George Apostol Obituary

George Apostol

April 23, 1935 ~ August 4, 2025

George Apostol, 90, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025. He died from complications of age, a condition he refused to accept. His family is grateful that he enjoyed vibrance and health up until his final months.

George grew up in Bingham Canyon, the youngest of three children, to Christ Apostol and Grace Luella Abplanalp. His Greek heritage was something George and his posterity took great pride in. George was doted on by his older siblings, Faye and Chris. He often reflected with fondness on the many friendships he made in his youth, and enjoyed working in his dad's grocery store. He loved playing baseball, basketball, and football at Bingham High. But the greatest gift from his time in Bingham Canyon was meeting the love of his life, Frances Jeniel Boren.

George graduated from the University of Utah, with a degree in Business Management. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. George and Jeniel were married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 29, 1958. After his Army service they settled in Midvale, Utah, where George owned an Arctic Circle and then Superior Disposal. George and Jeniel were blessed with daughters: Georgann, Jill, Annette, and Estella Pino, whom they considered one of their own. His family was the joy of his life.

George had a strong belief in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His personal relationship with Christ could be felt by those around him when he prayed or read the Christmas story aloud from the book of Luke. Christmas was always magical in his home. He was a generous gift-giver and loved giving a good surprise.

Besides his family, perhaps the biggest legacy George will leave is one of service. He could often be found quietly helping others. He served in many capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Home Teacher, Bishop and counselor in the Midvale Stake presidency. In his army discharge letter, George's colonel said it best: "I have found George to be a man of integrity and honor, and one who upholds the highest ideals and habits…I consider him an exemplary individual."

George is survived by his wife Jeniel Boren, and his daughters Georgann (Todd) Lloyd, Jill (Mark) Kelly, and Annette (Mark) Anderson, as well as 14 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and grandson Reed Anderson.

A viewing will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at the Midvale 7th Ward, 8350 S. Jackson St., Midvale. Interment to follow services at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd., Sandy.

George was a neighbor and dear friend to my mother, Kay Christensen (and us during our childhood) for the many years they lived in Midvale. We loved his genuine smile when seeing us, his warm-hearted caring, and his service to us in his church callings and as an everyday disciple of Christ. Love and prayers for comfort to his family from Clay, Laurie and Cory Christensen

I knew George and Jeniel as a young couple and friends of my mom and dad. Later we were neighbors in the ward but my memories of George center around my first work experience as a teenager at Apostles Arctic Circle where I observed the leadership, dedication, hard work and kindness of George. I loved working there and learned so many lessons from him. He had a profound influence on me and I loved that man! My heart felt condolences to his family.

My deepest condolences to Jeniel and family. I wish you all the best. Even though Geoge was younger. The Bingham High School family knew all in those days.

The Petrlich Family sends condolences to your family .
We live just down the street on Coolidge St. We are avid bike
riders and we would pass by
George and Jeniel on their bikes many times . Jeniel fell on her bike on day right in front of our home and I ran to help . George
Went and got his truck to take her home . She did get injured and then we would see George still riding. We had many friendly talks.
He was a very special person.
Fly high on your next adventure.

Growing up in Midvale, we used to walk to the Arctic Circle for treats. We didn't say we were going to the Arctic Circle we were going to Apostol's. it was bit of a walk from home, but times were different then. Great Memories.
