Today, in the early hours of the 23th anniversary of 9/11, I did this beautiful portrait of late officer Donald J. McIntyre. I found out that he was the only McIntyre to perish on the attacks. Me & Donald have the same last name. I'm, also, an artist living with autism.

I grew up with Donald. My mom use to make him lunch at the Dyckman Street deli. Donald was like my big brother. When the fleet would be in, my sister and I use to say he was our brother and get in without staying on line. I will always miss him and remember the times he use to make me laugh. He was one of those gentlemen that would help everyone including older people across the street. He had a heart of gold. God Bless you and Keep you in Heaven!

Donald James McIntyre was a great man. Not only did he spend his life and his career in service to people, he was known amongst his neighbors and his friends as someone who would always be willing to lend a helping hand. In these hard times of remembrences, let us try to keep in mind that we haven't lost another great soul, but rather we have gained an AMAZING angel. My thoughts and prayers are with all the McIntyres, especially Jeannine and her three wonderful children. Stay Strong.

Jeannine,
I try hard not to think about the reality of September 11. Somedays a memory of you or Mack just sneaks up on me and there are tears. Not knowing what to do or how to fix this mess is very difficult for me. I think of Mackey whenever we use the blender, the way he did everything and made it look so easy and the way he looked at you. I only pray that you are the strong person I believe you are. God gives heavy loads to those with big shoulders. You will get through this and you will be a wonderful role model for your 3 beautiful children. You are always in my thoughts and prayers.

I knew Donald through my husband Kam, who grew up with him, they played hockey together. I ran into him at the St Patricks Day parades in NYC with my Cousin Ray Murray (PAPD). I am on the Nassau Police Dept. Donald's Mass card is in the pocket of my vest. I know that he is looking over me in some way and keeping me safe. You and your family are in my prayers.

At a 9/11 Memorial Service in Tacoma, WA on Sept. 11, 2002, I selected a card with the name of Donald James McIntyre. I have prayed for him and his family ever since. Today, I found his photo and stories about him on the Web, so he is even more real to me now. Please know that there are millions of Americans just like me praying for you.
As a message of hope, I have committed to volunteer work in the months ahead in honor of this man.

To the family of Officer Donald McIntyre,
I did not know Donald, but I recently learned of your loss during a memorial service in Phoenix, Arizona. I am a Detective with the Mesa Police Department (AZ) and was participating in a climb to commemmorate the heroes of 9/11. All of the participants were assigned one hero whom the climb would be dedicated to. I am honored to say that I completed the climb in Donald's memory.
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. I will be thinking of Donald when I visit Ground Zero this coming week.
Sincerely,
Detective Domenick Kaufman

Dear Jeannine, I cannot explain to you how sorry my family and I are for your awful loss. When I, Linda, Jordanna, Amber, and Jeanmarie were down there in 2000 we had a great time with you, Donald and your children. For the very brief time he and I spoke I soon realized he was a wonderful father and a loving husband. Our heart goes out to you and your family. We are thinking about you today and always. Love always and may God bless you. Dale, Linda, Jordanna and Amber

I can't even imagine how it would feel to lose such an important figure in my life like that. I sympathize with your family, especially your wife and children; they are heros for their courage and strength just like you. God Bless

Donald James McIntyre sounds like the kind of person I would like to have known .... and known, would have liked. My highest wish for his family is that they will persevere, with the sure and certain knowledge and comfort of the motto of the Clan MacIntyre: PER ARDUA .... through difficulty.

We thank Donald for dedicating his life to protecting others as a police officer. Such devotion come with a warm and caring heart. We are very sorry for your loss of Donald. Our hearts cry with you.
America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
