Hi,I'm Camryn. In school we're researching people who lost their lives during the attack in 2001. I was given Michael to research! I've read what people have posted & they have really touched me.Michael seemed like such a caring, selfless & honorable man. I'd love to know more about him, so if you have anything you'd like me to know about Mel or something that you'd think would help me know his story please contact me.I know this might be hard & emotional for you, but you& your family are in my prayers & thoughts.

I met Mike at FDNY Rescue School. I was a Captain at Rescue Company 1 in Jersey City, N.J. and invited by FDNY to attend the class. There wer about 60 students (FDNY, FDNY EMS, and JCFD) in the class. Mike stood out amoung the members of the class. He was a very knowledgable, talented, friendly, and proud to be a firefighter in NYC. He also had a great sense of humor and knew how to get his fellow firefighters to smile or laugh when they need it most. Although I only met Mike during that class on "the rock", it was an honor to work beside him and I will never forget him. God bless you Mike. You and your family are in my prayers.

September 12, 2010
Dear Uncle Michael,
Guess what? It's your biggest fan! your niece BriAnna. Well im all grown up now! I'll be turning 16 in April and now I'm a sophomore in high school! Woah i know right? Well its actually been quite sometime since i last saw you. You were all i thought about everyday. I cried more than you can even imagine, but I learned that crying would bring you back. I still think about you today. When I was 7 and told you about the picture I have of you on my dresser, guess what after 8-9 years later your still there right next to Grandma Rosie. Your always in my thoughts and prayers. You and Grandma. I miss the both of you very much. For some reason I always thought of you as my favorite uncle, and I still do. I miss how you always used to play games with me and we would always goof around and when you would chase me around Grandmas house and tickle me as i laughed. Remember how I always called you Uncle Poopy head? Me and you would always goof around like that. GiAnna and Nicolette got big now too. They miss you a lot. We all miss you. Maybe one day we can play like we used to in heaven. Even though I'm much older now. I wish you were here but at least i know I have an amazing guardian angel watching over me. I know and feel that your always with me. And don't worry, I will never ever forget you. Rest in the sweetest peace Uncle Michael. I hope I'll see you soon.
I Love You Forever
your Niece

To Mrs. Esposito, Michael, and Andrew, I learned your story recently. I've been reading Thomas Von Essen's book Strong of Heart. On page 234 Andrew is quoted. I was so moved to read that Andrew, who lost his own father, felt it was his duty to attend the memorial service for another firefighter from his father's unit. I Googled Michael's name to learn more about him. I have the greatest love and respect for firefighters and police officers because they not only risk their lives every day, they are also Samaritans when off duty. They are always looking to help someone in need--by holding a holiday toy drive, collecting food for the local soup kitchen or food pantry, selling calendars to raise money for a camp for children who have suffered burns (and donating their vacation time to work at the camp), working as waiters for an evening or two and donating all their tips to charity, even donating their bone marrow to save the lives of children with cancer of the bone marrow, to name just a few of their charitable efforts. One of my most vivid memories of 9/11 is TV footage of the subway, which was plastered with posters of the missing. On one poster someone wrote, "Every day I see you smiling. I miss you. We never met." Reading about Lieutenant Esposito and seeing his picture has had the same effect on me. I've printed out the New York Times spread of photos of all the firefighters who gave their lives on 9/11 and saved it in an album. My heartfelt thanks for sharing your memories--and for giving me this opportunity to say, "I care."

while I was only a kid I did not get to know him well, I spent my summers hanging out with his son mikey in florida. He was the only one of the 343 that I knew. But he was the first person that I thought of as things happend. I cannot express my saddness for the great loss that you family and the world has expirienced. It has had a great impact on me and my choice of profession. I hope the family is doing well. The last time I hung out with Mikey was the summer of 2007 at his grandma's in new smyrna I hope things are working out for you, if you want to please write your friend Dane

Thank you Michael for your courage and bravery. Even though I did not know anyone personally that was lost on 09/11 I feel grief and sorrow for the loss of life. You are truly a hero and you will never be forgotten.

Michael's family -
My prayers and condolences go out to you and your firefighter family. I can't even imagine your loss. My father is a retired firefighter and feel that the loss of any firefighter is the loss of a "brother." Anytime my dad sees a uniformed firefighter on the street or in a restaurant, he nods at them or goes up to talk to them. They all share a connection. It's a brotherhood that cannot be broken. I reach out to your family and wish you well and peace, as part of my family.
I have a special "interest" in Lt. Esposito because after 9/11 I purchased a memory bracelet. Only one was made for each person lost on 9/11. I wear Lt. Esposito's and pray for him and for your family - my extended firefighter family.
Take care-

I had the pleasure of growing up with Mike in South Beach. Even when we were young Mike was one of the best guys in the neighborhood. I can remember him so clearly always happy, smiling and laughing. I cherish the memory of the last time I saw Mike at the 9/9/99 party in the Surf Club. He is one of the greatest guys ever to come out of South beach. My prayers go out Denise and the kids and to all the Espositos.

To the Esposito family. I am a firefighter from southern California. I, like all across the nation are saddened by the loss of our brothers. My family and I sponosored a Tribute statue in Michael's honor that hopefully reached you and your family. I never met Mike, but I knew him well. He was a firefighter, and a brother to so many like him. My wife and I were in New York for the memorial in October. We were lucky enought to be in Madison Square Gardens during the service. A tear was shed when Michael's name was called and his picture displayed. His picture hangs on the wall of my fire station with his fallen brothers. Good luck to you and God Bless. I wa going through tis guest book and realized no one from The South Shore Staten Island Y was represented...so I wll.
Somtimes it seems relationships, at a gym, is somewhat superficial...alot of "how's it going?" "what's new?" Yet..this Y was different...People looked you in the eye and waited for a response.
That was Mikey. Smiling...always joking between sets...and it wasn't forced...you knew he was real.
I know he gave a lot of laughs to the "Y" members...it was tough not to smile when he was around..cause his smile was infectious...and you know it was REAL...he was enjoyng his life and the smiles he brought to others.
I left Staten island a month before 9-11...I still miss my days at the South Shore Y cause of people like Mikey.
God bless.

Dear Mrs. Eposito,kids and family..
last year after the 9/11 attacks a lot of schools around where I live started to sell bracelets that had police officers and firefighters names on it.(all of the bracelets had different names on it) I decided to by one so I could always wear it and be reminded of 9/11 and how lucky I am to be safe and alive. I happened to buy the bracelet that said michael esposito on it. I've seen his picture a lot. There was a U2 concert on TV..I think it was sorta like a memorial for 9/11 and they had a big screen of all the firefighters/policemen that passed away and I saw his picture on the screen. I'm 15 years old and I've wanted to be a firefighter since I was 4 years old. after 9/11 it just made me want to be a firefighter even more..well, mrs esposito and family,I just wanted to let u know that I have his bracelet.it's silver and has an american flag next to his name.I wear it everyday..if you would like me to send it to you so u can keep it I'll be glad too. my prayers are with you and on sept. 11 I will light a candle for mr eposito because, even though I didn't know him, he seemed like a wonderful man and he's a real HERO. god bless all of you.please let me know if u want the bracelet.

Hello,
A local grocery store held a charity where you could sponser victims of the Sept. 11th attacks by purchasing and putting the name of a victim, along with your own, on a balloon. I had the privalige to chose my own name and after looking through the many names I finally came down to one... Lt. Michael Esposito. I have never met him, and unfortunatly never will, but I just wanted to send my condolences to the family of the person I chose. He along with the many others will be missed.

I am a French firefighter who had the honor and the pleasure to meet Michael at several occasions where I stayed a few times thanks to my friend Don HAYDE who was the captain of the company.
Every time I enjoyed great moments and nice talks with Michael who was an example for his men, a great firefighter.
I am so sad for your loss but wanted to let you know that he is missed even accross the ocean and remembered as a true hero.
I am very proud to wear a bracelet with the name of Michael.

To The Esposito Family,
Nothing could be greater than being called "an ordinary guy"! I never met your beloved Michael, but what speaks volumes about a man is what is said after he leaves this world to live with God.
Your wonderful Michael may have been an ordinary guy, but on September 11, he was brave, a hero, self sacrificing, fearless...the list could go on forever!
I am sorry for the loss of your beloved Michael. He will forever remain in my thoughts and prayers as will you, his friends, and fellow comrades who were left behind to carry on without him.
I am so sorry for your loss.

I had the honor and privilege of coaching our sons in Great Kills Little League with Mike. He was as genuine a person that you could ever meet. All we ever did was laugh and have fun with the kids. In one practice, he was demonstrating hitting to the kids, he put on one of the kids batting helmets. The helmet was about 4 sizes too small - so he looked like "The Great Kazoo" from the Flintstones...... When he realized we were laughing at him- he wore it all the longer.
He is an absolute hero.
He will be greatly missed. My prayers are for Denise, Andrew, & Mikey

Mike was really a great guy! He coached the baseball team of which I was the manager in GKLL. You could tell by the way he treated the kids that he had life in perspective. Whenever I took the game a little too seriously, Mike was there to calm me down. Sometimes he would just point at me and laugh; Other times he would joke with a nervous batter or pitcher by saying "Hey Espo (He called his own kids, Andrew and Mike - "Espo") out of all the ugly kids on this team, you're definitely the best looking." Or "Joey, listen to me 'cement head', you're doing great out there."
He gave out bags and bags of candy. The kids all loved him.
Just before our final game, he suggested that we pray as a team. He said "LORD, just let us have a good time, and keep us safe."
We didn't keep in touch during the off season, but not a day goes by that I don't think about Mike.
I miss him alot, but I know that one day, when I get to heaven, one of the first people I'll look up will be Mike Esposito!!!

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
