Linda Young Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 22, 2024.
On May 12, 2024, our family and the world suffered a profound loss as heaven received its greatest Mother's Day gift. Linda Jean (Burquist) Young of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away at the age of 77. She was born December 4, 1946, in Chicago, IL, one of four children.

A beautiful, vibrant person, always full of life and positivity, Linda's love for her family and friends was unparalleled. She will be deeply missed by so many. Linda cherished her role as mother and grandmother, dedicating her life to family. She took everyone in as her own and never missed an opportunity to gather her loved ones. Knowing her children were content and following their dreams was all she needed for peace of mind.

She and her late husband, Tom Young, raised their three children, Tommy, Laura, and Billy, in Bolingbrook, IL. Linda spent many years working at Bolingbrook High School. She then moved to Sister Lakes, MI, where she and her sister Cara enjoyed the lake life together. Linda established firm roots in Michigan, working and making good friends. In 2013, Linda moved to Grand Rapids with her life partner, Bob, where she continued her love of gardening and DIY home projects.

Most important to Linda was that her friends and family were happy. She loved holidays, decorating, and any reason for celebration. Though she often joked that cooking was not her favorite activity, she had a few special dishes everyone looked forward to. In her golden years, Linda traveled the world, exploring Europe with her sister Cara and taking many trips through North America with her partner Bob.

She viewed the world with an open mind and embraced life with a boundless heart. To know Linda was to love her. Her smile always shone bright, even in the bleakest of times. She taught all of us what it means to be generous, accepting, selfless, and kind. Her impact on our lives is immeasurable. Because of her, we are all better versions of ourselves. Her loving spirit will live on in the many lives she touched and the beautiful family she raised.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Madelyn and Norman Burquist, her brother, Robert Burquist, and her husband, Thomas Young. She is survived by her partner, Robert Netzel; brother, Ralph Burquist; sister, Cara Knippel; her children, Thomas Young (Kristina), Laura Young Gould (David), and William Young (Shannon); several nieces and nephews, and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We are deeply grateful for your love and support during this difficult time. The family invites you to honor Linda's memory by posting your favorite memories or photos here.

Dear Seester....there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of you...often with a grin or a giggle but more often with a tear in my eye. Leann has joined the Burquist crew up there this last month, I'm sure she is busy as usual looking after our Bro. It is coming up on a year soon since you joined our boys...please be sure to save your little sister a seat as you always did by the lake. I miss you more than I can put into words.

To My Seester's beautiful family. Although I feel her presence every day in my life, this time of year is close to unbearable for me. We shared so many years of memories, but our 70+ years of Christmas's I will hold in my heart until I join her. My love to all.

I enjoyed several trips with Linda and her sister, Cara. We talked, laughed, shopped, enjoyed the sights and enjoyed each other´s company. Those memories will be with me forever

Linda and I were lucky enough to find each other nearly 15 years ago. It has been a fantastic and happy life for us both to have found love again. While my heart is broken and I miss her terribly, I am forever grateful for the time we had together. She is always in my heart.

Unfortunately, Janet and I will not be able to attend the celebration of Linda's life. I have many fond ASABE memories of Linda's fun, upbeat personality and outlook on life. Our thoughts are certainly with you and your family. Mark

Linda was a precious friend to us. We will miss her infectious smile, her genuine laughter, and her forever friendship. We were always so excited to drive to Michigan knowing she was there and that we would see her on Park Street in Sister Lakes. She always welcomed us so warmly and included our family with her own. Now, we will carry her in our hearts until we meet again.
With love, Greg and Michele Domel

My grandma always gave the best advice. Her combined experience, intelligence, and loving nature made her the perfect person to talk too. She has inspired me countless times. She will forever be loved and missed.

From the first time I met Linda, she treated me like a daughter. I remember visiting Sister Lakes, and after just 5 minutes of talking, she complimented my dress, hugged me, and said how happy she was that Billy and I had met. Since that day, we only grew closer, sharing our love of holidays and DIY projects. I learned so much from her. She was always full of life and greeted the world with kindness and open arms. I am grateful to have had her in my life for the time I did. I will forever cherish the years I got to know a mom's love again.
