Mrs. Wanda Layne Brewer

Mrs. Wanda Layne Brewer, age 91, of Highview, returned to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. She passed away peacefully at home with family by her side. Mrs. Brewer was born in Fountain Run, KY on October 4, 1924, she was one of five children born to the late Voss and Cecil Carter. After completing the 8th grade, Wanda moved to Louisville and attended the Louisville College of Beauty Culture and received her license in 1945. She loved her lifelong profession as a beautician, which gave her the opportunity to meet many new people. Wanda never met a stranger and loved helping others. On April 27, 1946 she married Barney Brewer and to this union was born a daughter, Wanda Ruth and a son, Danny Brooks. Wanda was saved in her early twenties in a revival at Lyons Missionary Baptist Church; she later joined Lone Hill United Baptist Church. Wanda made family and church her life to which she truly enjoyed. She was also instrumental in helping several find salvation. Wanda Layne is survived by her daughter, Wanda and her husband, Rev. Wayne Tomes of Louisville; son, Danny Brewer and his wife Donna of Cox's Creek; seven grandchildren and their spouses; fifteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Among those who precede her in death include, her parents, husband and brother. She will live on in the hearts of all that knew her by her warm smile and kind words. Our sincere loss is Heaven's gain. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Lone Hill United Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Lone Hill United Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Greg Scott will be officiating the service. Friends and family may pay their respects from 12:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) and on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service at the church.
