Thomas Brennan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 5, 2001.
Rock Tunes and Giggles
When Jennifer Brennan was pregnant with her first child, her husband, Thomas M. Brennan, would play Grateful Dead tapes loudly, hoping the music would reach the ears of his unborn daughter. When the baby kicked, as she invariably did, Mr. Brennan was delighted. She, too, he would say, was a fan.

On the last day he spent with his family, the Sunday before Sept. 11, Mr. Brennan, 32, played Grateful Dead compact discs in the car as the family shopped for furniture for their new house in Scarsdale in Westchester.

Strapped to her car seat, Mr. Brennan's daughter, Catherine, now 19 months, laughed and moved to the music. And that is how Mrs. Brennan would like to remember her husband: as the only person who could make their daughter giggle uncontrollably.

With his wife pregnant with the couple's second child, a boy who was born last month, Mr. Brennan took on many of the child care duties. He often got up early with his daughter, fed her breakfast and carried her when she needed a hug.

Mr. Brennan, an investment banker with Sandler O'Neill, treasured the time with his family, in part because he traveled constantly for work. Tuesday, Sept. 11, was the only day of that week he was scheduled to be in the office.

In reading Tom's bio on his memorial website I realized I share the same exact birthday with him. Though I didn't know him personally one thing we have in common is the ability to laugh! May God continue to bless Mr. Brennan's family and we will never forget him or the lives lost on that day. Many blessings!

I am Marie, a 64 year old grandmother of 4. I live in Southington, and tonight I attended a tribute to the victims of 9/11. I chose Tom Brennan as the person I prayed for all day.

I never knew Tom, but wanted you to know that he was in my prayers today.

May God Bless his family.

When I would come over to play with your brother John when we were kids, you were a pain in the butt. I ended up marrying a GCHS and BC grad, so i guess the joke's on me. I pray for you often, Tom!

I bought a commemorative bracelet a while back to remember someone directly from 9/11... I am now just finding the courage to search the name and identify my previously unknown friend.

I am pleased to read about his life and his passions for work and family.

Godspeed,

Dear Jennifer,

I happen to discover this web site. My thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy are with you and your family. God bless you and your children.

We attended St. Bernadette School together. You were a few years ahead of me. You used to live around the corner from me growing up.

I just want you to know that I am thinking of you.

Love, Kathleen

Dear Mrs. Brennan,

I went to GC High with Tom. When I heard that he had been in the tower the first thing that I remembered about him was how kind he always was to everyone. He always had a smile on his face. I will always remember him walking through the halls in his "hippie" attire. When I read his tribute page, I couldn't help but smile because I knew he hadn't changed. I was so happy to hear that he has a daughter and a son who will continue his legacy. Even in heaven I know that he will always be by your side and his childrens.

Hello Mrs. Brennan,

I had the pleasure of meeting Tom at a Federal Home Loan Bank conference at Hilton Head Island in 2000. During the course of our conversation, I found out that he was a BC alum...and my daughter had just chosen BC to start college. I was full of doubt and concern...and he made it all go away. He told me you were also from BC.

He was right. BC has been an excellent experience for my daughter.

We stayed in touch after that and we were fortunate to have had him visit us in Miami.

I hope all is well with you and your children.

Hi Jennifer and all,

I stumbled across this site quite by accident. What a beautiful tribute! I am continually amazed by your strength and courage. Dorothy updates me frequently on how you are all doing, and I think of you often. My love and thoughts are with you. I really regret that I didn't have a chance to know Thomas better, but you and the children hold a special place in my heart.

Lots of love,

Kathy Kuntz (Doug's wife)

Dear Jennifer:

I have wanted to reach out to you so many times since September 11, 2001. I really didn't know how. It was too hard for me. A friend of mine just told me about this internet site. I saw Tom's face, for the first time, and knew it was time to reach out to you. I have heard such wonderful things about Tom. Now, I can put his nice face with the name. We are so saddened by your loss. May God bless you and your daughter and son. They are so very blessed to have you as their mother. I have such fond memories of you; maybe we will meet again at IHM or somewhere one day. With love, Cynthia, Roy, Jack Michael and Brendan Rothman

We are very sorry for your loss of Tom. May warm memories of times together lighten the sorrow in your hearts. May Tom's life and love live on in you. May you always feel the warmth of his love radiate into your hearts. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
