Robert is never forgotten. Today we celebrate his life and remember his courage, service to others, and willingness to answer the call for help which resulted in his passing. May God provide those he loved peace and comfort. May you always rest in peace with your fellow firefighters. God bless

Rob is my cousin. I went with his mom & sister and a couple of friends to the 20th anniversary memorial service and celebration of his life and the life of all those who we lost that day. I say "celebration" because even though its a day of tremendous sadness for so many, it is also a celebration of the beautiful souls we lost that day. God bless each and every one of them and WE WILL NEVER FORGET

Former Captain of the USS New York (LPD 21), 2012-15. I retired from the Navy in 2019. I met Christina and Jeanne in 2013, when the ship was in New York City for Veteran´s Day. They were on a special tour of the ship for the families of 9/11 victims. We spoke briefly and Jeanne handed me an envelope that contained Bobby's memorial card. I spoke of him often while assigned to that ship. I still have that card and think about Bobby every year on this day. God Bless him for his sacrifice for all of us.

What can you say about Bob that hasn't already been said. He had a smile that would light up the room. Can't help wonder what he'd be up to now...would he be married and have a few kids? He'll always be missed.

Hello,
I just heard Bobby's name read and saw his picture on TV during the 911 Memorial Service this morning. I didn't know Bobby, but when I saw he was from Franklin Square, and being a native Franklin Square(er) myself, I want to express my deep condolences to you, his family, for your great loss. I lost a child when she was only 11, and I know the pain runs so very deep... 14 yrs. today... more like 14 days ago, right? I scrolled through some of the comments left here. Sounds like he was a wonderful guy, son, friend, jokester... May peace, comfort and strength find its way into your hearts and lives... right into the very places within you that are still smarting or empty because of his passing. If you find you'd like support at this time (and I'm sure there were tons of loving people to help you along the way), please check out GriefShare.org. I ran a group for many years. Sincerely, Cindy Griffiths

I had the honor of knowing bob growing up,hanging out at Polk st. He was a fun kid everyone loved him. I moved from Franklin square . Before 9 /11 ,finding out years later, bob had become a fireman and was at the towers. When I think of all the brave ,bob is always in my hart. Today is 9-11-2015 as always I sit and watch the memorial sessions, and shed a tear for all,I will see bobs name on the screen say a pray for him,. When I hear those words never forget. I think of bob and smile about the good memories of being young and knowing him!

Friends and Family of Bobby,
Each night onboard all U.S. Naval Vessels at sea, the ship's Chaplain will pray over the 1MC (loudspeaker) 5 minutes before Taps (lights-out). Since joining the ship eighteen months ago, our Chaplain (Lieutenant Justin Bernard) has added to his nightly prayers, a short prayer by name for the families of one fallen firefighter. He has been going through the list of 343 alphabetically and last night was Bobby's night. Chaps was kind enough to allow me the honor of saying Bobby's prayer.
We on NEW YORK are with you. Our ship will continue taking the fight to the enemy in honor of Bobby and 342 of his brothers who perished with him that day. God bless you all.
"Strength Forged Through Sacrifice...NEVER FORGET!"
Captain Christopher "Bruno" Brunett
December 12, 2014
On February 14th, 2014, I took command of the USS NEW YORK (LPD 21) and placed Bobby's memorial card in my uniform chest pocket, close to my heart. For the past ten months, with the exception of just a few days, it has been there ever since.
When times are tough and the burden of command heavy, I pull out his card and find strength. When new Sailors check aboard, I use his card as a symbol of our countrymen who died in the towers that tragic day -- especially our brave first responders -- and what an honor it is to be part of a ship that memorializes them. When special guests visit the ship, I pull out his card and tell his story. I am comforted knowing he is with us and looks over me.
Yesterday, USS NEW YORK left to deploy overseas and will not return until sometime next summer. I have about six more months in command of this magnificent warship -- all of it will be spent in harm's way executing our mission.
As we steam east to protect America, I want those who loved Bobby to know that his legacy lives on. He is one of nearly 3000 souls who are part of this ship and now part of me. I will forever be grateful for the day I met his sister Jeannie in New York and learned about her brave and selfless brother, who gave his life for all of us. May we NEVER FORGET his sacrifice.
"Strength Forged Through Sacrifice...Never Forget!"

Back in the 80's, I went on one date with Robert to see the Monster Trucks at Madison Square Garden. We had a fun time that night but I was considerably older than him, so I decided it wasn't a relationship that would go anywhere. We were in different stages of life. I was looking for commitment and he was still spreading his wings and growing up. We never dated again. Over the years I would hear how he was doing from his cousin, Maureen and I was so glad to hear he was a fireman & was engaged to be married. Maureen & I went toa St. Patty's Day parade in the late 90's & we actually saw Robert marching by with his fire battalion, with his sparkling eyes and big smile. It was so nice to see that he had filled out and had found his direction in life and now was a man compared to the skinny young man he was back in the 80's. When the towers fell I was hoping I didn't know anyone in those towers. I didn't want to think anyone I knew would have gone through that horror. Unfortunately, Robert was the only one I knew that was lost that day and I have had in my prayers ever since. I only passed the “pit” one time in the past 10 or so years when the construction was taking place and really didn't want to go down there at all. But when it was announced that the 911 Memorial Museum was open to the public, I very much wanted to visit. I finally got there this past Sunday, (Sept. 28). I saw Robert's photo among the other thousands who were lost that day and it was so sad all over again. He was a credit to his family, to his firemen comrades, to his friends and to his love. He would have made a good husband and great father. I will remember him always.

I was lucky to have met you briefly on the steps of 250 Mercer St around the summer of 2000, when you guys were called there for something that turned out to be nothing. We chatted for about ten minutes outside, and you were funny, charming and cute. As you were leaving, you said I should stop by the firehouse to say hi one day. You asked for my card, but I was out of them. I don't know why I didn't, and even considered doing so over the next year more than once, but always saying to myself, 'not today, but someday,' but in waiting, I squandered the chance to meet again, and for that I truly regret. You seemed like a fantastical dynamic person, and my heart goes out to your family.

Hi I live in Tallaght, Dublin, in Ireland. Some time ago I found a memorial card for Robert on the path outside my house. Obviously he must have relatives or friends in this area. I would like to contact them to return the card card if possible. Can anybody help with this.

I work for Delta Airlines and spoke with his sister Jeanne today on a random call into our call center. We somehow got in a chat where the Fallen Firefighters organization were to be at Kentucky Speedway this weekend near my home and out of that she asked me to come here. She shared great stories of him and I instantly felt like I had known both of them forever. You were right, Jeanne....he is a looker!! Love and peace to you and your family. I will never forget the two of you and our nice chat today...we all will never forget..thank you Robert for all you did...

Rob,
Finally got to GZ with Jeanne and saw your name. It sounds odd but Jeanne and I had a great day together, your Mom couldn't make it. She took me around to show me the sights related to the attack and all of the heroes. What an awesome and emotional experience it was. So sad, such displays of heroism. The best and worst of humanity in one day. Saw the video of you at the 9/11 Memorial. As always, God Bless you and your family.

You seem to be such a brave person. At our school, in honor of the ten year anniversary of 9/11, we have let balloons go and have planted a garden, all to show how much we appreciate everything you and every other firefighter, police officer, and any other hero did on that day to ensure the safety of so many people.I wasn't old enough to remember that day, but I would still like to say thank you.

You sound like such an amazing person. I didn't know you, but I saw your turnout boots in Battery Park when I was visiting from Washington State. The sight of those boots and how they were displayed really touched me. I grew up with my Dad wearing those same boots. I cannot tell you how many discussions we have had in my office about what those boots represent. Everyone wants to know why I have a picture of boots. I can't think of a better picture for my office. My husband is a retired deputy sheriff. Thank you for your service.
May God Bless and keep you.

You are never forgotten and always in my thoughts and prayers. We have spent many special times growing up together that I will always cherish. I miss being able to call you, and get together and laugh our butts off! I named my son after you Bob… and he knows who you are and what you stand for. I love you and await the day I come to see you. The last time I saw you clearly you came to me in a dream and I said to you, does your mom know your ok? And you ran from me I chased you into an auditorium that was pitch dark, when I finally caught up with you, I said Bobby come with me, and you touched my hand and said with the warmest smile, Alex, I cant, and I don’t want to come back, I am so happy where I am it is so beautiful, and you ran off. ~Always remembered and never forgotten!"~
Greetings from
Firefighter poet Hartmut Reinsch
Toronto / CANADA
br>Tribute to Firefighters of FDNY!
In the battle against the beastly fire...
They stay together, ready to fight!
To help all the victims of every accident,
committed to rescue, by day and by night.
These are the courageous Firefighters,
In their cities and towns of every land.
They stand together as really true friends,
Routinely they're all working hand in hand.
Everyone of them looks after the other,
Their brotherhood knows no borders...!
They are ready to help in their unselfish way,
Without fear, they follow their orders!
Many of them gave their lives in New York,
On September the eleventh, two thousand and one...!
Firefighters everywhere will remember that day,
And their feelings of loss will never be gone.
Written by Hartmut Reinsch
(German-Canadian Goldsmith and Homeland Poet)
September 16, 2001 Toronto Canada
May we always remember their sacrifice,
in their quest to help and save the lives of innocent victims,
on that tragic day of Sept. 11. 2001 in New York City, USA.
A word after..., from "ground zero!"
What we are left with,
surrounded by death and fear,
is our sense of loyalty and of duty...
which calls upon us
to place a shining beacon of hope in this world,
and to entrust the universal darkness
to the light of God.

I went to H.Frank Carey High school also, and hung out with bobby growing up. I can recall he loved to put scary fake cut marks on his nose like it was Holoween. We where a tight group. Bobby, myself, mike, bobby b, kevin b, would love to drive the turnpike looking at old hot rods. My hart goes out to the evens family, and bobby you always thought of others 1st. Hi Jeanie and Paul
I met you in New York in August 2004 during my around the world trip. I've just gotten home to Australia and I wanted to let you know that just as I promised, I showed Bobby the world. I took his picture with me to Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, London, Israel, Jordan and Thailand and I showed him everything. He slept in a hammock on a deserted Carribean beach, hiked the 4 day Inca Trail in Peru, saw Stomp in London's west-end, experienced the beauty of Jerusalem at sunset, partied hard on the beaches of Thailand and so much more. You guys are an inspiration and I will hold onto the pictures you gave me forever.
May you only ever experience joy in your life.

In 1983 I graduated from H. Frank Carey High School with Bobby Evans. I only recently found out he died on 9/11/01. Although I hadn't seen him since high school, I remembered him as one of the kids who I really liked. He was fun, friendly, and warm. I remembered him as a kid with longish scruffy hair and a bad teenage mustache, and when I dug out my old high school yearbook I saw he looked exactly as I remembered him, (except for the suit and tie.) He wasn't part of the 'cool' crowd, but he always had the biggest and happiest smile you ever saw. Somehow, (unlike me) being left outside the 'cool' crowd didn't get him down. I was surprised to learn he'd become a boxer when he was 21 because I remembered him as skinny, shorter than the other kids, and definitely a non-jock type- although he was fast and scrappy. Still, he wasn’t a tough muscle guy and was not aggresive and mean, so the idea of him punching guys out in the boxing ring somehow doesn’t fit my picture of him. Being a fireman does make sense to me though, because I remember him as liking other people and liking excitement. What I really remember most about him though, was how he was funny, and always had a big bright smile on his face everyday. Even though I’ve learned of his passing four years after the fact, I’m nevertheless profoundly saddened.

To the Evans Family. My sincere and heartfelt condolences. I didn't know Bobby very well. I was in his Graduating class. I found out about his loss at the 20 Year H.S. Reunion in Nov. 2003. I haven't seen him since graduation. It seemed he found a job that he loved. So many people look to Fire Fighters as a special kind of hero. Only special people can fill those shoes. Bobby, I wish I could have known you as a friend. I leave these words to your Family. You Really Don't Have To Know Somebody. To Care. God Bless. Peace Always, Keith Thompson.

Rob,
I've never met you personally...but I know you through the lovely stories your mother Christine and Jeanne has told me about you even before 911.
It is a complete shame that I never got to meet you personally. I really think that we would have been good friends...we are both completely nutz!!
Although you did not know me, I feel in my heart to keep your spirit alive...to spread around how much of a hero you are and a unselfish loving soul.
I know that God is cradling you in his hands like a gentle dove. For your actions on earth, proved you are a true loving spirit.

I remember the day when Rob told me he had pasted the FD test and was going to be a fireman.I was really glad for him cause he seemed very happy about it.With the kind of person he was,I knew he would be a great fireman.I moved to UT in Feb. of 2002.I still had alot of things in boxs till I found a house. The day we moved into our house, the first box we unpacked had pics inside.I took out a pic of my wife and I from one of the times our familys had Thanksgiving together, and when you look in the backround, you can see Rob as clear as day with that unforgetable smile. We will never forget him and the great person he was. All our love,Carlos/Heidi/Nicolas & Kaylee Patino
