Arturo Garcia Obituary

Fayette, IA - Arturo "Art" Garcia Jr. passed away at the age of 61 from pneumonia.

He graduated from Mission High School in 1977. He attended TSTI in Harlingen and became an auto mechanic. He joined the U. S. Army in 1981 and was assigned to the 66th Military Intelligence unit to repair cryptographic machines. He was stationed in Munich, Germany where he met Janette Foss; they were married in 1990. He retired as a Sergeant E5. They returned to Mission, TX in 1993. He earned a Bachelor's of Nursing from the University of Texas-Pan American. He worked as an RN in LRGV hospitals in the Operating Room, Critical Care, and his favorite place, the Emergency Room, ending his career at the McAllen VA Clinic. He retired early in 2015 when he showed symptoms of Alzheimer's.

Art was preceded in death by his father, Arturo Garcia (Sr.).

He is survived by his wife, Janette, his son, John (Fayette, Iowa), his daughter, Fiona, son-in-law, Nestor Ugarte, his mother, Olivia, sister Norma, (Mission, Texas) and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Arturo Garcia Jr. to the Alzheimer's Association or the UTRGV School of Nursing.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Funeraria Del Angel in Mission from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Funeraria Del Angel at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission.
