Remembering Larry on the 20th anniversary of 9/11...

I knew Larry from J.F.K.H.S. in Bellmore. He was a few years younger then me but he was a really nice guy. I was horrified when I heard the news about the 911 attacks and even more so when I found out that a person I went to school with and actually befriended, had perished in the attacks. Every year since, when they read the names of the victims, I shed a few tears when they come to Larry's name. REST IN PEACE, LARRY. You are missed by family, friends and co-workers.

I went to West Hills Day Camp in Huntington Long Island, with Larry. I can recall Larry was a likeable camper, always offering to share his fruit of the day. Known as the Beck-o-meister, he is missed.

I share your last name and when I found you on the list, I just had to read about your life. You sound like a great man and that you are greatly missed by your family. Every year I am touched by the long list of names from the 9/11 tragedy. I can only imagine what it must be like to miss people such as yourself. May God bless and comfort all of your family and friends through the years. May you never be forgotten.

Dear Larry
I suppose you are sleeping there where you are at this point in time. I can't believe the time has gone by so fast. Just want you to know Larry, and pass it around up there, they caught the murderer known as "Osama Bin Laden!" U.S. Navy Seals did so you can rest assured you sent the Seals to the right door Bin Laden cowered behind... Thanks for that. The Freedom Tower shines up to all of you there, now together. Perhaps you can see it?
Your family may see you in all they do. Visit with them soon, now... Rest in Peace ...
Your friend through the family, Greeberg.

It's always the special ones that seem to depart much too soon. Oh yeah, Larry was special. Loving, kind, thoughtful, trusting, maybe too trusting. Living across the street allowed me the honor and privilege not only to spend time watching Larry grow up, but also to baby sit him and his little brother. I often think of the hundreds of times he would pedal his bike over to me, say hello and ask how I and everyone else were doing. I do the same thing everyday, and it's one heck of a gift! I hope to thank him when we meet again.

I was an eskimo dancer that performed with Larry in his "Larry Beck's Alaska" revue..there were Tshimsham dancers there too..He asked me where I was from and he told me that he grew up with my father Elmer Goodwin in Kotzebue...they actually built a snow machine out of old washing machine parts...

I grew up on Susan Road 2 houses down and across the street from Larry. While I wasn't always the best, I was his friend. Most of Susan Road who will read this entry know about how Larry and I first met. Strange how friendships and close ties begin. When I heard he was gone I was in shock. What did he ever do to deserve to be there on that day? As usual every year on this day I think about him and I weep. I wish I stayed in closer touch with him. I wish I helped out more when I could have. I wish he knew me as the person I am now. I wish he could meet my kids. I think he would have loved that. I miss him.

I had the privilege of knowing Larry growing up in Bellmore together. Years later I ran into him when he was working for an insurance company I did business with. We had lunch several times and and shared stories of times past. When I heard how we lost him I cried. A wonderful soul who was kind and funny was senselessly taken away from us too soon. I miss you Larry

When I would be free, Larry Beck as flight, the long Avenue in Bellmore to Ilene I would run along...How, Ilene was my comfort...In our life we did collide...Larry Beck...You and I...Intersected, by a bond and friendship, of, your Family, and myself...Though, crossing of our path's, ever, is separated by your Flight to Eternity...so soon...May one day our path's Intersect yet on another Avenue...'til again our paths collide...Larry Beck...Always will our path's have Intersected...in our life...
To All, that, recall on the days, All together...rain down, Peace and Love and fond memories to your Family, through the corridors of time 'til you reunite....God, I, prithee, to calm your Burden and Sorrow to Hope and Song. I will Never forget to always remember...Deborah Paler

I grew up with Larry living across the street from me in Bellmore, LI. He was a few years younger than I and I would play "school" in front of my house; I was the teacher and Larry was one of my "students". Those were some fun memories!
Whenever he saw me, my brother, my mom or dad walk out of the house, he always said hello. The only one he wasn't fond of was our dog Candy :)
I think of him often and am still in disbelief that something like this could have happened to him. If I can say one thing it would be that he is truly a part of the world's history and his name will be forever in the books and records of a time that none of us will ever forget.

I met and worked with Larry from 1989-2000 at his previous job in Jericho, NY and I thought I didn't know anyone who worked in the WTC. When I found out he did, I was so sad. He was a nice guy and I enjoyed working with him and I would like to send my condolences to his family and friends.

A Reminiscence
YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.
May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.
Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;
To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.

Today we had a service at my all-girls catholic high school. When we arrived, we all got a name of someone who died during the tragedy. When I read my name, Larry Beck, I finally realized that each and every one of the people who died had a family, friends, and people who cared about them. I thought it was important for you to know that even though I never met Larry, and even though I'm a teenager halfway across the country, that I still greive with you and plan to say a prayer for Larry every day for the rest of my life.

I will always love and remember you. I can still recall how happy your mom was when you were born and how I held you in my arms. There is just no reason why hatred should have been carried to this terrible extreme. I will remember you as a true mensch. My prayers are with you, today and always.

America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
