Striving for the Best
William A. Nelson remembers his wife, Ginger Risco Nelson, as someone who always strove to be the best and never did anything casually. They met on a bicycling trip in the Napa Valley of California, when she joined him and his friends because they always opted for longer routes over shorter ones.

A senior vice president and senior analyst at Fred Alger Management, Ms. Risco Nelson, 48, covered retailing stocks like Nike and Home Depot. The job allowed her to combine a love for design with her hunger for always knowing more. "When someone made a statement, she instantly had 10 questions," Dr. Nelson said. Evenings, she stretched out on their bed surrounded by reports about the companies she followed while he made dinner.

Although they had been married almost 10 years, they still did many things together, from buying photographs for their growing collection (she liked black-and-white abstracts) to running the New York City Marathon (they had planned to run it again next year) to shopping for her designer clothes (he would go into the dressing rooms with her and she often consulted him about what she wore).

When he filed a missing person report, he was able to describe her in detail: A redhead, very lean, about 110 pounds, wearing a black pinstriped Gucci suit with tapered pants and a white cotton blouse with a spread collar. He even knew the color and make of her underwear. "Their mouths were open," Dr. Nelson said.

Today, 9-11, I was thinking about Ginger and found this site. I met Ginger on a biking trip to Napa around 1989 or 90. With my group was a great guy, Dr. William Nelson. They met on this bike trip and ended up getting married. I really feel that I was part of their meeting and falling in love. I'm happy that she and Bill had some years together. Ginger was smart, fun and active. We so enjoyed knowing her and she is missed.

I knew Ginger professionally and enjoyed her spirit and drive. She always asked the hard questions and was by far one of my favorite clients. I remember the sparkle in her eyes when she told me of her marriage to Bill. They were a beautiful couple and I pray for both of them every day. May God bring peace into his heart and that of her whole family.

I knew Ginger some years back when we were hippies together. She was with Ronnie Risco who was one of my best friends. We all came to California together and stayed in Berkeley.
Ginger was an amazing person! She had a great sense of humor and a beautiful spirit. I will miss her and my thoughts and prayers are with her family.
God Bless!

Ginger and I worked together at Pasta and Cheese. We were also roommates for a short time and good friends. She was a beautiful, smart and funny woman. I am so sad to know she perished in the 9/11 attacks. I know she was loved and is missed by many

Ginger was a terrific colleague who's humor and insights are sorely missed. The world lost a dynamic woman. I watched the tributes today to listen and see her name as often as possible.

Our family just returned from our cities 10 year rememberance ceremony. After the ceremony we were invited to take home a flag from the field of flags remembering each person who died this day, ten years ago. Each flag had a persons name and we picked Theresa's. She sounds like a wonderful women who loved life. It is good for my daughters to connect faces to this event so they understand how real it was. Our prayers our with your family.

I have fond memories of Ginger from a Columbia University course in Renaissance Painting and Sculpture given in Florence in the summer of 1979. It is a shock to find out she died in the 9/11 attacks. She was a clearheaded, somewhat reserved person, always interested in new ideas, always a pleasure to have a discussion with. Our life is diminished by her departure. It reminds us: carpe diem!

I am overjoyed to have found this tribute to Ginger, who was a wonderful colleague and client. I miss her curious nature, her intelligent design, and her witty repartee. I think of Ginger and Sara frequently, and my heart is especially heavy during this season. I extend my sincere condelences to her family and friends.

Ginger was a good friend for several years as we were in the same beach house. she was a great friend to jog with, share wall street stuff with and just an overall terrific person. She leaves a big hole in many many hearts.

I had the honour of being one of many bloggers who paid tribute to the victims of the 9/11 atrocities.

I was highly priviledged to pay tribute to Ginger. I felt like the luckiest blogger there was. What a truly amazing woman.

Learning just that little bit about her, and being able to share what I had learnt, is something I will always hold dear.

My thoughts will always be with Ginger and her family.

Ginger was one of those really special people that you never forget. She was lovely, smart, funny and someone you instantly wanted to have as a friend. It was a joy to see her and Bill come together with such happiness. I will always mourn her loss and will think of her often.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
