Otto Keegan Obituary

Otto C. Keegan Jr.
It is with deep sadness that the family of Mr. Otto C. Keegan Jr. 87 announces his passing on November 30, 2020 in Rifle, CO.
The son of Otto and Mary Keegan, he was born May 21, 1933 at Bridgeport, CT Hospital. His father, Otto Sr. (Doc), was a retired firefighter and Headquarters dispatcher with the Milford Fire Department. Growing up in Devon, CT, he attended Devon Grammar School and graduated from Milford H.S. in 1951. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as an avionics technician on B-47 bombers assigned to Strategic Air Command at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL.
After his military service, he returned to Milford, CT taking classes at the University of Bridgeport and eventually went to work at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT in 1956. Starting on the assembly line "bucking rivets", he worked his way up to avionics tech/electrician and had a front row seat to many of the company's developmental project aircraft over several decades, including the U.S. Army Blackhawk (UH-60), while assigned to the company's then "experimental hangar". He retired in 1998 after 42 years and remained a member of the union retirees club, serving as treasurer for several years.
He married Irene Ann McMahon, also a graduate of Milford H.S., after returning from the Air Force. They resided in Devon, CT their entire lives and had three children and one grandchild. He was a lifelong parishioner, altar boy, usher, and member of the choir at St. Ann's Catholic Church of Devon and St. Gabriel's (where they were married). Charlie had a deep sense of devotion to family, faith, and personal duty. He loved to travel and, together with Ann, spent 25 years roaming the roads with their travel trailer; visiting family, exploring, and later, attending Air Force reunions around the country. He was also a member of The American Legion.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife Ann of 64 years and three children Irene, Maureen, and Michael, who all followed in his footsteps and served in the military. He is also survived by his brothers Francis and Jim (Maria) Keegan, and sister, Mary (John) Herbert, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Otto Sr. and Mary, and grandson Ian Gallagher.

I flew many of the helicopters that Otto helped to build, as we worked together out of the experimental hanger at Sikorsky. He was hard-working, intelligent, and always had a good thing to say about the folks he worked with. His smile could light up any group he was in. We will miss him, RIP Otto.
