Vincent Morello Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 19, 2001.
Vincent S. Morello, 34, of New York City, a firefighter with the New York Fire Department, was lost on September 11 in the World Trade Center. He came from a family of firefighters (His father, John, is a retired fire chief, his brother, Marc, is also a firefighter). He was married to Debi and father to Justin,7, and Paige, 5.

A memorial was held on November 2 in Middle Village. He was a wonderful friend and family man. In 2000, Vincent gave up a job for the FDNY as a mechanic, taking a 50 percent paycut, to fulfill his dream of riding the truck, instead of fixing it. He will be missed. One-Weekend Bachelor
One weekend every summer, the commissioner of the Male Bonding Association would lead eight buddies to the Hamptons — but what happened there remained a mystery. His rules: No guy could call his wife. No guy could mention his wife. If a wife asked what the husbands did, the guy had to reply, "I can't tell you."

Each year the rules became sillier, in direct proportion to the commissioner's happy descent into family life. Debi Morello, his wife, never worried about those weekends. That's because Vincent Morello, 34, a firefighter with Ladder Company 35 in Manhattan and the son of a retired battalion chief, would still surprise her throughout the year with flowers, candles and wine for no other reason than love.

And he kept everything around the house in fine order: he was great with his hands, especially when cooking holiday meals for the family. Funny thing, though: the first time he held his son, Justin, he was awkward and fumbling. He wanted so badly to be a good father that he never seemed to let go of the baby, now 8. By the time Paige, now 6, was born, Mr. Morello was more than ready. While Paige wrapped her father around her finger, the commissioner's Hamptons rules grew sillier still.

Hey Vinnie...
It´s been a very long time ago but I will always remember you playing basketball with us at Sacred Heart Elementary gym on Sunday evenings.
We would always talk and you always said how much you wanted to be a brother.
You were a fire dept mechanic in training under My friend Mike Mazzo.
I´ll always remember your three point shots. They were great!!!
I´ll continue to pray for you and your family for as long as I live along with all the rest of our brothers and PD and civilians who se lives were taken.
I´m certain Our Lord is your protector now!!
God Bless. Til we meet again.

God Bless you Vincent, I was just in 8th grade on 9/11. Today being 25 years old I have also lost my firefighter Dad and I am going to Indianapolis today for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation 9/11 Stair Step you are the Hero I chose to support today. I promise yours is a name and story I will hold with me forever. God bless you your Wife and Children.

December 23, 2012

My name is Summer. I was in 8th grade when I "met" Mr Vincent Morello. My homeroom teacher, who was from NY, decided that our entire school, 6th-8th grade, on the One year anniversary of 9/11 should dedicate a flag to all the fallen heros from that day. I was then assigned Mr Morello and dedicated my section and prayer to him and his family left behind. I am now 24 years old and still to this day carry his photo, the post-it with his name and Ladder number written on it along with a flag all together. I never physically met this man but I was and still am honored that I was chosen by his spirit. From all the articles and stories I have read, He was an amazing man. So to his family & friends, 11 years later He is NOT forgotten.

Love & Prayers Always,
Summer from VA

I had the honor to ride in your behalf on this years 911 America's ride. It was a very somber and sometimes overwhelming 3 days. It started in Shanksville, PA, went to the Pentagon, and then on into New York to Ground Zero. The America's 911 Foundation does this every year, so that you and all those lost that day will never be fogotten.

Hey Vin, As this day approaches every year I want you to know that you are missed, loved and repected to the highest degree. I'll never forget the times we had in Mc Clancy and years following high school. You were truly a great guy and even better friend. Every time I pass your street sign in the neighborhood I smile and remember the good times. Love ya pal!!!

Vincenzo, I was just thinking of you and all the laughs we had in high school. You need to know that the world knows you are a hero. I want you to know that I've seen your children over the years at my restaurant and you can be proud to know that they are very respectful and very good children. You can be very proud of them. Also me and your dad and mom have talked often and I consider them very good friends. You are missed by so many. Love ya pal!

To The Morello Family:

My husband, 2 sons & I just came back from our first trip to New York. In walking from our car to see the sights, we came across Ladder Co. 35 and we stopped and

read the plaques of the fallen firefighters from September 11th; our younger son chose Vincent's plaque to take a picture of. Our visit there as well as to Ground Zero flooded the memories of that day in my mind and all of the lives that were lost that shouldn't have been. I cried and I prayed. I came home and wanted so much to get to know a little bit about the person who's name was on that plaque and I learned that he was not only a dedicated husband & father, lighthearted friend but a man who gave up a safer job to persue his calling of riding on that truck and saving lives. Debi, you have every right to be so proud of the man your husband was and he lives on through your children. God Bless you all; thank you for letting me get to know what a good man Vincent was and of course, God Bless America.

I visited the guest book to become acquainted with who Mr. Morello was as I now wear a copper bracelet in memory of his loss of life and his heroic efforts to serve his country. I am saddened by the Morello family loss, and by all who were lost on Sept. 11, 2001. Thank you for sharing such personal information and for giving of your loved one.

Tears fill my eyes even a year later as I read all the wonderful sentiments written before me. It does not surprise me that Vin touched so many people's lives from all over the country. Vin was a great friend and wonderful "cousin" as many of us knew him to be. It was so clear that he loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved his family, Debi and the kids especially. You are all on my mind more than you can ever imagine. Vinny was special and he will never be forgotten. God Bless.

Hi my name is Aimee Barnhouse and I go to Mount Union College. We had a ceremony for the 9-11 attacks. We were asked to pick flags with victims names on them, and I picked Vincent's. I was very moved by his website, and very glad I visited it. This is a very emotional day for many, and now I feel I have contributed to this day. I'm very sorry for your loss, and I hope that in some way, I have helped with your tragedy.

How time fly's by so quickly. Its 9-10-02 just a few hours away from you being gone a year. I stop to think how unfair life is and why things happen the way they do but i have began to beleive that god has it all planned out and were all in that plan sometime. Its so unfair that you were in it long before your time. So young and so happy with a beautiful wife and 2 adorable children you proudly came home to after every shift at the house with the "boys". You now look down upon them and you are their guiding light and you must show them the way. For today, tomorrow and always we all think of you and shed a tear over the loss of you Vin. You are forever in my heart and mind !

GOD BLESS YOU & THE U.S.A

Our Father, who are in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, forever. Amen.

Morello family,

I proudly wear a bracelet with your husband and father's name on it. My children and I say a prayer for your family every night before bed as a tribute to all the families who have suffered loss because of this terrible act. I am a third generation firefighter who will never put on my turn-out gear again without thinking about Vincent and his family. May God bless you all.

In May, a group from the Oregon coast traveled to New York to visit their adopted firefighters of Engine 55. A young firefighter volunteer, Sonia, brought a bracelet bearing Vincent's name back to me. I wear it proudly every day and think of Vincent and all of the firefighters who died while trying to save others. It will be a daily reminder to me of 9/11. God bless and keep you, Debi, Justin and Paige. You have a special angel, your husband and father watching over you.

To the Morello Family:

I grew up with Marc and Vincent in Middle Village. I was a guest at your home in the Hamptons several times over the years. Although we all went our separate ways as we got older, I often ran into Marc around the neighborhood and kept up with all that was going on in the family. My sister was friends with Vincent growing up, and we were both so sad to learn that Vincent was lost on that terrible day. I lost several people in the WTC including my best friend. I cannot even imagine how deep your pain is, but please know Vincent will always be a hero to us. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

To the Morello Family

I was so excited to learn that they where going to release the bracelets with fallen firefighters names on them. My dad bought me a POW MIA braclet when I was younger and I have worn it for 17 years now. I just recently got the privilage to wear another HERO"S name on my wrist for hopefully the rest of my life. It was FF Vincent S. Morello from one firefighter to another rest in peace my brother.

I am sure you will be greatly missed. You did what you should've done in the call of duty. My love and tears goes out to the family of this fine man!

Debi, Justin and Paige:

I just wanted to write a little note saying just how much we will all miss Vinny. I hold many memories of him in my heart. I will always remember the good times. That bright smiling face. I will for the rest of my life hear his voice in my head. It was a voice of love and laughter for the people he adored. Justin and Paige, I will always remember the proudness that your daddy had when you guys were born. He was the best father, husband and friend anyone could ask for. I will always miss you Vinny. You surely were taken away from us too soon. You had so much love for life, it was just cut too short too soon. You will always be my hero. May God Bless you Debi, you are a wonderful person and very dedicated mother.

Vinnie,

I'll always remember the Summer of 79 playing on the Hampton Bays soccer team with you, the Sutton boys, the O'Keefe's, and my brother Patrick. Whether we won or lost, we always knew that, thanks to you, the ride to the game and back would be full of laughter.

I hadn't seen much of you in later life but always remembered the fun we had.

God bless you and your family.

Dear Vincent,

Your dedication is obvious, giving up your position of "mechanic" to become a "rider" of the massive firetrucks that carry the bravest of men in the world. I have a friend who repairs firetrucks in Seattle and he has the utmost respect for the men who "ride" the trucks!

God Bless you, Vincent and may God Bless the loved ones that have been left behind!

We thank Vincent, his father John, and his brother Marc for dedicating their lives to help others as firefighters. Such dedication comes with brave, warm and loving hearts. We are deeply sorry for your loss of Vincent. May his life and love live on through all those who love him. May you always feel the warmth of his love as it radiates into your hearts. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

I've been wearing a mercy band with Vincent's name on it for several weeks now, and I pray for peace and some semblance of comfort for his family and friends every day. I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I hope that knowing that people around the country are wearing these bands and praying for you brings you some small comfort. May God be with you always. Debbie

To the Family of Vincent Morello:

I bought a mercyband (bracelet with Vincent's name on it) at our church today. My granddaughter's, Catie, Carly and Dariane (also called Peanut) were singing for the church and for a special guest, Franklin Graham. They are officially the "Christmas Child Chorus" a pet project of Franklin Graham"s that provides gift boxes for children all over the world, who are not as fortunate as many of our children. They will be heading out on the biggest plane in the world, the one the former Russia built to carry their space shuttlte. The plane will be making it's maiden voyage to the United States in a short time and taking millions of gifts to 90 countries around the world.

It is with this same humble, but very deep love that our little family sends our love and prayers to your dear family. And to the loving memory of Vincent Morello. May he rest in peace by God's side, and may all of you know peace, serenity, healing and love.
