A Guide to Living Out Loud
Some people live life out loud. Christopher Mozzillo lived life out louder.

How to Stop Your Mom and Sister From Fighting at the Dinner Table: Take a fork, pretend to ram it in your forehead and shout, "You're driving me nuts!" Or bang your head against the wall, whimpering, "Help me, help me!"

How to Get Your Girlfriend out of the Ocean for Lunch: Roll her, soaking wet, up the sand, laughing as you yell, "Chicken cutlet here!" (Escort her to the showers, please.)

Cook only masterpieces. Ski only black diamond trails. Drink till someone else passes out first. Be president of your fraternity at St. John's, a king of the bar scene at the Jersey Shore, the best at trivia because you have a photographic memory.

Take the firefighter's exam at 18 and wait impatiently all those years, working as an environmental scientist, until you are called — finally! — at 25. Be so upbeat that, at 27, you think you know what the future holds: husband, father, upstate homeowner, lieutenant, captain, chief.

Love being in the fraternity known as Engine Company 55 in Manhattan's Little Italy so much that you come home to Staten Island boasting, "Today the captain let me hold the knob of the hose!"

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Dear Pam,
Thank you for responding to the message about Chris and your willingness to help him with his project. I truly can't imagine what your family went through that day. Ben wasn't born yet, but I watched in horror on TV in my classroom. Ben found a documentary on YouTube and we watched that prior to his project. What is the best way for us to contact you about your brother? Would you rather Ben email you or talk to you on the phone? I would be happy to give you my number or he can call you. We are in Georgia. I am sure Ben will be very excited to hear from his chosen hero's family, as am I. You are the first family member of any September 11 victim we have had direct contact with. My heart goes out to you. The email I received from you went through Legacy. Feel free to contact me directly at [email protected]. I'll send you my phone number then, too. Again, thank you.

I still wear the shirt with your name on it, purchased from Engine 55 shortly after 9/11. Recently we returned to NY to view the 9/11 memorial. I immediately went to the area for Engine 55. Even though we had never meet & I do not know your family I want them to know that you are not forgotten even by complete strangers! I think of you often & read little bits of what you were like. Very loved & very missed. With pride I will continue to wear your name.

Chris,

I find it so hard to believe that it will be 10 years tomorrow that this tragedy has happened. I have been so blessed to become such a close part of your family's lives & to spend so much quality time with your beautiful nieces. They are both so amazing & bring so much happiness to everyone. I wish you were here to see them at our wedding as our flower girls, although I know you were looking down from above. Can you beleive "the lil one" is married? You always told me to stay away from those "juice head guidos"..and I listened!!! You always had the best sense of humor. Please continue to give your family the strength they need during these hard times. You are a true hero and truly missed.
Until we meet again...

Ten years ago I bought a bracelet that has your name on it. I still wear it. When I look at it I think of you and how brave you were. I think of your family and friends and how they must miss you every day. In this information age I've been able to go online and learn about who you were and the very full life you lived. You weren't much older than I was 10 years ago. I think of how much my life has changed since then and I am sad that you should have had so much more life ahead of you.
I promise to always keep you and your loved ones in my thoughts not just this day or this year, but for the rest of my life.
Thank you.

As another ski season aproaches I always remember the day you and i hanging out in the ski shop planning the big trip up north setting the date mapping out first Maine then back to VT 12 days was awesome The morning i picked you up i couldnt get out of Staten Island fast enough and here you come big bag skiis snow blades and playstation .. Music enough for the 9 hour drive Maine .We had great conversations admiring the scenery and just laughing about stupid stuff .. Stoping off in Conn for some eats as you called it and finding our mascot for the trip Kenny The Carrot ( a dog toy in the parking lot ) put him ontop of my jeep in the ski rack and away we went ...But most of all one night sitting in the bar in the hotel putting a few back .. But you said one thing that makes it easy for me to know you are where you want to be .. as we taosted the FD I wished you luck getting hired and you siad Mike if i die a firefighter i will die HAPPY.. That i will never forget . You are missed ..And I will see you on the Mountain ...

I read your book to Capri tonight at bedtime. She said, "I miss my Uncle Chris" because she saw me crying. Then, when I asked her what she wanted to say to you, she said, "Welcome home". I know you're her angel, but we just miss you so damn much. Nine years feels like nine days-it never gets any easier. Love & miss you SO much, big brother.

We again come to the date, the tears, the heartbreak. Mostly, we come with thanks for the sacrifices made to protect our freedoms, and for the many lives that were saved that day.
That is what Christopher was about, selfless and caring.
From my family to yours, thoughts prayers and love surround all of you.

Chris,
Its been 8 yrs since you were taken from us and it was way too early. You were doing what you were meant to do, and that was saving lives in the middle of the sh*t. I miss ya everyday and think about how you impacted my life.

I always think about the time you had me come over to kill the keg and days later tell me it was from my own backyard.

You are a true friend.

Burg.

Amazingly enough he was with the 55th...I went to the 55th fire academy in Orange County for the Laguna Beach Fire Department and my b-day is 5-5-55. God Bless all the Fire Department victims and all the victims of 9-11. They certainly are ALL up in that big firehouse in Heaven.

Mozzillo Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with your family on the eve of the 5th year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Cassella's Deli here in Scottsdale was selling Memorial Identification Tags of Fallen Firefighters from 9/11. I received your son's/brother's I.D. Tag. I have read all about Christopher and what an amazing young man. Be very proud of him. I never knew him but wish the world was full of more men with the depth of his dynamic nature and true caring heart.

I wish that painful day could be taken away for so many innocent people and families such as yourselves.

As an active flight attendant on 9/11 for United Airlines those attacks resonate very deep & painful. I just wanted to express my sincere sorrow for your loss and will wear your son's/brother's ID tag very proudly.

God Bless & Never forget,

September 9, 2006

The one thing I remember the most, of all the horrible memories I have of 9/11, is turning to my husband, and saying, " I hope no one I knew was in there ". And after the names were released, the name that hurt the most to see there, was yours. I have many memories of you, and all of them, are wonderful. You were my friend, even when no one else wanted to be, and for that, you will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for your heroism on that day, for running in, when every one else was running out...No one, will ever be braver in my mind than you.

Today is the second year anniversary after 9/11. Everyday of every 9/11 I'll always remember the brave people who tried their best to protect us; the Americans. Today is the chinese moon festival and I'm not that happy to celebrate it while today is the exact day three years ago where many men have died. All the men shall be remembered and especially Christopher Mozzillo, my former english teacher's brother, Ms Mozzillo. My memories will always follow me even though I'm in high school. May you rest in peace Christopher Mozzillo.

Sincerely,

Chris,

Well there is not much i knew about you only what your sister and my former homeroom/English teacher has told me. She loved you very much and always had your picture in our class room. When it came to something she took very seriously it was firedrills. One time when my class got out of hand she became very upset with us. When we returned to our class room she explained to us how she felt and said that because of you saving and taking lives of other people into your hands she took our lives into her hands and felt that we were completely her responsibility. I remember her face that day as the thought of you brought tears not only to her eyes but to mine and a few other students in the class. You were a very repsected man and i look up to you for that. Even though i didnt know you very well your in my heart and my heart goes out to your family and friends on this second anniversery of September 11th...

I thank you and Ms.Mozzillo for all the insperation

Hello Chris!

I just wanted to say hello and congratulate you on your sister's wedding. It was a great night. Pam looked beautiful, Joe gave a great speech, and all your family and friends were there along with your new family.

It was a very memorable and joyous occasion, although I'm sure you were looking over it all as well. It was wonderful to see how happy everyone was for Pam and Steve.

You were missed by everyone, but we all felt your presence.

Thinking of you.

I don't know about what they say about it getting easier, but time does go by. And as time goes by, Chris, you are missed. Things you should be part of, a big part of, come and go. And while you do make your presence known, it still hurts. Hope you are looking out for us as much as we are looking for you. Much love.....
