. Frist of all I need to say my condelsences to your immediately family. And this is from your family at SIUH South site Thank you so much for always making me feel safe on the job. I remember the last time you worked in the E.R. It had to be around 9/7/01. And we had a combative person. I remember that you flew from your post to kept that person from hurting me. You were able to subdue him with no problem. It seems you were always there at the right time. So I believe GOD put you at the WTC at the right time. Do you realize that you and your brothers saved so many people that day. You were always a hero Faust that was your calling.Faust your family at SIUH changed that day and for some of us it will never be the same. I to lost my cousin Michael Mcdonnell on the 84 floor of building 2. But I also lost more than that I lost my hero who was always at the right place. To make us all safe.. GOD BLESS YOU FAUST AND YOUR WHOLE FAMILY. GOD HAS ONLY THE BEST IN HEAVEN RIGHT NOW. We will never forget and thank you so much.. Diane

Dear Kathleen,Justin,Christopher and family,
Just wanted you to know I was thinking of you, actually I think about you alot. I pray for you every day.
Today, while visiting my grandmother at SIU I went to the little garden and saw the dedication plaque. You must be so proud to know that Faust is remembered by so many with such love. He truly was a man with a heart of gold. I know you miss him terribly.
Every day, I think of Aunt Marie and miss her, but it comforts me to know that Faust is with her now.
I have many fond memories, of times shared with all of you and I'm grateful for that.
May God Bless You Always, Tina & Family

Dear Kathleen, Justin, Christopher, Debbie, Jenn & those precious lil boys, I think of you all daily. You are in my thoughts & prayers. I pray that you find the strength to make it thru each day.
I have many fond childhood holiday memories that include you guys. Especially the 4th of Julys. Faust was always out front making sure we were not hurting ourselves .....or each other. The hose was always ready....
I know we didn't spend a lot of time together, YET when I look back, Faust was always there. When I was a teen & my Mom was rushed to Richmond Memorial Hospital-there was Faust. A few years later it was SIUH & again, there he was. When my grandmother was rushed to the ER, there he was.
Both Kathleen & Faust came to check on me after I had each of my boys.
You- Kathleen & Fass, as I have grown up calling you- are very special people. I can still hear him calling you 'love'. It's something that has always stuck with me. His sweetness & genteelness...
Funny thing, Over this past year when I think of Faust, I think of that picture of him dressed as Santa... Thanx for sharing that with the rest of us :)
God Bless You All! I will continue to pray for each and every one of you...
Love Hugs & Kisses

Dear Faust,
I have so much to say to you but I don't know where to begin. I worked with you at Staten Island University Hospital. You were a Security Officer with me and "the guys". Never did I ever imagine you would become my friend. When I first met you, you were so quiet. Then as time went by you started to talk. Boy could you talk. The more you talked the more I realized the kind of man you were. I have yet to meet a man who was so in love with his family. I got to hear about the 2 beautiful daughters in law and the new arrivals they both were blessed with. You were amazed by these 2 woman and you truly loved them as your own daughters. I remember all the conversations about your beautiful wife and your boys and ALL THOSE PICTURES. You would be so happy the day after taking all of them out for dinner you just glowed whenever you talked about them. I knew you were someone special because you seriously knew that your family was the most important thing in the world to you. I enjoyed all our conversations and jokes. I sometimes think of some of the crazy jokes you would come out with and if I did'nt laugh you would't let it go. You would always say "Wasn't that funny, Wasn't that funny, wasn't that funny" while punching me in the arm until I finally laughed. You always made everyone around you smile and laugh. Yet, you were always humble and kind. You were the epitome of class. Even in the emergency room during a security stat, I noticed your fingernails, while you were lifting this huge violent guy up and away from a nurse. Faust your fingernails were perfectly manicured. I could'nt believe my eyes! I'm a girl and your nails looked better than mine. That's one of the things we loved about you. You were the epitome of class inside and out. You never forgot to ask how my kids and I were, even though you yourself were exhausted from working 2 jobs. You would do anything for any one. We all remember your Unmistakable voice on the hospital radio and sometimes we expect to see your smiling face come through the door or see you drive through the oval in your beautiful red car. Whenever there was a short we could always call you and you would come. Sometimes now when we are short I have to stop myself from blurting "Call Faust, he would love to come in" We all miss you so much. I hope you know how much you touched every ones life. Well Faust I hope you feel all the love flowing from our hearts on earth up to you in Heaven. I hope you are making the angels laugh and saying "Who's Got It Better Than Us!" Please watch over us down here. We love You!!
Love Rita S.I.U.H.

Faust, You and I have known each other since 1970 when we both started working on Wall St. You have been my friend and confidance all these years. You have always been here for me when I needed you. We had so many wonderful memories together. Sept. 12th was our reunion with people from our old company. How I wish we didn't keep putting it off. I don't have you here, but I'll never forget your voice and laugh. I'll never forget how you adored your wife and family. They Were the world to you. You were the only person I ever let call me Angie. You're always in my heart. God Bless You

Dearest PaPa Faust,
As the year Anniversary approaches, we are so deeply sad and empty without you. I still feel as if it just happend yesterday. I miss you, Justin misses you and I do believe Michael does too. We have kept busy, doing alot of family things with Kathy, but it is so hard. Everything we do, I can constantly here you saying things. I miss you Faust. I know I was'nt your daughter by blood, but you sure did a fine job at making feel as if I was and I THANK YOU. I know you know how I felt about you. You and Kathy opened your home to me for many years while I was working at the HIP Center. We always had so much fun. You and Kathy are the greatest. You will be glad to hear that Michael is now a Jeopardy fan. Grandma Kathy finds this funny since we all know how much you loved that show, ha ha ha. Thank you for your love and devotion to me and Michael Thomas. I will forever remember you at the hospital that night patiently waiting for Michael's arrival. How you entered labor and delivery 10 and 1/2 hours later to greet Michael Thomas and ask me if "That's it, your done?" I must admitt, as you know, this made me laugh because we always had ongoing jokes between us. Faust you and your brothers saved 25,000 people on 9/11, and you are beyond a hero in my eyes. I am greedy, I want you here now. But just knowing that you saved other children's moms, dads, sisters, brothers, friends, grandmas and grandpas gives me the strength to go on each day. You have made us so proud. Thank you for all your love and support over the years when I really needed your great advice and you delivered. I tell Michael terrific things about his PaPa Faust but it is going to take me a lifetime to really make him truely understand how brave and kind you were. We miss you, we love you and each day without you is an unbearable loss. I have to believe you are in a better place. And God knows, you earned your place there!! Forever in our Hearts, LOVE, DEBI, JUSTIN and MICHAEAL THOMAS.xoxoxo

faust was the gentelest, kindest, most caring person i ever met.i worked with him in the hospial for many years. He rented my moms summer place down the jersey shore also for many years.Faust showed up every christmas eve, with an eileens cheescake from manhattan. It got to the point where we were looking more foward to the cheescake than the holiday. If he wasnt working @ the hospital or the fire dept, he was out helping his wife foodshopping etc. they were always together and he would always stop to ask.."how are your kids" and your mom, we'd compare stories of the changes in our lives, like weddings, grandchildren on the way, hospital changes. faust loved to talk and people loved to talk to faust. god bless you kathy and boys

What a wonderful family love story and 33 years of marriage. We are deeply sorry for our nation's loss of Faustino. We thank him with all our hearts for 28 years of dedicating his life to fighting fires and saving lives. Such a strong dedication comes with a brave, warm and caring heart filled with love for mankind. May Faustino's courage, life and love continue living in all who love him and in those who have been touched by his life. I know by reading his story, he has touched my life and a part of Faustino has become a part of me and a part of each American. May you always feel his love radiate warmth into your hearts. May the sorrow you feel be lightened by golden memories of moments shared with Faustino. My heart cries deeply with you in America's loss of a hero.
America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

My condolences go out to the Apostol family. I didn't know Faustino, but I did know his son Chris years ago. We've lost touch since then, but when I read about the loss of his dad, my heart broke for him and his family. Being married to a NYC Firefighter myself, I know how heroic they all were that day in September.
My deepest sympathies to you all.
