Anthony Luparello Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 6, 2001.
Lunch and a Phone Call

For the 14 years that he was a maintenance worker at Aon, Anthony Luparello called his wife, Geraldine, every day at 1:45 p.m., the end of his lunch break. "Just to let me know what's going on," Mrs. Luparello said. " `What are we getting for dinner? What did you do? Who did you hear from?' "

And when the evening buses got him home to Corona, Queens, later than usual, he would be very upset. "He felt it was his time home to be with me, and he shouldn't be sitting on a stupid bus," she said. "I would tell him, `What's the matter that you are home late? You came home safe.' "

Mr. Luparello, 62, was equally serious about his work. Every morning, he got up at 3:30 to start work at 6 a.m. "He'd rather be half an hour early than be stuck in traffic," his wife said. "He would never take a day off. Headache, flu, cold, you name it. He went to work.

"I would ask him, `Tony, is the tower going to fall without you?' It was just a joke. But you know, it came down with him."

I knew this wonderful man as a child. He and his family lived on the same block as us. I remember he always had a smile that would light up a room. He was a generous man and he loved his family beyond words. It’s been 20 years however is feels like 20 minutes. It was an honor to have grown up with him in our lives. May he continue to Rest In Peace and Tony..please continue to watch over your family. You would be so proud of the legacy that you left behind. Say “hello” to Laura Dean.

I remember the day of Joe and Maria's wedding. He was so nervous. He just wanted the day to be perfect for his daughter. He didn't want to be the one to do anything wrong. It was so cute. Btw, as most know everything was just perfect.

Tony loved his family and loved children. He was a fixture at FM Corona Park to watch the St Leo teams compete. For me who’d umpire games, he’d be at the backstop to chat between innings. He was generous with his talent and time and is very much missed by all of us. May he shine forever in the light of the Lord, until we meet again.

I only met Mr. Luparello ...once. At Maria and Joe's Wedding. I have to say the best time to meet the man. He was smiling non stop, he was laughing, he was funny and he was...proud. Ken knew him better, he remembers his smile, his accent...and his gestures...much like a man of the old country. I wish we knew him better but happy we knew what we did know....how he loved his wife, his kids, his job, his community and his country! Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and friends always but more now during this time of year.

I never knew Tony but when you see the list of names from 9/11, you can't ingnore hearing someone with the same family name. This isn't a Smith or a Jones. This was a Luparello from Sicily, the same as my great-grandparents. Now on the anniversary of this horrific event, I am reminded of a "relative" that I was never given the chance to know. I am truly sorry for the family and their loss. I would like to get in touch with anyone of Tony's family memebers to express my great sorrow. I never knew you Tony but from what I've read I am sorry that I never will.

Tony,

I saw your wife a few days ago, and I had seen a number of times since the tragedy, but the last time I saw her all I could think about was you and how you loved her. I couldn't get you out of my mind and decided to search for you on the internet. As I read each tribute, I couldn't believe how each person had captured your essence, they felt you, they went inside you. Everything, from Melissa's reference to the snails "the babluca" (I remember when you showed us the snails in the grocery store next to the bakery.) I remember Gerri with the two boys in the stroller walking to the bakery "down the station" and you rolling the breadsticks. It seems like yesterday, but it was a lifetime ago.

You are a beautiful loving man, and the way you placed your wife and your family before yourself is an inspiration to me. Your light shines on all of us. I know you can hear us. My sister captured you so in her entries, you left all of us with vivid pictures of you. The last time I saw you, you were letting your grandaughter comb your hair, you were tired and you really didn't need your hair combed, but your expression said "if it makes her happy."

Well, you made me happy tonight, just thinking of you and I know it's been said before, but the way you lived your life is lesson and an example for all of us.

My love to you always and forever.

I have known Tony Luparello since I was 17 months old. I lived upstairs from him and his family until I was 17 years old. He watched me grow from a little brat to a big brat and I always considered him a part of my family. I remember spending holidays with them and always having a great time and eating the great food he cooked. When I was little, he made me eat a snail and I will never forget that. I remember him telling me that it was going to make me big and strong if I ate it. Tony was such a good hearted, loving, friendly person. He didn't have a bad thing to say about anyone. He loved his wife and family more than anything else in the world.I have a lot of memories about him and they will stay with me forever. He was a great man and I am very proud to say that I knew him and had the chance to have him in my life. May he rest in peace and God bless his family.

I knew Tony all my life. I saw him as a hardworker and a total family man. He was a lot of fun to be around and could always catch him smiling. He was a good person that you only would wish the best for.

Some memories are coming over his house and always finding fun conversations and family to eat and chat with.

I always heard that Tony was great at decorating cakes. That is something I have always had in interest in. I always told my nana that one day I was going to ask Tony to show me some of his decorating tricks. My nana thought the world of him. I loved the way he pronounced his wife's name "Gerr-rall-dine" with that Italian accent. His always said it with such feeling.

No family should endure the pain that you have had to go through. I pray for you every night and wish every day that you will find peace in your hearts.

I remember the great time he had at our wedding.

I met Tony many years ago when Aon relocated to the Trade Center. I worked on the 105th floor of Tower 2.

Tony would always stop by my desk and we would share laughs and tell stories of our families. I always had candy or cookies for him. He was such a delightful man. You should be so proud of what a good, hardworking and loving person he was.

I just recently was able to look at the pictures and stories of the many people I worked with and cared about.

I was the woman who gave Tony the Angel Doll. He said that you, his wife, would love it. I hope the Angel brings you some peace.

I haven't been back to work since 9/11. I guess my Guardian Angel got me out of the building that day.

I am truly sorry for your loss and hope this message is of some comfort to you.

May God Bless Tony and his family.

To the Lupariello Family - I worked at Aon for 7 years and was privileged to know Tony the whole time I worked there. He was always accommodating and sensitive, and never failed to come to my aid when I needed his help. It was always "please get Tony help me..." with any maintenance problem I had -- Tony would come running and always made it right! He was smiling and cheerful whenever I saw him. I was in charge of the Aon Gift supplies and Tony particularly liked the "Aon" pens because he said his family would love to have one to show them where he worked. I gave a few and he was so very thankful. We miss you terribly, Tony! May God keep you in his care and know that your friends at Aon will always remember you with delight.

I had the honor and pleasure of knowing you since I was 6 months old. You and Gerri helped me so much to become the person that I am today. I love you like an Uncle. I will never forget and cherish all that you did with me as a child (Met games, trips to Rockaway Beach and Playland, Bronx Zoo and so much more, I could go on forever). I will especially cherish our dance on my wedding day. We had so much fun.

I was so excited when we were relocated to the Trade Center because I would see you more often. You really loved and took pride in your job. I was always so proud when you would tell everyone our story of how we know each other and it always brightened my day when you would come and visit me at my desk.

You were taken too soon but you touched so many lives, especially mine. The world, your family and friends will never be the same without you. You were a kind, gentle, caring, considerate, compassionate and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to everyone who knew you. You would go out of your way for anyone. I’m so lucky to have had you in my life. Your memory will live in my heart for eternity. GOD BLESS YOU! REST IN PEACE MY DEAR FRIEND!

I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU SO MUCH!

We are deeply sorry for your loss of Anthony. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

I worked at Aon for 5 yrs at 2wtc and left in Feb of 2000. Over the course of those years I often saw Tony around. He was such a hard worker. He always took the time out to smile and share a laugh. I am so sorry he didn't make it out safely. You can bet Tony was helping others during this tragedy. His family should be very proud of the life he lived. I pray that he is at peace. God bless such a dear soul.
